3-BR MT. EVANS CABIN WITH TROUT STREAM

Idaho Springs House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 7)

Beautiful secluded 1450-square-foot mountain home, one of only a handful of private homes -- and the only vacation rental -- located within the Arapaho National Forest, adjacent to the Mount Evans Wilderness Area and close to Echo Lake and Mt. Evans. Hike, cross-country ski, sled, explore, or just relax and take in the million dollar views without leaving the property or getting into a car. Across the well-maintained access road -- Colorado Scenic Highway 103 -- are more Forest Service trails and roads for hiking, snow-shoeing, or cross-country skiing. These trails lead to Mount Evans and the Mount Evans Wilderness Area. The house is privately situated on 16 acres and you cannot see another house or the road from this house or its two decks. Chicago Creek runs through the property for half a mile, providing private views and fishing. Children will love to roam the woods and make forts in the summer or snowmen in the winter. We have a great sledding hill for youngsters, older kids practice snowboarding on the rails we put up in winter. If you do want to get away, it is only 12 minutes to brew pubs and restaurants in historic and charming Idaho Springs and I-70. From the house, it is 45 minutes to downtown Denver in one direction, or 45 minutes to the top of the Continental Divide in the other direction. Loveland Ski Resort is 40 minutes away. Other major ski resorts are just a little farther. Echo Mountain Ski and Snowboard Resort is 10 miles away.

The house has been almost completely renovated in the last year and is tastefully furnished. Large picture windows and sliding glass doors bring the outdoors inside. The living room has new leather couches, a cozy pellet stove, a genuine Stickley rocker, and a 40 inch flat screen tv with DVD and satellite. We recently added free WiFi. A generous movie collection (150 plus) will satisfy all ages and tastes. The house has a huge selection of games (over 20) and books as well. The dining room table expands to seat everyone. The house has high end mattresses and beds with down comforters that augment the quilts and throws for chilly evenings. The house has two new bathrooms, featuring a walk-in two-person slate shower, marble vanity, and slate floors in the master bathroom. The kitchen is fully equipped with new appliances, spices, oils, and cookbooks. It is easy to cook outside on the front deck with the oversize stainless gas grill or on the Weber charcoal grill on the back deck. 7 picnic tables scattered across the property allow you to pick your dining spot.

This summer is booked almost solid, so now is the time to make reservations for next summer or this coming fall/winter season.

Your host Scot Kersgaard and his family bought this property as a weekend retreat and future retirement home and have only recently begun renting it. Our boys spent their childhood wandering in the woods, building forts, and shooting arrows and B-B guns at targets on the old stage coach road that runs through the property. They would pan for gold in the creek in the summer, or snowboard and make ski jumps on the hill in front on the house in winter. The dogs go crazy when they see us get our hiking shoes on, they love the property, too. We live in Lakewood and still come up and enjoy the house. Scot is a journalist and realtor and his wife is a public interest lawyer.

The Owner purchased this house in 2003

We bought here because of the rare combination of proximity to Denver, easy access via a plowed highway, and the sense of remoteness that comes from being on 16 acres next to National Forest. We couldn't have found a more perfect location. It's close enough to town that we can easily come up for only one night, or even just to spend a day hiking. It is also close to numerous downhill ski areas. Loveland is less than 40 minutes, Winter Park and Copper Mountain are less than an hour away, even accounting for weather and traffic.

Our dogs tend to keep wildlife away, but we have seen many deer, foxes, rabbits, and birds. Guests have reported seeing moose and elk. Scot has climbed a nearby 13er without getting in a car. We often go for all-day hikes and then have a nice place to stay without driving back to the city. If we don't feel like a major hike, there is great walking right on the property, with gorgeous year-round white-water creeks and springs, as well as distant views. Old-growth forest features enormous spruce trees scattered among aspen groves.

INCREDIBLE VIEW!

  • 5 of 5
My 3 best friends from college and I take an annual trip to just hang out and catch up. We picked this VRBO out of all the ones nationally thinking it would be perfect for our guys weekend out. Man are we happy we did! The views from the house are incredible! Imagine waking up to the foothills and mountains every day! Plus the owner has the house fully stocked with firewood, dishes, and kitchen, bathroom and bedroom items. And the fire pit is perfect for chatting and hanging out. This was a great place to be. I highly, highly, recommend!

PEACEFUL, CLEAN WILDERNESS GETAWAY

  • 5 of 5
We stayed here for the weekend with a total of 6 people. Everyone had a their own room with ample storage space. Pellet stove worked great and would quickly warm us after a long day hiking. We would love to come back and explore some more! The trip was too short! Owner was responsive to questions and suggestions.

OUR TRIP ONCE AGAIN 2013

  • 5 of 5
Once again we had a great visit in the mountains, the weather could not have been any better. We saw snow 2 different times and with the Aspin trees in full color it was beautiful. We walked all around the property several different times.
We also went into Georgetown and rode the train.
We saw 3 deer, a fox, several ground squirrels and chipmunks, and several different types of birds on property.
The cabin again was clean and made us feel right at home. We hope to return in the near future.
Thank you again Scot for all of your communication with me.

BEAUTIFUL MOUNTAIN HOME FOR FAMILY GATHERING

  • 5 of 5
Thank you for sharing your beautiful mountain home with us. We had a wonderful time exploring your land. We were lucky to be here on Memorial Day weekend so we could be in the first group of people headed up Mt. Evans! This was a wonderful place to celebrate graduations with family. We will definitely be back

CAN'T WAIT TO COME BACK!

Can't wait to come back!

7/24/13
What a fabulous week! We hiked Devil's Canyon (just up the road), Arapahoe Pass, Chief Mountain (!!) and Mt. Evans and had terrific hikes and beautiful scenery, but nothing topped coming "home" to this breathtaking property!

Our kids (ages 15, 12, and 9) combed every inch of wood and stream. We kept thinking we'd found our absolute favorite spot, only to come around the bend & find a new favorite!

The house was great. Room for all of us to be together when we wanted, and spread out when it was time for a little solitude. We never did figure out the telescope, but loved being able to watch the Rockies play, eat home-cooked meals, wash all that grubby "outside" laundry, and just hang out.

We loved staying here and hope to return soon!
