Perfect little rental and Paia is wonderful!

  • 5 of 5
Adorable condo in great complex. 1 minute drive to town but coffee shop small grocery store next door. Everything you need is provided and Martha is great. Mama's Fish House is next door. snorkeling beach is right outside complex. Great to get away from the tourist hotels in Lahaina. Having laundry right there with kids is helpful. I adore Paia. We noticed no noise from the Hana Hwy at all the entire time. Make sure you get the back gate code to go to the beach. It just changed. We would come back for sure. My kids loved it too and felt like they lived in Paia, saying it was the best part of the trip and beat the Hyatt and Sheraton on Kaanapali.

Wonderous stay on Maui!

  • 5 of 5
This condo was fantastic! It had everything we needed for a wonderful month on Maui! The owner was so cooperative and nice to deal with. We felt positive even before we got there. We'd definitely recommend this, and we'd definitely stay here again in the future! At age 59, we felt very comfortable here, although you do have to be able to climb stairs to the 3rd floor.

A sweet stay in a wonderful location

  • 5 of 5
We so enjoyed our time in Maui, and were very happy with our little home (condo) in Paia. We could easily walk to a lovely beach, and in minutes, get to the town of Paia -- a friendly, funky, down-to-earth place full of great (and healthy!) food, shopping (Mana Foods was amazing!) and all-around energy. (Paia was a particularly good fit for us, a family from Berkeley, CA, wanting to base ourselves in a less touristy part of Maui.) The view from the lanai was lovely; the winds were magical; and a wild parrot regularly visited us, which we loved! The condo was both reasonably priced and comfortable. We had everything we needed for a simple stay, and the owners were extremely kind and helpful. Given Maui's size and our rental car, it was super easy to get around the island. So we got to partake in all of the wonderful beaches, beautiful & historical sites that we wanted. Over all, we couldn't be happier. (Note: Given the condo's closeness to Hana Highway, and the possibility that the Maui winds might be at their best, a particularly sound sensitive person might have difficulty sleeping. It wasn't an issue for us.)

Almost got it right.

  • 2 of 5
Well, I hate writing a bad review, but I have to say a few things about our visit. First of all, the owner contacted me right away. She was friendly, proactive and before I got to Maui I felt like I was dealing with someone I could trust. booking and payment went smoothly.

My travel partner and I arrived at the unit Wednesday evening, ready to crash. We climbed the stairs with our luggage, opened the lockbox, pulled out the keys, and the deadbolt was stuck. I'm a handy guy, and I tried and tried to get it to open. We drug our luggage back down the stairs and sat in the car. I called the owners and no answer. I decided to go give it one more try and with some REAL jiggling, I finally got it to open. We dragged our bags back upstairs and got settled an hour after arriving.

The living room and adjoining lanai are great; plenty of room and a distant but real view of the ocean through the palms, a big grassy yard, ocean breezes. Kitchen and bath were clean and neat. I felt relieved and happy that we chose this place. We went to bed.

At 5:30 am, I was awoken by the sound of traffic. We had the windows open to allow the breeze, and we were hearing the delivery drivers heading to Haiku and Hana. It was loud. Loud enough that after 30 minutes or so, we just got up and made coffee. The bedroom faces the highway and is separated only by the parking lot. Even with windows closed this is not a place to stay if you're a light sleeper.

Getting to our car, I remembered that we had a specific parking spot, which I forgot about with all the door lock drama the night before. Yes, I was in the wrong spot (in a nearly empty lot) and was greeted with a giant 5x7 orange warning sticker stuck to the drivers side windshield. Not the kind that peels off easily, the kind that requires driving to town to by a razor blade to remove. What a nasty way to start the day.

OK, one last thing: the sheets on the bed were SO OLD that they were "pilled"- lots of rough little bumps all over them. They felt like they were purchased at a garage sale or at KMart 25 years ago. I don't need to sleep on 1000 count Egyptian Cotten, but it was really unacceptable. The devil's in the details and they almost get it right. Overall, I have to say that both my companion and I were dissappoionted.

Owner's Response: Aloha,
I have had many communications with guest. He has actually tried to remove this review with no luck. The sheets were back ups left by a month long renter and have been thrown away. I too am linen sensitive and can understand that part. We live there during the year and have very nice linen and towels. He was a last minute check in - after a this monther and my gal used them as all others were at laundry. I can not speak of the lock situation - never has happened before or after. Yes if you park in someone's spot they tag car. I texted him spot number 3 times.
The traffic comes with Hana Hwy. If you live in 5 million dollar house or 100.00 a night condo - still same traffic. We feel the price we ask takes this into consideration.
This guest is actually very nice man - we have had many conversations -and I know he felt bad about review and tried to remove it.

Exactly as described

We had a wonderful time, and Martha the owner is great to communicate with. Wear earplugs to sleep, and you will not be bothered by the heavy highway traffic noise. The bed is comfy. The place is nicely kept, other than sandy shower drains, but no big deal! They have taken good care of their unit.
We like stairs, so the 3rd floor placement was good for us, but not for those who don't like climbing stairs in the heat. The neighbors are friendly.

December in Paia

  • 4 of 5
This was a great time in Paia, even if it has been discovered. The condo was as pictured except that it is on the third floor with no elevator. It was great for two adults and it needs some TLC. It is walking distance to town but with the highway traffic I wouldn't recommend it. Mama's Fish House was outstanding and that was very convenient to walk to. If you are a light sleeper the highway slows down at about 10pm and starts up again at about 5:30am. The family room is pretty quiet though. All in all it is a nice place and my husband and I would go back. Martha is very easy to work with. Aloha!

Owner's Response: Aloha,
We agree the outside of our building could use some TLC...it was built in the 60s and the outside hasn't been updated also the cane field behind combined with rain and wind makes a brown cast on building.
There is some highway noise as noted -
We hope to see you again sometime thank you for positive review.
