There are wide, sandy beaches to the West and East and Mont Castre - one of the highest points in the Peninsula - is 5 kms to the North. The sandy BEACH at ST GERMAIN SUR AY is approx 20 minutes by car. There are golf courses at Marchesieux (9kms), St Martin de Bréhal, Agon Coutainville, and Granville. It is possible to go by ferry to Jersey in the Channel Islands from Carteret and Granville during the summer season and all year round from St Malô. The popular tourist attractions of the WWII D Day Landing Beaches, the Bayeux Tapestry and the famous Abbey at Le Mont St Michel are all within an easy 30-90 minute drive away. Paris and sophisticated Deauville are accessible by train or car.

The self catering accommodation comprises an enormous living room/dining hall with huge, working fireplace (logs are included), stone clad walls, beamed ceilings, tapestry, 2 x three seater sofas, occasional day bed, TV, DVD player, dining table and chairs. About Lesley Edmunds

The owners, Richard and Sylvia Senior, are both retired. Richard worked as a designer in England, and Sylvia as a primary school teacher. Twenty years ago they found La Guerrie, with its architectural interest and fifteenth century origins still visible. They restored the house over a period of fifteen years, retaining all its original features. When first constructed, La Guerrie was double the size. At some point many years ago, the property was divided into two wings. In 2002, twelve years after Richard and Sylvia first purchased La Guerrie, the other wing became vacant and although in need of considerable renovation and refurbishment, they felt compelled to purchase and restore this side to its original grandeur. So although located next door, this part of the property is completely self contained with its own entrance and gardens. Each side has its own tower, one square and one round. There is only place where it is possible to access the other side and this will be made available when extra accommodation is needed for an extra two people. This is provided in a spacious, self contained loft conversion which has a large living room with corner kitchen, dining area and two single beds, plus a shower room.

Lesley Edmunds purchased this chateau / country house in 2002
Why Lesley Edmunds chose Carentan

Richard and Sylvia chose this property in St Patrice de Claids because they liked the sense of history, its tranquil setting and its convenience for local amenities. Their interests are reflected in the mixture of antique and classic modern furniture, pictures and library which the house contains.

They were also attracted to this part of Normandy for the numerous places of interest to visit including the World War II Landing Beaches, and the associated museums and memorials. There is also a great choice of leisure activities on offer such as golf, tennis, horseriding, swimming, sailing, windsurfing, horse trotting, fishing, cycling and walking either along the country lanes or on the many coastal paths. Parents and children alike will enjoy any one of the many safe and sandy beaches.

On most days of the week it is possible to wander around a market and buy some local produce to sample, and there's a huge range of restaurants serving all types of food but especially good are the locally caught fish and shellfish.

Richard and Sylvia will show you around the property and answer any questions you may have when you arrive. You will also find a welcome basket to help you to settle in.

Wonderful Experience

5 of 5
Submitted: August 18, 2012 Stayed: June 2012
In June, we took my parents to France for their first European vacation. When we saw the manoir online, we knew we found the perfect location for our adventures to the Normandy Beaches, Bayeaux, and St. Mere Eglise. Our only disappointment was that we couldn't stay longer at this amazing location. It was beautiful with enormous fireplaces and cozy sitting areas. This is the perfect place to read on rainy days and take long walks, exploring the countryside, on beautiful ones.
The owners were lovely people and we would love to return.

Amazing "Castle" rental

Amazing "Castle" rental

Fantastic base for Normandy beach excursions. Only a short 10 min. ride to local village (Perriers) with several shops and bakeries. Easy drive to Mont Saint Michel and several towns to open food/farmers markets.
Quiet and comfortable "castle" with gigantic fire place we used every night. Great house for large extended family group. Large enclosed area for kids to run around.
Owners are very gracious and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return again.

A nice stay in the French countryside

This "castle" is very nice for a fairly large family and friends vacation. It was built long ago, so it's more like an adventure than a hotel. There is a town close by (Périers), with plenty of shoping, since you are going to be cooking for yourselves, or going to one of the nearby towns. Le Mont-Saint-Michel and the Normandy beaches are the best sights near this part of France.

Wonderful holiday in France

Submitted: September 16, 2010 Stayed: June 2010
We stayed here for a whole month in the summer, and had a wonderful time. Great location for exploring all of Normandy. We are a family of 4, with kids 12/8 and they never tired of roaming around the house and large gardens. Admittedly it was a heatwave while we were there, so we were able to eat outside in the sun most days and have many beach afternoons (the coast is about 15/20mins drive). We drove the 5mins to the local town each morning and picked up fresh croissant. Its a wonderful house...huge stone walls, massive fireplaces, wonderfully situated on the very edge of the village. Very friendly and helpful owners next door. I would definitely recommend this, and would love to go back. It was exactly what we were looking for, for our lazy month in France.
