The Scallop is a beautifully furnished 3-bedroom cottage on Smith Point, at the western tip of Nantucket. Smith Point is prized for its tranquility, easy access to the water and amazing sunsets. The cottage is located on Hither Creek, a salt water inlet. It is about 300 feet from a beautiful surf beach and about three blocks from the calm Madaket Harbor beach.
The living room has a beautiful ocean view and opens onto a second-story deck with the same great view. Outside, on ground level, overlooking Hither Creek, there is a patio with a teak table and chairs and a deck with outdoor chairs. The cottage also features a nice large flat lawn and an outdoor shower.
The cottage is within walking distance of a casual restaurant and convenience store and a stop for the shuttle bus to town.
Nantucket offers world-class dining, shopping, golf, fishing and outdoor adventures. For kids, the island offers great day camps, sports lessons and other activities. You will love it!

We bought The Scallop in 2004, after selling a cottage in Surfside, on the south shore of the island. We have two young boys who love their visits to the cottage and the chance to explore the island.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2004
We chose the location due to its wonderful access to beaches and boating opportunities, as well as lack of traffic (both car and air traffic). Crossing over the bridge to Smith Point is like taking a step back in time. We find it incredibly relaxing.
The cottage offers easy, quick access to both the surf beach and the harbor beach. You can go downtown and explore the shops and restaurants, or just stay out in our peaceful part of the island. Nantucket also offers a great network of bike trails and a great shuttle bus system, including a stop near the cottage.
My favorite place to stay. It has a wonderful beachy feel, colors are great, views are phenomenal. . . . I love Madaket and would not consider staying anywhere else.
I rented "The Scallop" for family that was visiting for a long weekend this October and I can't say enough good things about our experience! The cottage was a perfect fit for a family of six, small enough to feel intimate yet large enough to not be cramped. The cottage's location is near perfect within yards of Madaket beach, views of Millie's bridge and the harbor, and short walking distance to Smith's Point and Jackson Point. In October Madaket's only restaurant, Millie's, is closed, but the house is equipped with everything you might need for cooking at home. There is even a rake and basket if you'd like to try your hand a scalloping in Madaket Harbor, which we did and loved(with a shellfish permit from the Town of course). Another huge perk are the modern accessories provided for your use. The kids were thrilled to find a Google Chromecast and a bluetooth sound system. The sound system makes it easy to stream music from your phone without having to plug in and the Chromecast allows you to stream video, Netflix or HBOgo, from your phone or laptop. Having lived on Nantucket for awhile now, I've come to find myself loving the serenity of Madaket over the other areas of the island. If you're looking for the same, this rental is right for you.
My family of four stayed at his beach house this summer and it was great. The top floor is completely open with a living, dinning and kitchen areas that look out at the ocean. Plus there is a walk-out deck. The three bedrooms work well on the ground floor. Easy walk to the beach with the wagon and beach chairs and toys that are available. Would recommend this property. Great ocean and sunset views! The house is in a quiet setting and has all the necessary amenities for a great beach vacation. Having stayed in town for many trips to Nantucket, the serenity of 'The Scallop' was a welcome change In addition to being close to beach, the house is a short walk to the shuttle bus and bike trails for trips around the island. Property was clean, well maintained and the owners were very helpful and quick to respond to questions. Our group loved it so much we are already looking forward to next year.
