CHARMING TOWNHOUSE WITH POOL IN SECURE COMMUNITY

Antigua Townhome Rental Photos and Description

Townhome, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths - sleeps up to 6 (4 adults + 2 children)

Looking for a warm, comfortable, charming, safe and convenient place to call home while visiting magical Antigua, Guatemala? Look no further! Our fully-equipped home has all the conveniences of modern living, with the old world charm of Central America.

It is an ideal house for couples, families, groups of friends, volunteers at the many nonprofit organizations surrounding Antigua, those who are attending Spanish school, or anyone who simply wants a peaceful place to enjoy beautiful Guatemala.

The house is located within walking distance of everything in Antigua. It's about a 10 minute walk to the Central Park, dozens of restaurants (just 5 minutes to the famous Hotel Panza Verde), the best grocery store, the food and craft markets, a wonderful spa, a gym, and even a movie theater.

The exact location is 9th Calle Poniente between 5th Avenida Sur and Santa Lucia. It is a small, gated community of townhomes with two security men on duty 24-hours a day. Our cheerful home is located at the back of the property, across from the pool, and farthest from the cobblestone street so the noise of traffic is far away and you can sleep peacefully, waking to the cacophony of birds in the trees behind the house.

The house has everything you need to make your stay in Antigua comfortable and memorable. The colorful dishes, fabrics, and wall hangings bring Guatemala indoors, and locally-made rod-iron chandeliers in the upstairs rooms hang from 15 foot ceilings. The modern kitchen has a good selection of pots, pans, and utensils to make cooking easy, and you can stay connected to the rest of the world through the cable TV and desk top computer with fast and reliable high-speed interent access. The comfortable beds are fitted 100 percent cotton sheets and the bath towels and pool towels are 100 percent cotton. The full-sized washer and dryer will make vacation laundry a breeze. You'll also appreciate the screened windows (unusual in Antigua) that will keep the mosquitoes out so you can enjoy the great Antigua weather all year round.

Upon your arrival you will find the Welcome Book, complete with helpful information about restaurants, sites, activities, excursions, and tips about the house. Our American property manager lives in Antigua and is available to help you book tours and transportation, and answer other questions you may have.

So, enjoy a glass of wine or a cup of coffee while sitting on the tiled patio watching your kids swim in the huge pool just in front of the house. Or stroll the grounds and look up to see the volcano Agua keeping a watchful eye on you, while you pick limes from the garden trees.

And at the end of a day spent in Antigua, you'll be happy to return to our quiet and peaceful community. You'll walk through the gates, be greeted by the security men who are always on duty, return to our lovely casita and feel instantly at home!

About The Owner

We live in Washington, D.C. I run a nonprofit organization and my husband is the Dean of the University of Baltimore School of Law. We have two daughters, ages 14 and 11, who love our house in Guatemala!

The Owner purchased this townhome in 2007

Why The Owner chose Antigua

We fell in love with Antigua during the adoption of our youngest daughter from Guatemala in 2003. After returning for visits for a couple of years and staying in other people's houses, we decided to buy our own house because we always want a connection to Guatemala.

What makes this townhome unique

Our house feels like home. It's very comfortable and welcoming and it takes no time to feel as if you belong there. It's proximity to central Antigua is perfect: you're close enough to walk to everything in 10 minutes but far enough away to escape the noise. You'll awake to birds chirping instead of the sound of cars bumping over cobblestone streets. It's also wonderful to have such easy access to the pool (which is hardly ever used) and the grassy open space. You can invite your friends over to swim or host a party in the grassy area in front of our house. The security men provide tables and chairs to seat a large group, at no extra cost. Make the most of your stay in this charming city and our welcoming house!

Lovely home perfect for a writing sabbatical

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I visited Casa Alegre for a week in August 2014 and had a wonderful time. I know Antigua well, but it was my husband's first trip. I spent the mornings in Spanish classes and he dedicated the week to writing, using the house as a home office. It was perfect for that purpose -- quiet, peaceful, with a lovely view, and all the convenience of being in a home instead of a hotel. The house is lovely, and very well-equipped, with a spacious master bedroom and bath. The neighbors were very friendly and offered tips on local excursions. The location is very convenient to Antigua's Gym, a grocery store, and several of Antigua's excellent restaurants. We spent most afternoons walking around Antigua, taking in the local sights, but the home would also be a perfect base for day-long or multi-day excursions. We plan to return and will absolutely stay in Casa Alegre again.

