Canadian Lakes House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

Rest and play in our spacious 1800sf cottage right on all-sports Main Canadian Lake in the beautiful Canadian Lakes resort area. This spacious split level comes loaded with cottage charm inside and out and has just undergone a complete update by the new owners...You will be welcomed by new denim-blue siding with white trim and fresh cottage-chic furniture on the inside in shades of blueberry, apple, white and khaki. Even the windows and doors have been replaced! If you would like to walk through the cottage room by room, CLICK ON THE LINK TO OUR COTTAGE BLOG (under the rate info. below)...

UPSTAIRS - The fully equipped kitchen, which features plenty of cheerful white beadboard cabinetry, includes a gas range, microwave, dishwasher, super-size side-by-side fridge, a walk-in pantry and a handy breakfast bar with stools. It is open to the bright dining room, which shares a wall of sliders with the living room. The gas fireplace and stunning lake views can be viewed from all three areas. The upper deck just outside is very large, with a big gas grill for your use, a large rectangular glass-top table seating eight, and a smaller table for extra guests or food prep. A large main floor laundry leads from the spacious master bedroom (king bed) into the two-room Jack-n-Jill bathroom and back onto the hall. The home was completely redecorated in 2010 with spunky vintage furniture, fresh linens and all but one new mattress; everything is kept sparkling clean by family caretakers. Basic cable TV and cable internet are provided. The white-panelled walls give the entire home a fresh and airy cottage feeling.

DOWNSTAIRS - The cheerful guest bedroom (queen bed) and nautical 'bunkroom' (sleeping 4) share another full bathroom. A huge recreation area (classic This End Up pullout sofas / games / books/ entertainment center) spans the entire basement lakeside, where two sliders open onto a cement patio just steps from the lake. All bedrooms feature large closets and a vintage chest or dresser for storage...A baby crib and highchair are available on the premises also.

OUTSIDE - Large oak trees frame the street-side of the home, dappling the bedrooms with shade. A green lawn slopes gradually around the house to a flat grassy area between the house and lake. There's additional room to play thanks to the community greenspace lot next door. We have 60 ft of private, sandy-bottomed frontage; a dock, fire pit, and pedal boat; and a wonderful sandy mini-beach with no seawall (perfect for little ones!). We enjoy views of both the sunrise and the sunset. An attached garage offers plenty of storage. We have a ski boat for you to rent as well!

DON'T FORGET TO CLICK ON OUR BLOG LINK (BELOW RATES) FOR MANY MORE PHOTOS!!!

RESORT AMENITIES - Canadian Lakes is the largest recreation/resort/residential property in Michigan featuring the best in lakeside living and golf. Enjoy over 735 acres of lakes and ponds (340 of which are connected all-sports lakes); 2000 acres of dedicated green space; three members-only (and you, as our guest!) golf courses as well as the world-class Tullymore and St. Ives courses! Members and their guests also enjoy an airstrip, a campground, 3 children's playgrounds, 8 tennis courts, 2 basketball courts, 1 baseball diamond, shuffleboard, horseshoes, indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness center, multiple parks and 4 huge sandy beaches...our community even boasts a castle! We are a 2 minute walk from the largest beach (we have a volleyball net), and about 5 from the nearest tennis courts! All 5 golf courses are within minutes! This is a beautiful area for bikes and strollers, so bring yours along! Day passes are available for purchase at the fitness center and pools (just $3 for unlimited 1-day access to all three). Guest rates will apply at the CLPOC golf courses. You will be provided with a guest pass and a driving pass to the resort.

THE LAKES - Our home is on the 240-acre all-sports Main Canadian Lake, which connects to the 100-acre all-sports West Canadian, as well as two other small no-wake lakes which beg exploration - you'll enjoy a good workout in the pedal boat! Hundreds of cottages surround the main lakes, but quiet fishing spots abound. Lakes are members-only which means that only boats owned by property owners may be on the lake - you can rent ours! We have a mint condition 1994 17' open-bow Starcraft Fish'n'Ski with a 90hp Mariner outboard, complete with fishing chair and trolling motor...perfect for fishing, skiing, and tubing all day (see blog for more info). It's also perfect for a slow drive up the channel to get ice cream or groceries, or perhaps enjoy dinner at the Grill...Pontoon rentals are also available on the lakes from Lakeside Motor Sports in Mecosta. Fishing is a favorite pastime on the lakes - they are well-stocked but catch-n-release only. You can catch bass right off the dock and seawall!

