Cabuya is in the Southern Tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. In case you are not familiar with this area, I have also included some information:
The Southern Nicoya Peninsula is a make-up of some of the most amazing communities in Costa Rica not to mention the world. Unlike other beach communities in Costa Rica, this area is free from over development both commercially and residentially. With its eclectic group of people and cultures it easy to see the rich and famous or celebrity type enjoying the same beaches and dining in the same restaurants as backpackers.
The Southern Nicoya Peninsula is a make-up of Paquera, Tambor, Cobano, Montezuma, Delicias, Cabuya, Mal Pais, Playa Carmen and the Santa Teresa, and the Manzanillo area. Each Southern Nicoya Community has it’s own distinct flavor.
We feel this area is one of the most desirable as well as the best priced. What is there not to love about this charming, laid-back, friendly, international community?

We are a family from the Bay Area looking to share our lovely home with you. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
The Owner purchased this house in 2008
What an amazing home that you have here in Cabuya. My husband and I brought our two year old here for her first adventure out of the States. Thank you for creating a space that feels like home. It truly has been our home away from home. Rosa was amazing and so helpful :) .
My husband and I felt like kids again here. We loved hanging out in your pool and relaxing on the porch watching the various birds fly from tree to tree. What a magical place you have here. The only thing that I think could be added to Casa de Lassus are hammocks!
We had a wonderful experience at this beautiful home in Cabuya, Costa Rica. We stayed for five weeks with a family of six, including four young children. The home is exquisite and well-appointed. We found we had everything we needed. The beds are comfortable and the outdoor space is divine. Some days we just hung around the house, enjoying the pool and the fantastic hammocks. It's true, there is no air conditioning, but we found ourselves accustomed to the heat fairly quickly. The (very clean) pool is fantastic, by the way! The owner and the caretaker, Rosa, are wonderful people. We found them to be helpful and kind every step of the way, including when we needed to leave quickly due to a family emergency. We loved the location of this home. Cabuya is quaint with beautiful shorelines and the people are so friendly. I couldn't recommend the home more!!
In terms of Cabuya, it can be helpful to know a few things. First, a car or ATV is necessary to fully enjoy the area unless you are comfortable walking long distances. There is a public bus, but it is somewhat unreliable. Visit Jenny at the Cafe Coyote is a must. Try the coffee at the Cabuya Bakery and the family-style meals at Delphin De La Luna. We found that we didn't swim at Playa Cabuya, due to the rocks, but there are numerous beautiful beaches very close by. Check out Playa Montezuma, Playa Grande, Mar Azul, Playa Carmen and Playa Hermosa.
We stayed at the property for 4 nights in Jan 2015. The yard and pool are beautiful. The house was as described. We were disappointed that there was no BBQ as advertised. Air conditioning would be a nice addition as the house is quite warm at night. Jenny at Coyote Café was great, she provided much information about the area, she booked a tour for us and also arranged a taxi. She serves delicious watermelon drinks. We ate there one night and the food was good also.
We are N. Americans resident in Costa Rica for more than 30 years and with lots of experience renting vacation houses around the country for stays with our family and friends. We like a homey private and peaceful country atmosphere in a beautiful, interesting place with the conveniences of home. This house, with many beautiful details of wood and tile in its tasteful architecture, is the nicest we have found. The pool is sparkling clean and was perfect for us and our 3 grandchildren ages 7, 9 and 12. The house is well located for exploring the many special areas nearby, with short drives to spectacular uncrowded beaches between Cabuya and Montezuma, the Cabo Blanco nature reserve, and the interesting Cemetery Island near Cabuya. The Cabuya beach itself is about 400m by road from the house. It has solid rock formations that extend far into the water so it is a scenic but not a good swimming beach. There are good restaurants very nearby where you can get gourmet-quality pizza and delicious fresh tropical fruit smoothies, which seem to be a specialty of this part of Costa Rica. In Montezuma there are a number of very good restaurants as well. But you can easily get supplies at local supermarkets and cook in the well-equipped kitchen of this house (which even has well sharpened cooking knives!) if you prefer to just relax “at home.” The spacious porch with comfortable chairs and hammocks joins the house to the garden area which is small but very lush and private, where we saw a surprising number of spectacular birds, including four species of parrots, chachalacas, a heron, toucanets, a rail, hummingbirds, brown jays and others either in the garden or flying overhead. We had absolutely no problem with mosquitoes during our 4-day stay. Beds are comfortable, and the caretaker family is very efficient and helpful. The owner is prompt in answering emails and makes you feel very welcome as guests in this house.
