I've enjoyed a diversified life with careers in Environmental Science, entertainment, real estate and design. I live in New York but grew up in Canada and Bermuda, two wildly different climes! When it comes to property I tend to prefer the extremes....extreme country, or extreme city, and that's one of the things I love about Woodstock. It's less than two hours from New York City, but it's a million miles away with respect to it's ambiance, culture and attitude. Woodstock is a fabulous combination of getting away from it all while still having plenty to do.
Christine Barker purchased this cabin in 2002
Serenity and Privacy. Secluded yet not isolated. Just perfect! It has so many unique features, which include a claw foot tub located in front of the gas burning stove. Take a soak whilst enjoying beautiful wooded scenery. A spacious bedroom with writing desk (and even a typewriter if you want to feel inspired). An outdoor desk with grill and plenty of room to just relax.
Hike the amazing Overlook Mountain just up the road! Visit or hike up to the world-renowned largest traditional Tibetan Monastery in the US built into the mountainside.
Take a bike ride along the winding creeks and back roads, or explore the colorful local farmers and flea market in the center of town.
Find the numerous swimming holes around the area. This really is a year round escape, enjoy the wonderful fall foliage and enjoy skiing in the winter months.
We had a great time at the cabin. It's well-located, peaceful, very spacious, nicely decorated, clean and has great outdoor space. There is a modern kitchen, bathroom and fireplace. The owners were very helpful and provided good recommendations of outdoor activities and restaurants in town. Our dog also loved it. Highly recommended. Thanks for everything!
The two of us decided last minute to book this cabin for one night. The owner was awesome in responding promptly and getting us booked within a few hours.
The cabin itself is very comfortable and had everything we needed for a night. There is even an electric grill outside if you wanted to use it. Woodstock is within walking distance but for the winter I would say just make the drive. It's probably too cold to be making the 20-25 minute walk now.
There were houses close by so although you had the feeling of seclusion, you were not completely alone in the woods. This was nice because when we woke up the next morning we found out that it had snowed. However a friendly neighbor had plowed the driveway for us so we had no trouble getting out.
Overall, a very peaceful, and beautiful cabin to stay at. Outside porch and grill is a plus, along with the beautiful bathtub. The TV had cable and a DVDS player if you wanted to bring DVDs to play. Sound system sounded great in the cabin, but the dock only supports the older iPod and iPhone models (non lighting cable).
Only issue I had was that the curtains in the bedroom were more for decoration and didn't cover the whole window. Let in a lot of light and woke me up before I wanted to.
One tip, the stone floors are really cold during the winter. Maybe bring some slippers.
This is the perfect cabin for a romantic getaway if you're looking for a mix of solitude in the woods, and easy access to adorable downtown Woodstock. The Cabin itself is a gorgeous mix of rustic and modern, set against the dramatic northeast woods. High ceilings, huge clear windows, and a cute little porch, give the cabin a feeling of integration with the surrounding property, and unique touches such as the cabins "zen" theme, a toasty stove, and out-in-the open, clawfoot bathtub make the space inviting and interesting enough to spend an entire weekend without leaving :) If stir-craziness gets the best of you, though, downtown Woodstock is a short walk away, and the woods and mountainsides are dotted with close-by hiking trails. I'd go back in a heartbeat!
Solitude in the woods yet 5 minutes from the center of Woodstock. Cozy, romantic, and well-appointed....
Really great! Clean and comfy. Even had a tea steeper in fully stocked kitchen! Had a small issue with needing instructions on opening the very comfortable futon and owners were very quick in returning call and helpful! Nice getaway for a few days. The town was cool to experience and the Buddhist Monastery was an interesting experience!
My husband and I stayed at the cabin for a week and a half. We had an incredible time. The cabin and surrounding woods are absolutely beautiful. 1.7 mile beautiful walk into town. Staff was wonderful and helpful to work with. Can't wait to go back.
