Guestbook comments from the owner

The view from the master suite was so beautiful and wonderful to wake up to, it was hard to get up and about. We enjoyed the house so much and every aspect of our stay. A great kitchen to cook in, the hot tub, and the best places to read and relax. We look forward to coming again.

Absolutely perfect

  • 5 of 5

This was the nicest VRBO property we've ever stayed in. The home is perfectly clean, well-stocked, and has an amazing view. The photos don't do it justice.

We enjoyed the hot tub and the gas fire on the deck. If the kids were just a bit older, we might have enjoyed the bikes and kayaks, too, but we saved those for next time.

Though Port Ludlow itself is tiny, it's a great base for day trips to Port Townsend and surrounding parks. We also spent a few afternoons on the beach down the steps from the house, where the kids went wild over giant shells.

Thanks for a wonderful vacation!

Great place for relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Very nice, small house overlooking the sound. The house is in very good condition with everything you need in the kitchen. Good for relaxing with a small group--not great for large groups. We saw 3 bald eagles from bed in the morning.

Wonderful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time! We brought our 2 kids age 3 and 6 and we all enjoyed the hot tub multiple times and went down to the beach to explore 2 of the days. The kids thought it was so fun to lift the beach rocks and see all the tiny crabs :) It was so peaceful too, we were the only ones on the beach! We made use of the BBQ for dinners and sat on the deck on the last day with our coffee; it was a beautiful day and we saw 2 bald eagles!! Our son wanted to count the steps down to the beach (we counted close to 100!) great workout going back up those stairs ;) We enjoyed how nice everything was in the house, the heated floors were wonderful too! We will most certainly be back and will recommend the Garden Cottage to others too! Thank you!!!

Great Place With a Few Minuses

  • 4 of 5

Overall this provided a very enjoyable getaway with a few drawbacks. On the plus side, the house itself is very nice, well kept up, and has stunning views of Hood Canal. Since we were there in January and it was very cold, we didn't get to go outside much, however we did take advantage of the hot tub situated on the porch. Wonderful experience to sit out there at night looking at the stars and the lights on the other side of the canal.

The property owners provide very detailed information about the house and property and provide a wide range of activities including games, movies, bikes, kayaks and so forth. Owners are also very prompt in answering questions and concerns and get very high marks for that.

Couple of drawbacks to be aware of, especially if you don't like to get up early and/or dislike having other houses nearby. While the master bedroom is very nice (especially the bathroom) there are large windows to take advantage of the view. Unfortunately, the windows either have no blinds at all or blinds that aren't particularly good at blocking out light. That wasn't a problem so much this time of the year when the sun comes up at 8 AM, but I can't imagine trying to sleep here during the summer when it gets light at 4:45 AM. I know I couldn't do it.

Also, there are other houses quite close by and any outside noise is quite audible from this house. One morning we heard construction sounds and music coming from next door. Fortunately, the workman was very considerate about turning down the music. However, if there was a family with children around it could get frustrating for anyone who wants peace and quiet.

Finally, while the bed in the master suite was quite comfortable, the couple who had to sleep in the second bedroom wasn't thrilled with the double beds that are combined into one as they felt it wasn't very comfortable.

Otherwise, everything else about the Garden Cottage was terrific and if the light isn't an issue for you, I'd highly recommend it.

Owner's Response: We're glad that you enjoyed your stay at the Garden Cottage and were able to enjoy some of the many amenities we provide. We appreciate your comments and hope that we can provide further assistance and clarification for our future guests about the concerns you expressed. All of the windows on the "sunny" side of the Garden Cottage have honeycomb or Roman shades that can be drawn. In addition, the house is oriented so that the high sun in the summer does not shine into the windows (the sun is much lower in the winter but, as you indicate, it does not rise until later in the morning). The blinds we have are not black-out blinds, however, so they are not light-proof. While we haven't had anyone ask about blackout blinds, we are certainly willing to consider installing some if it's a concern to our guests. Like most waterfront properties on Puget Sound, houses are sited to take advantage of water views and typically are fairly close together. We're fortunate that we have multiple lots so that our spacing is wider than normal. In addition, one of the houses next to ours is quite far behind us, so it's unlikely you would even see its occupants. The houses on both sides are occupied by very quiet retired couples. I'm so sorry that you experienced morning noise, but feel that it was a very unusual situation. We're sorry to hear that your friends did not find the second guest room to be comfortable. As we indicate in our listing, that bedroom has twin beds that we join together and make into a king bed with a Tempurpedic-type foam topper. While it's not the same as the "permanent" Tempurpedic bed in the Master, other guests have told us it's very comfortable. Thank you, again, for your comments. We appreciate this opportunity to improve the services we provide.

Relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

Such a relaxing weekend! We utilized the kayaks, hot tub and wonderful amenities like stocked pantry, surround sound, movie collection and beach access. Thanks for the bottle of wine upon check in. So thoughtful. We bought groceries on the way to the cabin and didn't leave the property, except for kayaking the coast, once.

Favorite Spring Break

  • 5 of 5

Our family really enjoyed this beautiful cottage located at a very nice beach. We had a great time relaxing; walking the beach, clamming, using the hottub, kayaking, watching wildlife like porpoise, otters, eagles, just enjoying the beautiful garden, the view, and the lovely house. Everything you might need is available from breakfast to get started the first day, lots of movies if you like to watch them, books, binoculars, fireplace, books, ....the cottage is in perfect condition very clean and cosy.

Thank you for making our vacation a great experience!