We just returned from staying at the Cabuya Dream House for 5 weeks. The house was simply divine...totally open and comfortable. The housekeeper came for 4 days a week and maintained the house immaculately. The owner is very good to work with and cares about the house and its visitors. It is also good to know that we felt very safe at the house. Being able to sleep with the windows open was a treat and very comfortable. We woke early every morning to the sounds of birds and howler monkeys set amidst a beautiful flowering tropical garden. We were able to do many adventures in the area: snorkeling, surfing, kayaking, ATVs and ziplininng The house was great, the food was great, the water is good...what'ss not to love. We would definitely return as our 5 weeks was blissful.
The house became our home for our family vacation. Relaxing into the pace of life Costa Rica offers was perfect and exactly what we needed. As our family which includes adult children has dispersed far and wide, we appreciated making our home in Cabuya to enjoy the beauty and adventure. The house itself was beyond our expectations as photos cannot do justice to reality. Rosa the housekeeper is a gem and even though we had a language barrier we were fully prepared for the scritching of the house lizard in the morning hours as Rosa had described it to us. The early morning howler monkeys bring up the sun and we found this time of day to be ideal for bird watching and photography. Cooking and eating together, the local shops and markets which had everything we needed, ordering fruit from the delivery truck with the help of Jenny the Coyote Cafe owner next door, the amazing beach, interesting and new plants and animals, hiking to the Cabo Blanco beach, and the local eateries and panaderia were all fantastic. All of this was within walking distance.
We appreciated our 4-wheel vehicle! It carried us to surfing, snorkeling, SCUBA, thrilling falls to jump, and many beach locations. "Dry season only roads" are exciting!!! And we enjoyed many delicious meals in Montezuma.
Best of all though were the people. They were warm and welcoming. This was our first trip, and we hope to repeat it. Debra and Jim's responses to our questions prepared us perfectly. We will be back. Pura Vida!
Our second vacation to Costa Rica (to experience a different area) . Loved the house and a chance to have a relaxing week living in a quiet village before a second week of exploring the peninsula and Monteverde.
We were concerned the climate might be too hot for us, but the house was very comfortable with fans, breezes, shade of jungle, and great pool.
The beach is rocky in Cabuya, but it is fun to walk out and snorkel at Isla Cabuya at low tide.
We rented a 4x4 from San Jose and took little trips to Montezuma (hike to waterfall), Mal Pais and Santa Terese (beautiful beach).
We did the arduous 4 hour jungle trek to lovely secluded beach and back in Cabo Blanco reserve and saw monkies and other wildlife, including a mass of gorgeous blue butterflies.
It was always a treat to return for a swim in the pool and relaxing in the beautiful yard and gardens, listening to the sweet songs of birds and the occassional howler monkey roar.
We had some great meals at El Coyote 2 doors down, the Bakery, and El Castanho.
The house is as described and Rosa is a wonderful hardworking employee. She didnt speak any English but we had fun conversing with her in our limited Spanish and with translation apps on wifi.
Nice to get to know the locals.
This was a wonderful week of relaxing, exploring, and experiencing another unique locale of Costa Rica. I would recommend this property for those who do not want the typical touristy destination.
Note: Travelling further into peninsula (we went on to Playa Carillo) on crazy roads in rented vehicle is only for the adventurous.