NEARBY AMENITIES - You'll lack nothing thanks to the Country Corner five minutes away - there you will find a gas station, a convenience store, a full-size grocery store, a pizza parlor, a family restaurant, a fishing license office, the post office, several banks, two health centers, a beauty parlor, a fudge shop, a flower shop, a video store, and our favorite haunt, Ace Hardware (marshmallows, bait...). The Royal, St. Ives and Tullymore golf courses also have their own restaurants, and mini-golf (great ice cream!) and riding lessons are just a few minutes further.

Canadian Lakes is the perfect location to vacation. We love our new lake house and enjoyed turning it into a bright and cheery guest home for all to enjoy. We look forward to cherishing many memories here with our own family and friends, and are thankful for quality renters who make this dream possible for us. We hope that you will enjoy our cottage as much as we already do, and that you will return to it each summer.

About Bethany Den Hartog

We are a middle-aged (I can't believe I just wrote that!) married couple with young children. Because most of our family and many of our friends live in Michigan, we vacation here every summer. We have finally found the perfect rental cottage to call our own, and hope that your family will enjoy it as much as ours does! Our cottage is lovingly maintained by my family and by a local property manager - we remain very active in the cottage on a daily basis, and appreciate your feedback.

Bethany Den Hartog purchased this house in 2010

Why Bethany Den Hartog chose Canadian Lakes

Ever since our realtor brother introduced us to Canadian Lakes, we dreamed of buying a cottage here. The lakes are beautiful, surrounded by quaint smaller cottages and larger newer ones; the area is very well maintained. The combination of all-sports and quiet lakes is fantastic - plenty of room to boat, ski, fish, canoe...whatever you're in the mood for. But what really sold us on the area was the amenities it offers to us as owners and you as our guests - world class golf, tennis, basketball, baseball, shuffleboard, horseshoes, parks with playgrounds, huge sandy beaches, large public green spaces, indoor and outdoor pools, a workout center...there's no end of things to do! That and the fact that gas, groceries, ice cream and mini-golf are less than five minutes away makes Canadian Lakes just about perfect. It's a wonderful, relaxing place for people of all ages!

What makes this house unique

The best feature of the house is its close proximity to the water. The sound of the waves lapping on the seawall is so soothing, and watching the boats and the fish while eating lunch on the deck definitely puts us in vacation mode. We also love the fact that we can see the kids in the water at all times, and that we have our own little beach to build sandcastles in. The large lawn and the open public greenspace next door offer lots of room for kids to run around, and contribute to a feeling of spaciousness - we don't feel cramped by neighbors! We love the all-white panelled walls and the wall to wall sliders upstairs and down - the house is always bright and airy inside, with fantastic water views. We enjoy the fact that the kids can rule the recroom while the adults relax upstairs with the fire or a good book. And as a mom I am so thankful for the main floor laundry and the big garage to stash all the water toys and life jackets.

The Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5
We rented the cottage for three days in October to relax and it was everything we expected and more! Between the overview on this site and the email conversations with Bethany, we were completely satisfied with our experience!

It was immediately evident that the cottage was cared for. Everything was clean and looked fresh, even though we know guests had left not long before we got there. The amount of care that went into making the guest experience great was amazing - there was nothing we looked for that we couldn't find! The accurate description of the cottage proves the attention to detail that the owners have, and the binders and other area info on the tables were more than sufficient to fill a week's worth of time, let alone three short days.

The bedrooms were immaculate, and our son enjoyed sleeping in a bunk bed! We knew the cottage came equipped with a crib and high chair, which gave us more room in the SUV for other fun stuff! Maybe the best part of the trip was simply sitting in the chair facing the lake with the fireplace going just staring at the colors and the silent tranquility absent from our daily lives...

We drew a bit of bad luck on the weather, as it rained almost the entire time we were there, but that didn't stop us from exploring the area. The fall colors were absolutely beautiful and we drove through several Amish villages during our day trips. Everyone was so friendly and helpful... we really didn't want to go home!

