Photos and Description of the New Orleans vacation apartment rental
1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, sleeps 2

We have the perfect solution to noisy, impersonal hotel rooms. Stay with us in our detached 2nd story 'Lofty Oasis' behind our main house and experience the charm of New Orleans from a 'Local's Perspective'.

***This Unit Will Be Exclusively Yours With Your Own Private Courtyard***

Surrounded by lush, vibrant foliage begin your day in the Big Easy with your morning coffee and newspaper to the sweet scent of jasmine and the gentle chirping of the many species of local birds.

Close enough to all the action while being peacefully quiet. The Lofty New Orleans Oasis is set back over 140 feet from the street! Private, Well-Lit, Secure Entrance. Free On-Street Parking in Front of Our Main House.

We are located 1/2 Block from the French Quarter in the historic Bend of Bourbon in the Marigny Triangle! Enjoy live traditional Jazz and excellent cuisine on Frenchmen Street only 2 blocks away.

Cancellation Policy: For non-event reservations, a 14-day notice is required. A 30-day notice is required for special events, holidays, and festivals. If less notice is given and the room is re-booked, a refund is gladly issued.

Begin your morning or evening “Al Fresco” on our front porch lit by an authentic overhead gas lantern as the mule drawn carriages saunter and 'clip, clop' on our street which once carried the famous “Street Car Named Desire”. Or, if you prefer, relish the privacy of our tropical rear courtyard.

Famous restaurants and watering holes, live music, shopping, art galleries, museums, antique shops, Jackson Square and the Moon Walk on the levee of the Mississippi River for a ride on the authentic paddle wheel Steam Boat Natchez are just a few short blocks away.

The cultural love child of genteel old Europe, the exotic Caribbean and the sultry South, New Orleans' original colonial neighborhood sets the scene for memorable romantic getaways. This is a city that revels in its passions, and for the visitor with an open heart the sensuality here can be infectious. It is also a city where people come to celebrate, whether by joining the massive public exuberance of Mardi Gras and other events or marking personal milestones in the lives of lovers, such as honeymoons and anniversaries. When a couple raises a glass in toast to each other, it can seem as though the entire town is following suit here.

Part of the appeal of New Orleans is its relaxed pace - a key ingredient to any romantic experience - and a leisurely carriage ride for two is a romantic way to get acquainted with the neighborhood at the beginning of a visit. Various types of mule-drawn carriages are available for hire at Jackson Square on Decatur Street. Carriage drivers generally narrate their tours of the Quarter with stories of various landmark properties, but just let him or her know at the start that you prefer to concentrate on your companion's company and you will have a serene cruise past the beautiful architecture and colorful street-scapes of the Vieux Carré. Snuggle under a blanket on the occasional chilly evening or bask in the tropical sunshine during another beautiful New Orleans day.

Honeymoon

My wife and I decided to spend the first few days of our honeymoon exploring New Orleans. All the hotels that we saw were either out of our price range or too far away, so we jumped at the opportunity stay at Carol's place when we saw it on Homeaway.com.

The location and accomodations were literally exactly what we were looking for. It's in a great, safe neighborhood, and the route from the house to the heart of Bourbon street was quick, easy and direct (which is especially helpful at the end of a long night in the French Quarter...). Frenchman's street is just as convenient and even closer if you are looking to experience the more "cultural" (i.e. arts and music scene) side of New Orleans. The room isn't exactly palatial, but it's comfortable, clean, quiet, very private, and in all ways, as much as you will need. With as much as New Orleans has to offer, you shouldn't be spending that much time in the room anyway.

Since there is so much to see, do, and (most importantly) eat in this city, having a knowledgeable resource like Carol was invaluable. She knew exactly what to recommend based on what we wanted to do. I felt like I had done my homework before we got there and that we knew all the places we wanted to go, but Carol directed us to a few other places that I hadn't found (and steered us away from the tourist traps), and that definitely enhanced the trip.

This was our first trip to New Orleans, and we decided on the first night that it would not be our last. We will definitely be staying at Carol's Oasis again.

Perfect location, nice and quiet

Carol was extremely nice and knows her city. She was full of tips on where to eat and how to avoid the crowds or find the chaos if that is what you want. The space isn't big but its clean and has everything you need. The best part of this apartment is that you can walk to everything! Close to Bourbon st without the noise and chaos.

Do yourself a favor and make the trip out to Bacchinal - great wine bar, live music, and excellent small plate food - our favorite part! Having a drink on the balcony of Muriels was a highlight and recommendation of Carols'. If you want to take a swam tour- go Cajun Encounters - it was great. It was a great short trip and we will certainly be back to New Orleans. We would stay here again.

Jazz Fest

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at the apartment for 5 days during the first week of the Jazz Fest. It is truly located in a perfect location for enjoying New Orleans. If you walk strait up Burbon Street and go about 4 more blocks you are right at the house. One reviewer mentioned Frenchman St. also. If you truly want an experience of the old New Orleans go there where the young jazz groups play and great restaurants that are affordable. Carol knows the area well and can give you great tips, just ask her.

