They have four grown children: Jennifer, Victoria, Jillian and Gregeory - all of whom went to Bentley College in Boston and now live in the Boston area. Terabethia, the name of the home on Mile Stretch Road, is the center of family gatherings where all of the Tourangeau's continue to build upon the memories of Biddeford Pool.
Kevin W. Tourangeau purchased this house in 2009
Diane and Kevin Tourangeau built a new home on a vacant lot in the heart of Biddeford Pool in 2009 for the purpose of renting to family and friends. The property was one of the few remaining gems in the Pool. The features of the house are over-shadowed only by the community spirit enjoyed by all during the summer months in this exclusive seaside enclave. Summers in Biddeford Pool are for families and friends seeking to share their lives and memories.
11 First Street is a unique home that combines all of the amenities of a new house with the feeling of an old New England mansion. The carefully constructed mansard roof and wrap-around farmers porch give it a charm only found in yester-years while blending in with the Biddeford Pool community. Its location on a top of a hill yields ocean views enjoyed only by a few homes in Biddeford Pool. Its warm and inviting appeal allows you to be most comfortable without compromising any functionality or convenience.
We truly had a wonderful time. We will be sure to tell our family and friends about your getaway on the beach. Thanks again!
This house was great for our summer family vacation. We are three generations, ages 3 to 60+. Throughout the week we had 9-11 adults and 5 children. The kids (cousins ages 3 – 8) like to camp out in one bedroom, so that left plenty of bedrooms for everyone else. The house was so large that we never felt crowded (we joked that we would need GPS to find the kids). There was a bathroom for each bedroom, so that was a luxury compared to other houses we’ve rented. The house was a short walk to the beach. At the beginning of the week the beach had a lot of seaweed from a recent storm, so we used the public beach (which had lifeguards, which was a bonus) just down the road. At the end of the day we used a car to get the beach gear back but most of us would walk back up the beach to return to the house.
The area was very nice and quiet. The kids were able to ride their bikes around the neighborhood every day. The small back yard was mostly the parking area, but we found a table in the basement that we put out there and that’s where we usually all gathered for dinner. There’s a local market with fresh lobster and other food. Very nice people but expensive as small markets usually are. Supermarkets and large stores are about 20 minutes away in Biddeford.
The owner was very nice and helpful. We’d never been to the area so he answered several emails about the location and the house, and met us at the beginning of the week. It was a great week, a great house, very welcoming owner. We would definitely rent again.
Thumbs up: new house; 7 bedrooms (actual bedrooms, not sleeping nooks, lofts or other craziness), 7 full bathrooms, enough space for 5 cars to park behind the house; sand beach in walking distance; nature sanctuary in walking distance; lobster pound in walk able distance (although we drove to get them cheaper in Scarborough); fantastic cool ocean breeze; close enough to Portland for a day trip to the city.
Things that might be better: Dining room table needs to bigger for a house this size; bunk or twin beds in one of the rooms might work better for large family groups.
Having lived in Maine and spent summers in Fortunes Rocks/Biddeford Pool, we wanted the next generation of our family to experience for themselves, the magical natural wonders this off the beaten path beach community has to offer.
The goal was to find a house that could accommodate up to 15 of us. When this home came up in the search, it seemed too good to be true. The 7 bathrooms helped sell it for us. This home is so spacious and well laid out, it never felt crowded. It was in immaculate condition when we checked in. Kevin gave us a tour pointing out all the amenities and was always quick to respond when we called with any questions. The wide open kitchen was spotless and equipped with all the basics. The back yard is huge with plenty of room for parking and there is an outdoor table and grill. The Wi-Fi had a strong signal in all rooms of the house.
The beach is a 6 minute walk down the street and through a shady wooded path in the Southpoint Sanctuary leading to a newly constructed boardwalk taking you to the best beach Maine has to offer.
To show that actions truly speak louder than words, it was a unanimous decision from all members of the family that we return next summer and we already have a week booked with Kevin for 2014.
What a magnificent home with all the amenities one could possibly hope for including a very caring and concerned owner who went out of his way in order to rectify a WiFi problem. When we arrived, all beds were made, clean towels were in all bedrooms with additional beach towels provided. The kitchen was well equipped with dishes, silverware, pots and pans etc. to easily accommodate all ten of us. All appliances were in good working order, including an outside BBQ of which we made use. The picture on the VRBO site shows only 8 chairs in the dining room, but there are extra chairs in a downstairs closet plus additional folding chairs. Easy access to the beach was closer and better than we anticipated. There was more than enough room to park 3 full sized cars and two vans. Laundry facilities conveniently located in the basement. There are so many major pluses and wonderful things about this house, too numerous to mention. Highly recommend this home and we definitely want to return.
Had a truly wonderful time! Great place for a large group. Close to beach and short drive to all kinds of fund things to do. Will recommend to our family and friends.
The owner told me after we arrived that there were no bed linens or towels. The carpet and furniture were stained and shabby. On Saturday when we were having breakfast at 9:00 he said if we did not get out immediately he would call the police. It was a family reunion, with three people in there 80's and children under the age of 15. I did not read the fine print because I have has only good experiences from VRBO. This was terrible. Read the small print in the contract. Don't make the mistake we do. My husband is the consul of Belgium in Arizona, and I had three sets of cousins that have houses in this area.
