This listing is true to its description and the well-equipped cabin was comfy and clean and awaiting us like a lost friend. This is our fifth year returning, so that is a testimonial unto itself! There is always a new trail to hike, a new breathtaking view to experience, incredibly delicious lobsters (at very low cost) to enjoy, privacy for the spirit, and the pleasure of waking to the scent of balsam fir and salty sea air.... There is nothing like it. This year, we took a ferry from Lubec to artsy Eastport where there was fun shopping and great lobster rolls. We also hiked the Western Head Trail in Cutler, the views from which were extraordinary (and later we found they were featured in Down East Magazine's 60 Most Beautiful Places in Maine article!)The cabin is wonderful for a quiet, (mostly) technology-free stay-cation, but also a nice base from which one can visit many different places of interest. We went as a couple, though the cabin accommodates a family and more. There is something enjoyable for every age. We have already highly recommended this rental and will do so again. We hope to return next year!
What an amazing place. At night we had the windows open to experience the cool breeze coming in off the ocean. Along with the breeze came the smell of the salt water and the sound of the ocean. One of our favorite things was waiting for the tide to come and go. At low tide we were on the beach waiting to see if the tide had brought us treasures. The owners were so easy to deal with and accommodating. I believe if you are in love with the coast and want to stay in a wonderful cottage - this is the place for you! If you love being outside either during the day or at night to see the stars - well this is the place for you! Now I have a new favorite place! My only wish was that we could have stayed longer. See you next year Guard Point!
The site is beautiful. However we ran into problems. It was literally 95 degrees in our bedrooms at night so none of us slept. Yes, we came in during a heat wave but fans upstairs would have solved this problem quite easily. We are from Florida so we are no strangers to heat. Also, the back screen was broken, so we had no way to get any breeze downstairs.
Also, one chair in the home tips over backwards easily. Very dangerous! I fell over and hurt my back. And before I was able to warn the rest of my family my son sat in it and wound up with a huge gash in the back of his head.
Definitely not the vacation we were hoping for!
I arrived at Guardpoint on Friday Aug. 3, 2012. Stayed one week with friends, the week was to short. Guardpoint is a place to come and have peace and quiet, just relax-listen to the lobster boats coming and going, listen to the sounds of nature. The outdoors is exquiste with a beautiful lawn and flowers, firepit that many can sit around in the evening. A private beach to walk to-just a few feet from the cottage. Plus the view is just spectacular!! The cottage is perfect for one family to many families without feeling cramped into a small space-lots of space to find your own corner. Everything is provided, except food and bathroom items. Clean bedlinens, towels even beach towels, and everything to cook with from the lobster pot to the outdoor grill. Everything was very very clean!!(in my book that is a real plus). The owners are wonderful people they will provide you with any information that you might need, very helpful. For those who must have there is wii and TV, but I really think one could do without in order to enjoy the peaceful and beauty of Guardpoint. I certainly hope someday I will be able to return and enjoy the beauty of Guardpoint! I would recommend Guardpoint to all my friends and family.
We have now vacationed at this place for two years and we plan to return again. It is a lovely cottage home situated in a private, peaceful cove which on clear days has unimpeded views of the Atlantic. The property is well-maintained, beautifully landscaped, clean and has many amenities. We not only recommended the property to friends and relatives, but invited them to share our time with us,which they did last year. You can stay at the house and enjoy the view and the air, go swimming, sunning, beachcombing. Nearby there are wonderful hiking opportunities with woodland paths that break open to rocky expanses of beach. Birds are abundant. If you are lucky you might see a seal or two. In the area there are historic towns and islands to explore, and Acadia is a great day trip, too. There are boat tours of the with puffins and other sea life to view. If you are looking for nightlife, five-star restaurants and that sort of thing, you might be disappointed! If you don't mind grilling your own food, or popping locally-caught lobster into a pot, playing your own music on a guitar or listening to CD's, then this is a great way to discover the unspoiled beauty of Maine. One week provides a great taste of the place, but if you can manage two, you will carry away refreshment that will last the year. Best vacation ever!!