Yes the room is small but big enough for two people. We are used to a King bed so it was challenging to sleep on the bed so we learned to turn in unison. If you are there for the first time take the city tour to see what sites you want to go back to. We learned to take the street cars (not trolly) from the MInt and it goes right down town and then you can change from the red line to the blue or other lines. For me two days of the French Quarter was enough. We visited the museum and saw the sculpture garden since the museum is closed on Monday. The WWII museum was the best I have ever seen. Some of my family was at D Day and was one of the men who had jumped behind the lines. It was so meaningful to listen to their stories. There is also a little neighborhood bar around the corner with some interesting people and a few dogs (real dogs) Thanks Carol for not raising the cost during the Jazz Fest as other places seem to do.

Owner's Response: Thanks for a great review. I would like to clarify one thing. Our home is located in the famous Bend of Bourbon in the Marigny Triangle. It is 1/2 block from Esplanade Avenue. When you cross Esplanade Avenue you enter the French Quarter.

So that being said....we are not 4 blocks from the French Quarter.

Misleading property. Property is a very small studio not a 1 bedroom, with a full size bed.

My girlfriend and I chose this place because of its location and claims in the property. I have had good experiences with VRBO before so I decided to go with this again. The property is essentially a shack atop the owner's back shed. Ceiling height no more than 7 1/2 feet. The bed boasting premium bedding was a farce as it was old and beyond premium. The bed is only a full size bed, not a queen. I know because I sleep on a queen.

Halfway through the trip friends came into town, got an upgrade at a hotel and asked if we would like to join. We jumped all over it and left 3 days early. We told the owner and left, leaving the unit relatively untouched, with some empty cans of beer neatly placed on the dresser (no trash bin in the unit). We got a call a day later about a missing sheet. I had mistakenly packed a sheet in my bag. We had gone to a park and was going to use one of the bed sheets to lay on. We never used it as we stayed on a park bench instead of the grass. I forgot when we left it was in my backpack. We returned the old sheet (again far from premium as listed) and thought we were done with it.

When weeks passed and she didn't return the security deposit, or respond to emails, I called. I was polite on the phone and asked if she has sent the security deposit out. She immediately said no, because we took her sheets and had to ask for them back (which we did immediately), hung up, Blocked my number and refused to speak further.

You get what you pay for here folks.
Owner's Response: Ok....Let's start at the beginning:

1. The guests knocked on my front door at dinner time Easter Saturday and said their friend had gotten an upgrade and they were going to stay with them. She could NOT look me in the eye. (first red flag) I was on my way out to dinner and didn't get home till late. I did not check the apartment until Easter Sunday Morning.

2. Here's what I found Easter Sunday Morning: Beer bottles everywhere, coffee in styrofoam cups, garbage everywhere. Coffee spilled all over the table tops. The comforter, blanket and six pillows were covering the bed.....the Queen bed.

3. I pulled back the comforter and blanket......NO SHEETS on the bed!
I txtd the guest asking where the sheets were. His response via txt:"We ACCIDENTLY packed them". WHAT???!!! How do you accidently pack a flat and fitted sheet into a back pack??!! He said he would return them. He only returned the flat sheet late Easter Sunday afternoon.

For the record, the sheets are premium linens with eyelet and scalloped edges. The apartment is not a "SHACK" as the guest says. It is a 2nd story detached unit behind my main house, immaculately clean. Some call these units "Slave Quarters". I prefer not to. My property description listed it as a "Dependency Unit" because it depends on the main house.

The guest called me on 4/19 and asked when he would be receiving his Damage Deposit. I told him he wasn't getting it back because he took my sheets and only returned one.

Now comes the excuses: The guest said they took the sheets to sit on in the park. WHAT???!! How do you take sheets from a bed to sit on in a park??!!!....Now remember, he had already checked out. And he said he returned "the sheet". Well what about the other one?....now the set is incomplete. I told him again he wasn't getting his money back, the conversation was over and said goodbye. Guess what folks.....what he did equals....taking what doesn't belong to you... and I don't reward bad behavior.

I received 2 more phone calls which I let go to voicemail and another txt message. Now the story changes again......the sheets, according to the guest, were not used on the grass at the park....they sat on a bench.. Irrelevant......you took my sheets and had already checked out! He threatened, in a voicemail to write a bad review....

I blocked him on my cell phone first....then received an email.....then blocked him there also.

Enough said.

My husband and I spent 6 nights at this wonderful little place. Tucked away, just off the quiet street, we had a great experience with this clean, well-kept loft. It is a short distance from Bourbon Street and an easy walk to any place in the French Quarter. The owner, Carol, was very helpful, from the time of our reservation, until the end of our visit. The restaurant recommendations were spot on. This was our first visit to New Orleans. We fell in love and can't wait to go back.
