Private Lakeside Cabin, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Rainbow Lake Lodge is a completely private cabin home on its own spacious lot in a quiet lake setting in Willow, Alaska. We only have one rental on the property so you will not have to share the area or your cabin with any other guests. The living area is on the second floor giving guests a panoramic view of the surrounding birch tree forest and beautiful Rainbow Lake. There are two bedrooms upstairs each with a queen size bed. We recently added a downstairs bedroom with two twin size beds. There is a full kitchen and the bathroom offers you all the comforts of home. In the summer there are three docks in different locations along our 1,000 feet of shoreline which gives our guests the opportunity to enjoy the sun as it moves across the sky. We have a short walking trail which winds its way through the property passing our flower and vegetable gardens ending at our gazebo.

Rainbow Lake Lodge is located on Rainbow Lake in the heart of the Matanuska Susitna Valley, between Anchorage and Denali National Park, bordering on the Nancy Lake Recreational Area Park in Willow, the home of the Iditarod Sled dog Race restart. There are many recreational options. Fishing, hiking, boating, 4 wheeling, and sightseeing in the summer. Winter offers excellent snow machining and cross country skiing with a network of established trails reaching miles into remote areas.

Our cabin has two large decks which overlook the lake. Other property owners on the lake are mainly here on the weekends so if you stay with us during the week you might have the lake mostly to yourself. We have no neighbors that are visable across the lake from the guest cabin which gives you unobstructed views of the Alaska wilderness. There is no public access to the lake so only property owners have access.

Our beautiful property offers an excellent chance to just relax and enjoy the loons calling and the occasional moose, bear, or smaller wildlife that does wander by. The area is well known for its excellent fishing with Willow Creek offering salmon, trout and grayling fishing. Guided trips can be arranged. Fly out trips for flight seeing and fishing can also be arranged.

About Steve or Sharon Wells

Steve and Sharon are long time Alaskans. We have been bringing our family and friends to the lake since 1978. We built both the Cabin Apartment and our separate Log Cabin Lodge and spend as much time here as we can. Steve is retired from the State of Alaska, has been a pilot, registered hunting guide, enjoys fishing, snow machining, and is a veteran. Sharon operates her own business in Anchorage as a Registered Guardian.

We choose this area because it is conveniently located just an hour and half driving time from Anchorage, on a lake with a south facing view, on well maintained roads, with all the conveniences and far enough away to be on the edge of a wilderness type setting.

Quiet. Easy drive from Anchorage. Private Lake. Your own fully equipped apartment with beautiful view of the lake. Excellent stop over to or from Denali National Park. Travel advice and tips from Alaskans who have been to all the tourist points of interest and can offer some tips that will make your visit unique and enjoyable.

Never noticed the rain

Wow, what a place you have here. We feel very fortunate to have found you and this wonderfulplace you created. It rained every day but we never even noticed! We got our "fix" of catching pike off the pier and the kids had a great time playing with Lukas and Emma in the sandbox. The scenery, picking cranberries, seeing you home (especially that fabulous staircase!!) walking the grounds, listing to the loons talk back and forth, breathing the pristine air, sitting on the deck with morning coffee looking at the lake, and getting the chance to meet you all and experience your generosity & hospitality, were among the things we enjoyed the most.

Honeymoon

On to Denali

We stopped by for two nights on our way to Denali. We especially enjoyed sharing conversation with Steve & his kind welcoming manner. The Rainbow Lodge is georgeous & the setting moved us a little closer to our tranquil zone. Our son enjoyed fishing off the pier & our daughter loved the fuzzy blankets. Fishing the nearby Willow Creek for silvers & pinks was also a highlight. The total feeling was really a treat. Your attention to detail in the design of this place is just awesome.

No stress

I think it would be impossible to leave here feeling any stress. We're both well-rested and relaxed , wishing for a few more days. Sharon, as I write this we haven't met, but please know I see your special touches everywhere. We've been very well taken care of.
