This is a perfect place for a quiet get-a-away or wonderful alternative to a required hotel stay.
Due to the setting it's best:
-for 1 or 2 people
-corporate stay in the Lexington area . (rowing
machine to help you stay in shape.)
-snowbirds in transit or scoping the area
-visiting family in the area, but prefer your privacy
Sorry, but there is no place to dock a boat or park a trailer. If you are renting a boat for a day, then check with the owners about a temporary dock .
If you stay a week and could leave the lake, it's two hours from Charleston, SC. Downtown Columbia is 35/40 minutes away and the zoo (30 minutes) State Museum and children's museum are well worth the visit. Restaurants and many shopping choices are in Lexington which is an 18 minute drive. A few restaurants and grocery stores are an easy 10 minute drive from the guest house. Most renters prefer to shop prior to arrival.
TWO KAYAKS are available to enjoy our large cove or to explore Shull Island.
Accommodations: Den and kitchen with island on one floor. Downstairs 600 sq. ft. with a queen bed and sitting area. Sleeps 2- one queen bed downstairs.
Three large windows overlooking the lake. We have all new appliances, including granite counter tops and HD TV with Dish Satellite.
There is a deck off the lower level for enjoying the lake view and for kayak or swimming access.
I can send more pictures if needed.

My husband, Andy, is a retired airline pilot who flew for Pan Am and then Delta Airlines. He commuted to NY in order to live on the lake. He is now a golfer and can gladly help you with any area golf questions. I am a former French teacher and will gladly help you with lake questions or anything else.
My husband cut 100 trees from our property in 1993 and started a 'project' with the lumber he had from the trees. He had planned for it to be a place for projects. Hence-part of the reason for the bathroom upstairs. He would work a while and then quit for a year or so. We finally decided to finish it as a guest house in order to use it for our own personal guests. We have another vrbo on Lake Murray and enjoy sharing it and lake information. That helped us decide to use the guest house as a vrbo also.
Use the private dock for grilling or just relaxing by the lake. Some just enjoy the beautiful view from inside the cottage. It is a large space for 2 people-Quiet and cozy. Perfect for relaxation! The kayaks are such fun.
Dear Ellen and Andy,
Thanks so much for allowing us to use your wonderful cottage for the week! Everything was perfect-the deck, the weather, the cottage-even the ducks were entertaining. We had a very relaxing week and plan to come back again next year! Nothing could be finer than to retire in Carolina:))
OMG! THIS WAS AN AWESOME EXPERIENCE!!!!My husband and I needed to getaway from the busy life and just enjoy each other. This place was very peaceful and the owners were a joy to meet. The view was perfect and we were able to grill while enjoying the lake view....we got to experience kayaking for the first time and even got the owner to take a couple of pictures for us....this was truly amazing and I hope to return very soon. All the comforts of home..all you need to bring is food ! The restaurants and stores are about 15 minutes away but we weren't really interested in the city stuff...we were too busy enjoying the view. This most definitely will be a "repeat"
What a beautiful spot on Lake Murray. The guest house was perfect for our get away weekend.
The cottage has a guestbook, that guests sign in and leave comments. Over and over, fellow guests have left such nice comments about the couple and this pristine site on Lake Murray.
My wife and I absolutely LOVED staying here. Upstairs is the living area with a fantastic window view of the lake. Downstairs is ALL bedroom with a doorway to the deck overlooking the lake. The deck is enshrouded by trees which gives it a very private setting. The kayaks were perfect for exploring the lake and getting a little workout. If you want/need to get away and recharge, this is the most delightful spot!
We were down for my son's graduation from Ft Lee Basic Training. The cottage was delightful and exactly as described. Ellen and Andy were gracious and accomodating. The cottage was about 50 minutes from Hilton Field at Ft. Jackson. Ellen can provide a driving route that bypasses Lexington and Columbia.
Beautiful, immaculate, cottage!!! Pictures shown here are exactly what you will be getting with the exception of the couch which has been updated. Beautiful lake view. . We were going out to a restaurant on Saturday but decided we had much rather cook on the grill and sit outside and look at that beautiful view of the lake. . Super nice owners. The best weekend getaway I think I have ever had. Only bad part, packing up and leaving. Still grieving about that!! Will be back as soon as possible!!!!
Great place to just kick back. We stayed here for our sons Army graduation and was so happy after hearing reviews from the local hotels. We were so impressed with the owners and how they treat all their guests. The place has everything you need to just relax.
