|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
The yurt is situated on a hillside overlooking the gloriously huge Flathead Lake in Somers, MT. Somers is located on the north end of the lake, next to the open space on the North Shore of the National Wildlife Refuge.
Yurt living is not for everyone but if you enjoy luxury camping in a beautiful setting, this is the place to stay.
The lake is beautiful year around. Mysterious in winter, chilly and aloof in spring, colorful in the fall and irresistible in the summer. Bring your own canoe or kayak for paddling around the lake. The yurt is perfect for relaxing in before and after enjoying the many seasonal activities of your choice.
Breakfast is included. In the yurt is a small refrigerator to hold your beverages and snacks and a electric kettle for making coffee or tea. Other meals can be had at the numerous nearby restaurants in Somers, Lakeside, Bigfork and Kalispell.
The yurt is not handicapped accessible nor suitable for toddlers due to the steps leading up to the yurt and steep hillside. No smoking or open flames inside the yurt. There is a composting toilet inside yurt. Showers provided in the main house. Picnic table and fire pit at the waters edge, wood provided. Dock and lake front is shared with property owner and resident dogs.
I had a beautiful hillside above my home overlooking the lake and decided I wanted to put a yurt on the property to add sleeping area for my family and guests.
Besides the magnificent views of Flathead Lake year-around, you will be treated to the sight and sound of the resident eagles, swans, geese and the daily changes of the lake. Mysterious in winter, chilly and aloof in the spring, rich in color in the fall and irresistible in the summer.
Thanks you so much for sharing your yurt, beautiful views and wonderful meals with us. We really enjoyed the serenity of area and the views of the fireworks all around, were amazing. What a special stay we will always remember.
We spent 2 nights at the yurt as part of a week in Montana. It was definitely a highlight of our trip. The yurt is beautifully decorated with incredible attention to detail. We loved enjoying coffee on the porch with incredible views of the lake and birds, including eagles and ospreys, all around us. I can't speak highly enough about the gourmet breakfasts Michele prepared- delicious, creative and beautifully presented. We also loved kayaking on the lake and the view from the pier. All in all, it was a wonderful, beautiful and relaxing visit and we highly recommend that everyone stay here if they have the chance.
My husband and I choose the yurt as a place to spend our "rest day" during our 700 mile bicycle tour from Spokane to Great Falls via Glacier Nat'l Park. I am so glad we did. It was wonderful.
We arrived hot, hungry and tired. Michele took care of everything. First a cool dip in Flathead Lake off the private dock, then a wonderful shower followed by the best dinner ever - (all home made, fresh, organic and oh so yummy). The next day we were served the best breakfast ever - with fresh eggs from the cool chickens.
Michele helped us get our bikes back in working order by taking us to Whitefish Cyclery. The rest of the day we enjoyed cruising around Somers and swimming in the lake. That evening, sitting on the deck of the yurt, watching the bald eagle, Michele make us another best dinner ever. Wow! So good.
After another best breakfast ever, we were ready for our 100 mile day that would include Going to the Sun Road in Glacier (This was a spectacular ride - water falls, views, big horn sheep and lot of climbing).
We completely enjoyed our stay at the Yurt and left relaxed, refreshed and refueled
We were looking for something different to do and this was perfect. We were so comfortable in the yurt. It was warm and cozy and the coffee, tea, fresh cream and bottled water were great. Both breakfasts we had were wonderful and we loved visiting with Michele. We went cross country skiing just a few miles away. We hope to stay again next winter. Thanks for such a neat experience.
The Yurt was a perfect adventure. We were traveling with our children 15 and 20. We woke each morning to beautiful views of the lake and enjoyed our coffee and tea on the deck. Michele provided amazing gourmet breakfasts. We explored Glacier National Park and spent an afternoon on Flathead Lake. After a long Glacier hike, the delight each evening was the unique shower--we would love to have one in our own home. It is a beautiful relaxing place. Thank you Michele for making sure our stay was exceptional.
What a find! We were so excited to find such a unique and affordable place on such short notice. What a perfect way to bring in the New Year! Despite the single-digit temps outside, we stayed toasty in the yurt. There is so much to do in the area. Ziggy participated in the Polar Bear Plunge and we visited a brewery and a distillery in Bigfork and explored the surrounding towns. We had some amazing meals at the Tamarack Brewery right down the road and The Montana Club in Kalispell. And Del's just a few blocks away had great pizza! Michele was so kind and accomodating even when our car broke down and we had to stay an extra night that we hadn't reserved. She even drove us to the shop in Kalispell we had the car towed. She fed us amazing home-cooked breakfasts and her shower is pretty much the coolest thing ever! This was our first yurt experience and we can't wait for more. We've told several people already and would recommend this cozy retreat to anyone who is adventurous enough to use a compost toilet. :) We hope to come back in the summer. (Sorry for the late review.)
Though there were no previous reviews from anyone who had stayed in the yurt during the winter, we took a risk - and that risk paid off! Our yurt adventure was absolutely lovely. Serene, clean, and cozy accommodations greeted us in the midst of the snow, and Michele served fantastic home-cooked breakfasts as well as a unique and tasty Asian dinner. We took a walk down the highway for lunch to Buns on the Lake for the hugest veggie burger I've ever seen, a Greek egg scramble & a fabulous locally-brewed beer (from Tamarack Brewery not far away in Lakeside, where we went for pizza--and more great brews--another night). I definitely recommend a stay in the Somers Yurt to anyone looking for an out-of-the-ordinary vacation.