We had dinner Monday night down the street at Antler's, and the "build your own mac-n-cheese" coupled with a Michigan-brewed beer hit the spot! Wednesday night included a stop at the Corner Sweet Shop for sandwiches and ice cream, but otherwise we ate our meals in the cottage. There is a grocery store extremely close for most everything you need, and you can find a Meijer, Walmart, and other stores in Big Rapids, which is less than a half hour away. The cottage is fully-equipped to handle any meal regardless of size.

There isn't enough room here to describe all the positives with renting this cottage, but the icing on the cake was the attentiveness of Bethany! We really appreciate how pleasant and helpful she was, even answering a question by email during our stay! We would most certainly recommend the cottage for anyone looking for a beautiful view from a place that has everything you need, while having more than enough activities to keep everyone as busy as they want to be! We'll be back!

Wonderfully Relaxing Atmosphere with Attention to Details

  • 5 of 5
We were very happy to find the Blue Cottage for our family vacation this summer. We chose the cottage because of the many beautiful photos and detailed descriptions online and we were not disappointed. We arrived to find an immaculately cleaned and tastefully decorated cottage that was fully equipped for a week at the lake. My husband, children, and I enjoyed swimming in the lake, tubing, catching fish off the dock, and using the paddle boat. Bethany was attentive and incredibly quick to respond to our questions and concerns. I would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone who is looking for a relaxing family environment.

Beautiful and Relaxing!

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful 4 days at the Blue Cottage! Everything was so amazingly clean and fresh, and they supplied so many extra supplies which was great. Our kids loved the sand and the wading area. The fishing was great and everyone got the experience of catching one! It was so relaxing to just look out any window and see the beautiful lake. The lower level of the cottage was a bit chilly for our family but I'm sure in the heat of summer it would be fine. The sunsets were amazing too. The kids had a blast on the paddleboat and the firepit was great! Owners are great to work with and very informative. You can tell they love their cottage. We are thankful they shared it with us!

Owner's Response: So happy the May weather cooperated! We love to hear that you enjoyed the same things about the cottage as we do...it really is very family friendly! The AC does cause the basement to be a bit on the cool side in early summer. We usually shut all the registers downstairs for that very reason. We opened them to dry out the carpets after the cleaners and forgot to close them for you...so sorry! We'll take care of that right away!

Great cottage for two families!

  • 5 of 5
What a great way to start the summer! Thanks to the owners for all of the great lists provided with the cottage amenities, along with the "what you should bring" list. It was very helpful. This cottage was very clean and updated. The beds were very comfortable. The location on the lake was perfect-close to the large beach where the kids could play. We enjoyed playing cards on the deck while the kids caught fish off the dock and used the paddleboat to tool around in. The two living spaces were ideal for our two families (4 adults, 6 kids ages6-11). Kids could watch a movie downstairs, while we watched out show upstairs. Note: lower level tv is basic cable only-not many kid channels, so bring your DVD's. Upper tv is HD-great for watching Tiger Baseball! We brought the bikes for the kids which was great as well - they could ride over to the nearby tennis courts or just around the community. At night we enjoyed roasting s'mores around the fire. We were only there for the 4 day Memorial weekend, but enjoyed every relaxing moment! We would definitely return.

The beautiful Canadian Lakes

  • 5 of 5
My family has rented the Blue Cottage the past two summers. We enjoyed our first trip so much that we doubled our vacation to two weeks this year. The cottage has everything you need and is located in a great area of the lakes. The beds are very comfortable and the cottage is CLEAN. There are two entertainment areas along with a patio and a deck so there is ample room for entertaining. The Main Lake is fantastic for boating and tubing so I highly recommend renting the boat. Exploring the lakes on the no wake Thursday was a BLAST. 7.5 in. My wife and I are from MI and both grew up with vacations on an inland lake. Renting the Blue Cottage helped my wife and I show our 3 sons just how awesome a MI summer can be. They can't wait to go back.

I can't say enough positive things about Bethany and Calvin. They truly care about the Blue Cottage and your experience. The Blue Cottage is 5 stars for a Michigan lake rental experience.

family reunion

  • 5 of 5
We spent a week for our family reunion. The house was very nicely furnished and immaculate. We had everything we needed . The lake was beautiful, nice swimming especially having little ones the shallow area was great, very quiet lake. The deck views were awesome. The multiple golf courses were really enjoyed by the golfers in our family. We enjoyed the local restaurant and little boutique shop up at the corner. We also took a drive to Amish country close by and purchased some wonderful fresh veggies and homemade baked goodies as well.
