Photos and Description of the Harstine Island vacation house rental
3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, sleeps 9 plus fold outs sleep 4 in living room

We have a full wrap around deck so close to the water it feels like you are floating. We are in a rural area, so it's relaxing and quiet. There are plenty of DVDs, and lots of games. The Puget Sound is located in Washington State. It is cold ocean water, with low and high tides, but no crashing surf. Our beach is wide and open with lots of sand, and plenty of pretty treasures for beach combing. We are close to several towns if someone wants to do shopping, antiquing, go out to eat or to a movie. There are several state parks nearby to hike or pic-nick. Seattle and Olympia are close enough to do a day trip. We occasionally hear sea lions at night and seals are a common sight. One group also saw a pod of three Orcas in September. PLEASE NOTE: we are NOT handicapped accessible.

Wild Life: This section of the Puget Sound has abundant sea life including otter, sea lions, frequent sightings of seals, at least five species of colorful sea stars, Red Box crab, and two types of jellyfish. There are moon snail, several varieties of clams that range from smaller than a dime to more than 8 inches across, and whelks. You will find lots of shells. We also have a nearby area that live sand dollars grow. A bald eagle often flies in front of the cabin; gulls, herons, ducks, cormorants, and other birds are common sights. We have had multiple sightings of a pair of dolphins, and reports of hearing whale spoutings during the night!

Parking and Accessibility: We have a large parking space that can hold at least 5 cars, or several RV's. We do NOT have electrical hookup or a dump station. This house is NOT handicapped accessible because the parking lot is at the top of the hill, and there are TWO long flights of stairs connected by concrete pathway to get down to the house on the beach. We have tried to include many of your necessities to enable you to pack light.

Electronics and Entertainment: Our beach house has a DVD player in the living room and in the master bedroom. We keep a large collection of DVDs but there is NO Internet service.There is no TV service, or cable either. Cell phone service (both phone and data) are subject to the whims of the cell phone gods... sometimes we get AT&T, sometimes Verizon, and usually Cricket. I'm not sure of the others. We have some games, cards and puzzles, and the lending book library is on the small size for now but growing.

We are located on rural Harstine Island, not far from Shelton, WA. Our house is on the beach, with smooth sand, plentiful shells, beautiful beach pebbles, colorful sea stars, and lots of wildlife. To take advantage of the great views, our living room/dining room 'great room' has a wall of windows looking east with a large deck wrapping around three sides of the house. Bring your fishing pole, or take a nap on our hammock. We also have a hammock-swing that's a great favorite with kids of all ages. Have a sand castle-building contest. Bring your bikes, or hike in one of the nearby state parks. Poke around a local plant nursery, or visit our area's resident pottery artist. Enjoy antiquing in Shelton, or going to the movies at the modern cinema or the drive-in movie. There is plenty to keep busy, or just relax and let your cares dissolve at our peaceful island retreat.

Golf: We are North of Shelton, and Shelton Bayshore course is closest at 17 miles, and has a good rating. Here is their website:

Notes: Beware, we are located on the beach, access to the house is down SEVERAL flights of stairs from the parking lot. There are also small flights of stairs in the house from one level to another. Please consider this before you rent! I suggest you pack light, to minimize trips to and from the car. Cell phone service is patchy and unpredictable (now you see it-now you don't!) Jen-Air cook top has SIX electric burners! There is electric grill and/or a griddle replacement for two pairs of burners. Allergen info: We allow dogs. We use low-VOC, fragrance free products wherever possible. We strive to use only environmentally safe cleaning products. Common plants are: madrone and fir trees, salal, evergreen huckleberries (the blue kind), some alder trees, a large laurel bush, and poison oak-but only if you go through the brush.

Thanks very much! The home was great. Minor glitch in the cleaning that was fixed in a timely fashion, and the owners were very responsive. We loved the walk out basement that is right on the beach! The home was exactly as described and we'd recommend this as a very secluded private home with a tremendous view. It is a place to get away from our very fast paced lives!

Great Family Getaway

My family, my sisters family and my parents had the opportunity to stay here for 5 days. We spent most of the time on the deck, talking, watching the water and relaxing. The kids (ages 8-1) had a wonderful time playing on the beach in the sandy part and also in the rockier parts looking for little crabs and other little creatures. The kids were never board or short on fun stuff to do at the cabin. There was plenty of room for everyone. During meal times we managed to get everyone at the table which was a tight squeeze but possible. We saw a seal that would bob its head up everyday, he was fun to watch out for. We saw bald eagles and saw one swoop up a fish! There was lots of creatures at low tide, and lots of books at the cabin to try to figure out what you saw.
The listing description of the cabin is pretty accurate so make sure to know the details. The stairs are steep just as described bringing your stuff up and down is a workout! We also had NO cell service down at the house but up by the cars we could make calls. The area is remote so don't plan on doing much else unless you want to drive 10-20 miles, which was perfect for us.

Elisa was great to work with and very gave very detailed information which was very helpful. I would defiantly recommend this property to others.

Great Family reunion

Our whole family enjoyed the beautiful beach and the comfortable beds. The stairs to get to the cabin were a challenge for the older members of the family, however the younger ones were happy to tote everything down and back up again. I would recommend this house to anyone who wants a quite, comfortable beach experience.

Already talking about the return trip!!!

There were 10 of us at the house, 4 kids and 6 adults. It was very spacious and did not feel crowded. The views were breath taking off the huge deck and from the beach. You can walk out the back door to the ocean in 10 steps (when the tide is high). There was plenty of sea life to keep the kids busy, we saw star fish, crabs, sharks, a couple of otters and jelly fish!! The house had most everything we needed to have a week of relaxation. If you wanted to venture out of the house (which we did a couple of days) Seattle is about 1 1/2 hours away, or there are many cool places to visit like the wetlands about 15 minutes from the house. The house is a little older but is taken care of. As I said in the title we are already talking about going back next year!!!!