Unbelievable property

  • 5 of 5
We were a group of 5 friends, 2 married couples and Sean. We had an amazing time in Antigua. The property is immaculate. Everything is very clean, the guards at the gate were very nice, the neighbors welcomed us into their community. The description was very accurate, the photos do not do the place justice, it is bigger than you would think and with 2.5 baths we never had to wait. If you are renting this place you have to go eat at Por Que No? They treat you like family there and have the best food in Guatemala. It is on the corner of 9th Calle and either 4th or 3rd or 2nd Ave (I cant remember). It is a tiny restaurant with a neat decor and unbelievable food. Hike Pacaya, it is worth it. If you have time take the night bus to Tikal, the ruins there are fantastic. We will definitely be coming back.
Lago Atitlan is worth going to as well, we stayed at the Mikaso hotel and would reccomend it.

Cozy and Relaxing Stay

  • 5 of 5
We very much enjoyed our stay at this cozy townhouse in the lovely gated community. Flowers and limon trees, a pool, friendly neighbors, plenty of room inside and outside for the children (ages 6, 8) to play. We awoke with a view of a volcano and the sounds of birds (and fireworks due to the new year's holidays!). The townhouse itself was well-equipped - lovely kitchen/outside eating areas + living area + 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. A washer/dryer plus clothes line. The Internet and TV worked well, plus there were toys /games /books to share. The location was close enough to walk to town even with children.

exceptional quality en Antigua

  • 5 of 5
I was very pleased with this casa, very well decorated, beautiful location, very safe, but especially with the fully functioning kitchen. Since I do not eat out much, with the exception of at the Traveller´s Menu...a small bar that serves awesome curried vegetables with tofu...meat if you so choose, I was happy to see all the pots-pans, bowls, serving pieces needed, plus the very basic spices, which were especiallyappreciated. And of course WiFi...an absolute necessity, in my opinion! It is about a 15 minute walk to the Parque Central, whether you go up 5th Ave or Santa Lucia, past the mercado. For me that is perfect as I like to walk. The Bodegona is easy to access from Santa Lucia, though you have to breath the buses belching. Do remember to stock up way before the holidays as almost imposible to get in the Bodegona immediately before Christmas or New Years.

Nancy, the person in charge of the casa, was most responsive to any questions, answering promptly to either phone or email. That was also very appreciated.

We only used the pool once but I did see that they clean the leaves out every a.m. The property is well maintained.

You cannot go wrong with this excellent location and casa. Several games for children was a special touch. And some books...I always appreciate that.

Welcoming home with everything to make our holiday relaxing and easy.

  • 5 of 5
It was wonderful to walk in and feel so much at home so quickly. Casa Alegre was our home for 3 weeks and we did several excursions away - so it was especially fantastic to know we had such a secure and lovely base to leave and come back to. Our two children settled into their own rooms really comfortably and never tired of the delightful pool - or - a real bonus - the trampoline! We had wifi problems due to the storms I think and Nancy, the house manager was marvellously persistent in getting it sorted for us, and we really felt she was there for us whatever happened.

We had our birthfamily meeting here, which felt exactly right - plenty of space for the children to run around together, loads of garden furniture, and completely private. The time seemed to fly by.

Having visited other hotels in Antigua, we really appreciated the independence, quiet and privacy of Casa Alegre. It's location meant it was quiet but still only a 10 min stroll into Central Park, and the main supermarket. Really great place to combine hanging out in Antigua with long trips away visiting places further away like Tikal and Lake Atitlan.

We only wish we were still there!!

Antigua week

  • 5 of 5
Thank you so much for opening your home to our family. It was bigger and nicer than we imagined. It felt like we were walking into our own home. The thoughtful finishing touches make it feel warm and homey. It was the perfect size and location for our family with 2 little kids. Your neighbors were so kind and welcoming, too. It was perfect for our stay in Antigua. Thank you.

La Antigua Guatemala was the colonial Spanish capital of Central America. It is a World Heritage site, and is perhaps the most popular tourist destination in Guatemala. Antigua is very compact and easy to walk around. Most tourist destinations are in an 8-by-8 block area less than 1 km across. You can walk across it in 15 min.
