The Owner purchased this house in 1995
We rented the Calico Hill house the week of August 10th on the island. You cannot ask for a better location on Block Island. The house was right across the street from Three Sisters sandwich shop(which you HAVE to try by the way if you're here). We enjoyed such a beautiful week that it was hard to say goodbye. The house itself could use a good cleaning and some furniture updates (squeaky beds, etc)...but the location and deck overlooking town was breathtaking. The house has everything you need for your stay - towels, beach chairs, boogie boards and pail/shovels for the kids. There is a washer/dryer which made the week super convenient for my family of 5. There are two bedrooms and the separated living room in the front of the house acts like a third bedroom, so plenty of accommodations. I would highly recommend this house for your enjoyment...Block is a fantastic destination for friends and family! If you have kids, most definitely visit the Abrams Farm just up the hill from town (Old Harbor) - they have a petting zoo and animals like lemurs, camels, kangaroos, etc - my kids loved it (ages 3-11).
Communication was not great with the owner, but we understood that he was going through a tough time when we rented...no matter. We made the best of it and left the house just as we found it with laundered linens, etc. ENJOY BLOCK!!!
Calico Hill couldn't have been more perfect for our family. Beautiful blue ocean vistas greeted us each dawn from this charming hilltop retreat literally steps from Water Street and Crescent Beach. Each evening we were bathed in the warm glow of summertime sunsets. Fantastic breezes kept us refreshed day and night. A wonderful opportunity we hope to repeat again. Thank you.
Location, Location, Location. And this property is in the middle of it all. Located on a hill overlooking the Old Harbor, it is removed by it's location, but within easy walking distance of downtown. We rented it for one week July 10th till July 17th, and were very happy with our selection. The owner is very nice and went out of his way to assure our comfort.
The furnishings were comfortable, with two bedrooms and a guest pull out couch. But let's face it, the reason we went to Block Island was for the beaches, island scenery and of course shopping. We did it all. And were happy to return to our place at the end of the day.
The views from the deck are spectacular. There is a great view of the beach, and the harbor. You virtually look down on the whole island. I would recommend this house to anyone who enjoys the island.
The only reason that I did not give 5 stars is because the property was not full service. We did have to visit the transfer station to drop off trash, and recyclables. Also, cleaning services were not included.
But this property IS pet friendly. And that was a huge reason as to why we choose this property in the first place. It was a great experience.
