Cluttered and Not Very Clean

We stayed at this condo for almost one week. The location of the condo on the properety is excellent - close to the dock and pool, as advertised and it is a decent fishing lake. The inside of the condo was stuffed to the gills with the owners' personal items. The closets were all full, there were personal toiletries in the bathroom, there were no empty dresser drawers to unpack our own belongings and it felt very, very lived in. The kitchen was not clean and I had to wipe down both the countertop and the stove before I felt like I could use it. The owner told us that we could use anything on the property, which was nice, but we could have easily lived without all of the excessive personal belongings. We have rented several lake places in the past and all have been appropriately furnished with the necessary kitchen utensils and appliances. I got the impression that this really is not a rental unit and more of a second home for the owners.
Rowley, the owner, was very friendly and helpful throughout the week. We called him several times to get tips on the lake and with other questions. Getting there is also very easy from the twin cities.
I would stay at this complex again because of the location and fishing, but I would not stay in this particular condo.
Owner's Response: After renting for 10 years, this would be our 1st negative review. The toiletries are for your use, in case you forget something. The closets have lots of games and toys in the event that you have a rainy day. In the closets, you will also find life jackets, fishing poles, pool toys, skis, wake board, and a deflated innertube for boating in case you have a boat. Other than that, there are extra bed sheets and blankets and towels in case you should need them. We only have one dresser which has a couple of decorative items that can be easily pulled out. We provide everything you could need and want for fun and have never had anything but rave comments/notes left in our condo, thanking us for everything! This review is very unexpected and doesn't seem justified at all. What we enjoy is surprising people with an awesome vacation. We will assess what we have in our closets and pull out anything that is not needed. Overall, our place is not fancy, but very comfortable and fun! Where else can you have a good fishing lake, a pool for the kids, a play ground area, fun towns to explore nearby, and a comfortable and fun place to stay?
