WELCOME TO THE TAHOE OUTSIDE INN…
…a cozy mountain getaway, located in the North Lake Tahoe vacation home community of Tahoe Donner. Our home is very convenient to the area’s major ski resorts – 13 miles from Northstar and Sugar Bowl and 18 miles from Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. Cross County enthusiasts and families with young children will appreciate the five-minute drive to Tahoe Donner’s downhill and cross country resorts. Our summer guests will appreciate the numerous hiking trails within walking distance from our home.
With floor-to-ceiling kitchen windows, picture windows in the living and dining rooms, and glass doors throughout, our bright and sunny home was designed to bring the experience of “Tahoe’s Outside In”, whether it be a winter snow storm, fall thunder shower, or one of our countless deer and chipmunks. The sweeping panorama from the main living area and front deck provide great views of the evening Alpenglow and Northstar’s snow cats at work, while early risers will enjoy the gorgeous sunrises over the backside of Mt Rose.
The beautiful slate fireplace, knotty pine vaulted ceiling, tasteful furnishings, and sweeping views are sure to lend to your perfect Tahoe getaway. If cozying up by the fire with a good book isn’t for you, perhaps a soak in our outdoor spa is. Located on the rear deck, our large Sundance Optima spa features seating for seven, variable lighting, and even a waterfall.
Those of you who like to entertain will enjoy our fully equipped kitchen, stainless steel four-burner natural gas grill (no tanks to change), large dining table, and single-level open floor plan. Our cupboards are well-stocked with numerous spices, oils, and baking essentials and if we don’t have what you need, it’s only a five-minute drive to the well-stocked local market and 10 minutes to Safeway. Our summer guests will also enjoy the large outdoor living area.
The living room includes a 42” flat panel HDTV and stereo system. In addition to HD cable, you’ll enjoy the wide selection of free Netflix movies available from our ROKU box, which also provides access to Pandora and other programming. Our home has free internet access and land-line telephone and our Apple Airport Express allows you to stream music wirelessly to our stereo system from your favorite Apple device.
Our standard winter rates are $310/night (3-nt min) or $1,680/week. Our midweek rate is $250/nt (3-nt min). MLK weekend (3-nt min) and mid-February (4-nt min) are $350/night. For NYE this year, we do require a Sunday arrival (12/29/13) and have two pricing options: a) $475/night for five-nights departing Friday am or b) $425/night for seven nights departing Sunday am. Please review our rates section for additional detail, including tax, cleaning fee, deposit, etc.
MASTER BEDROOM AND PRIVATE MASTER BATH
You’ll sleep well in the Comfy Queen Bed, with its Memory Foam Mattress pad, High Thread-Count cotton sheets, Fluffy Down Comforter, and your choice of soft down or firm pillows. The master suite is popular with our senior guests, as is the single-level floor plan of our home (with the caveat that we do have stairs leading into our home). The master bath is tastefully decorated in natural slate and features radiant heat slate flooring, walk-in shower with large bench seating, and both fixed and handheld Grohe showerheads.
In addition to providing convenient direct access to the back yard deck and hot tub, the master bedroom's Large Sliding Glass Doors affords great viewing of the local wildlife from the comfort of your own bed. Other amenities include a Flat Panel HDTV, matching nightstands, two reading lamps, dresser, and clock radio with Docking Station for your iPhone or iPod. Families with infants find plenty of room in the Master Suite to set up the Animal Time Pak-n-Play that comes with the house.
As with the master bedroom, the guest bedroom also features a Comfy Queen Bed with easily removable Memory Foam Mattress pad, High Thread-Count cotton sheets, Fluffy Down Comforter, and a choice of soft down or firm pillows. A single glass door provides a nice view of the backyard, along with direct access to the back yard deck and hot tub. Other amenities include a two-person table/desk for your laptops, Flat Panel HDTV, night stand, reading lamp, and clock radio with iPhone docking station. A wireless printer is also provided for our working guests; however, we won’t be able to assist with paper jams, malfunctions or low ink situations unfortunately.
The bunkroom is furnished with a twin bed and twin over full bunk bed that is a hit with the kids. All mattresses and linens are high quality and there are plenty of down comforters and blankets for all. The Flat Panel HDTV, with built-in DVD player, makes the room a great place for the kids to hang out and enjoy their favorite DVD.
The guest bathroom is conveniently located between the guest bedroom and bunk bedroom. Larger families and groups will appreciate the sliding door separating the dual sinks in the front half of the bathroom from the toilet and shower/tub in the back half. In keeping with the mountain theme, the combination shower/tub and floor are tastefully finished in natural slate. The functioning window provides plenty of natural light and crisp mountain air. As both bathrooms come with complimentary blow dryers, there's no need to pack your own. We also supply soap, shampoo, conditioners, and other toiletries (should you forget your own).
During the winter, you’ll really appreciate the level driveway, which is plowed regularly and provides plenty of off-street parking. In the garage, you’ll find snow-play toys for the kids and a new high-end Kettler indoor/outdoor ping pong table. In the summer, enjoy an evening meal or beverage on the large Brazilian Hardwood rear deck, which is furnished with a an eight-person dining table (constructed out of matching Brazilian Hardwood), Chaise Lounge, and two Outdoor Sofas and matching coffee table. During the summer, you'll enjoy watching the fawns frolicking in the back yard. As evenings tend to cool down in Tahoe Donner during the summer, soaking in the views of Mt. Rose from the comfort of the hot tub ranks right up there as well.
Indoor amenities include a Deluxe Gas Fireplace, flat panel HDTVs in each room, stereo system, ROKU with Netflix, video library, and high capacity washer/dryer/hot water heater. The kitchen is outfitted with matching dinnerware, glassware, flatware, and cookware. In the cupboards, in addition to the essentials, you'll find a large selection of spices, oils, etc. that should save you a run to the grocery store. Other touches include Fondue Pots, Crockpot, Cuisinart Blender, and Coffee Grinder.

Ken & Rebecca @ Tahoe Outside Inn
Ken grew up 70 miles from Truckee, in the small town of Quincy. While he has lived and traveled many places, he is a homegrown Californian who loves nature, the outdoors and the mountains he once called home. Good cinematography is a critical component of any movie worth viewing for Ken. Rebecca is one of the many midwesterners who transplanted to California in her early 20's and fell in love with outdoor lifestyle (much to the dismay of her family back in Illinois, but fortunately they enjoy visiting her). Our passion for the outdoors led us to purchase this home in Truckee. Although our jobs keep us tied to our home base in San Francisco (Ken in corporate real estate finance, Rebecca in commercial interior design), we love being in the mountains and have spent many a weekend skiing, cycling, fly fishing, hiking and swimming around Tahoe.
After viewing many houses in the Tahoe area, we immediately knew this was the perfect vacation home for us. Although we considered homes near the lakes (Tahoe and Donner), neither of these locations offered the views or numerous amenities of our home in Tahoe Donner - not to mention the fact a location on Lake Tahoe can easily add an hour or more to your drive. The amazing windows and view were what really sold us on this particular house. This home brings the outdoors to you from the comfort of your own living room! Since 2005, this home has been a labor of love for us, with countless remodeling/decorating projects and the transformation of the backyard into an amazing outdoor living space.
Our home is conveniently located on a quiet street with gorgeous views off the Alder Creek back entrance to Tahoe Donner. A quick 3 minute walk (run or bike) up from our street and you'll find yourself at a trailhead that connects to an extensive network of trails on the backside of Tahoe Donner and Euer Valley (480 beautiful acres of recently acquired by Tahoe Donner)..in the winter months, the cross country center and ski hill are super close.
