Get away to a cozy romantic mountain top home overlooking the Southern Gulf Islands and Georgia Strait. See the snow capped coastal mountains in the daytime, and the distant lights of Vancouver at night. Both sunrises and sunsets are beautiful, and different each day.

Sleep in total quiet, wake up in the morning to sounds of birds singing, and end the day with a drink on one of two decks, or relax in the two person soaker tub with a mountain view. The home is completely powered by green non-fossil fuel energy.

This peaceful retreat is surrounded by tall cedars and Douglas firs, mossy rock cliffs, and miles of hiking trails, yet only minutes from the main town of Ganges with its Saturday Market, art galleries, music, restaurants, harbour, kayaking, and shops.

With wonderful summers and mild winters, this home is suitable for vacationers, visitors with family or friends on the island but who would like to have separate accommodations, or those with longer term ideas, perhaps 'trying out' living on Salt Spring, living and working in a quiet, revitalizing location with a view. High speed internet, satellite TV, a fully equipped kitchen, and all the other comforts of a real home.

About The Owner

We are a married couple in our early 60's, originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba. We've lived on Salt Spring Island since 2002. We work part time, and when not working are very interested in outdoor activities--hiking, bird watching, observing nature. We are committed to keeping the property we own in as natural a state as possible, while enhancing the views and paths that allow maximum enjoyment of the beautiful west coast setting.

Why The Owner chose Salt Spring Island

Salt Spring Island is simply one of the beautiful places we have ever visited on our many travels (rated in top 10 worldwide by Conde Nast). In addition to being beautiful, the population is large enough (10,000) that all usual shopping and amenities are available, in addition to ones that are unique to the large artistic community here. Before we built our permanent home here, we stayed in several vacation homes to experience the island and get better acquainted with different locations. We love the high up places the most, seeing all the different kinds of weather come and go, and changes in light, as well as the peace and quiet. The longer we are here, the more we love the island. You can do just about anything here, the restaurants, harbour and galleries are great, as well as the many artists' studios, hiking, and talented local musicians who perform in many of the pubs and restaurants.

What makes this house unique

The house is surrounded by large trees, mossy rocks, and spectacular scenery in the distance. It is decorated in a comfortable, cozy style. The Gulf Islands have very few mosquitoes or other flying insects, and so you can relax on the deck, or have deck doors open in the pleasant summer weather. In only 10 minutes you can be down the hill and in the local town (Ganges), for shopping, groceries, restaurants, galleries, evening entertainment. The Saturday Market, from Easter to Thanksgiving is especially enjoyable for both local organic food and artistic crafts.

A Wonderful Place for a Quiet Retreat!

My husband and I spent three lovely weeks at this mountain-top house on a writing retreat. We can't say enough about the beautiful views, tranquil atmosphere, and private setting.

The main floor of the house is a bright, open-concept kitchen/dining room/living room with forest views from all windows. The second floor bedroom has a comfortable queen bed, desk and lounge chair for reading/writing, and a bathroom with a new 2-person tub. Both floors have large glass patio doors which open onto decks with spectacular views.

We loved having BBQs on the deck with the setting sun and the chirping frogs, or starting our day sipping coffee in the patio chairs listening to songbirds. We also very much enjoyed walking our dog on the private trails winding through the mature forest and moss-covered rocks on the property.

The owners live next door, and were always pleasant, cheerful, and helpful.

We highly recommend this place for two people looking for a quiet, peaceful get-away.

Wonderful birthday getaway

This was a wonderful place for my husband and I to celebrate my birthday with out 2 dogs. We were close to many options for hiking and dining, yet had quiet and privacy to enjoy a good book while watching the view from the balcony. We saw eagles and deer from the deck. It was a great dog friendly retreat! We would stay here again.

So Quiet and Peaceful

My husband and I spend 4 restful nights at this unique mountain top home. We have been to Salt Spring many times and this spot might just be our favorite. The home is quite a drive uphill from Ganges so a car is a necessity but once there, it was hard to leave. The property is well-kept and the view is outstanding. The queen bed was most comfortable! We loved the two-person tub! All in all, this place had everything we needed with the small exception of a dvd player. We brought movies to watch but had to use our laptop. We will definitely be back! (BTW: great dinner at Auntie's Pesto.)
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway

A Wonderful Place

We stayed for a week at this property and, despite the weather, really enjoyed ourselves. Given that it was March, we were expecting some rain, and we weren't disappointed! We even had a dusting of snow one morning. Nonetheless, Salt Spring did not disappoint and neither did this house.

When the weather was clear, the view of the coast mountains was breathtaking. Even when it was overcast and dreary outside the house was warm and comfortable. The owners are right next door, but the house is private and we didn't even see them during our stay. The owners were easy to deal with for the rental and we have nothing but good things to say about them. All of our questions were answered and the one issue that we had (with intermittent Internet) was addressed promptly and courteously as well. The owners obviously take pride in this property.

The loft is accessed by pull-down stairs from the bedroom so this would be a "four person" house only if the four people are on very good terms! The loft has two single beds and the main bedroom has a comfortable queen size bed. It would be fine for a family with young-ish kids (6-13) but probably not ideal for 2 couples who want occasional privacy or for families with older or younger kids. The same goes for the upstairs bathroom which has been beautifully redone but which also opens onto the upstairs bedroom. For a couple this is a wonderful retreat.

Mt Belcher Heights is a steep road but the house is an honest 10 minute drive from Ganges at modest speed. You definitely will need a car if you are renting this property.

Overall, highly recommended!
