Overview

Chicago Estate Rental Photos and Description

Epic historic home, 1-6 BRs, 5 Baths, (Sleeps 2-12), Especially for Art Lovers

Enjoy Chicago as “patrons of the arts” in the famous Florsheim Mansion for the Arts B&B in Chicago's Gold Coast at 1328 N. State Parkway. One of the most architecturally significant homes in Chicago, the Florsheim Mansion for the Arts is a perfect destination for families or groups.

The historic residence actually has two houses: the Main House and the Guest House which can be rented separately.

The Main House has 3 BR/3B and a den (6 or 7 total beds), the Guest House has 2BR/2B (2 or 3 total beds), and both can be rented together for a total of 5BR/5B + den with sofa bed.

During weekdays (Mon-Thurs), and during the winter months, the Main House and the Guest House can be rented separately.

The Main House entrance features a small guest bedroom with 2 full beds and full bath/shower, as well as a large den/office with fireplace and a pull-out queen size couch for 2. Upstairs on the 2nd floor is a very large entertaining Living Room with a 7' Steinway Grand Piano and a formal Dining Room. On the third floor is the Master Bedroom with king size bed (can be converted to two full beds) and full bath as well as another guest room with two full size beds (can be combined together) and full bath.

The Guest House features a small bedroom/bath on the 1st floor with 1 or 2 single beds. The 2nd floor includes a massive Great Room/Art Studio with 20' soaring ceilings, large hearth, and a Media Room with flatscreen TV. On the third floor is the Master Bedroom with queen size bed and full bath.

Combined, the Main House and Guest House can comfortably sleep 6-11 people.

In terms of entertaining, art events and concert performances, the Living Room with its Steinway Grand Piano can host 40-50 people and the Great Room/Art Studio + Media Room could easily fit a party of 15-20 more, ideal for conferences or large family gatherings. An outdoor gathering could also be hosted in the Garden. The Garden features a Zen-like Koi and Turtle Pond.

In total, the Mansion is fully furnished with 5 bedrooms + den, 5 bathrooms, high-tech media room, Great Room/Art Studio/Library, living room, dining room, and gardens. Over 5000 square feet of luxurious living space. Located on State Street you are just 2 blocks from the lake, 3 blocks from Michigan Avenue, and 2 blocks from the famous Rush/Division nightlife hub. Parking available and fully pet friendly. Please feel free to visit the Mansion's website, Florsheim Mansion dot com.

The Florsheim Mansion for the Arts has long been an important art destination in Chicago. The home is named after Lillian Florsheim, the shoe empire heiress who was one of the finest sculptors and gala host's of her day. The home was previously owned by the Director of Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art. In recent years the home has been used as an Artist in Residency destination for some of the world's most prestigious artists. The home also hosts numerous philanthropic events focused especially on showcasing the art, culture and music of the Middle East and other areas of conflict around the world. In a unique twist, artists are hosted at the mansion by benefactors from the other side of the conflict. A portion of your vacation rental will be allocated towards these philanthropic activities, as well as the ongoing restoration of the home.

Why The Owner chose Chicago

The Florsheim Mansion is one of our greatest joys. It is possibly the best and most significant house in Chicago's gold coast and it is a great honor to own it. In the tradition of the Mansion, we continue to make the space available to visiting artists, dignitaries, executives, families and groups.

What makes this estate unique

There are three key benefits. First is the location. You are literally steps from Lake Michigan, Chicago's best dining and shopping, the famous Rush Street, Michigan Avenue, etc. Second, this architecturally significant home is perfect for a group of 6-11 people (sleeping) and 10-15 people for small events. And third, is the most charming garden in the city.

A Must Stay

What a great experience and location for this property.....it's absolutely perfect. I had a business trip to Chicago and had a small team of professionals with me and this property was ideal. Centrally located, right next to the lake for morning exercise, very clean and well maintained, and yet had the privacy of a local residence. We loved it!

Lovely home in the heart of the Gold Coast

  • 4 of 5
The mansion was beautiful and well maintained-we were all amazed by the hardwood floors throughout, the contemporary furnishings and the artwork was beautiful! we all wished we had stayed longer- we were only there at night since the weather was perfect and we walked to michigan avenue everyday- the beds were comfortable and the amenities were adequate- Two complaints i had was that we had planned to cook steaks one night and the gas tank was empty and there was no water from the faucet in the main sink in the kitchen. Otherwise it was perfect- One other thing i would like to mention was that Russ was so nice to let us stay a bit longer since our trains didnt leave until the afternoon and because no one else was checking in that day- he was willing to extend our stay for a bit longer.

We were a group of 10 college friends who gathered for a reunion. The estate accommodated us perfectly. We enjoyed all the sites around the city, walked for miles around town. It was a great trip. The Mansion needs a bit of TLC. That said, it did not impede our enjoyment of the property. Our favorite times were spent out on the patio, laughing and gabbing away!

Luxury Living

  • 5 of 5
This house was a wonderful place for our large family to stay for our son's wedding. The location could not be better and there was room for everyone to be together whether inside or out in the garden. Russ was so easy to work with and he made our stay all the better with attention to details and answering our questions and giving recommendations. We did use the available parking for one car but the rest of the family found it easy to get around on foot or public transportation. The neighborhood was charming and safe. The house was clean and had plenty of nice linens available. We would highly recommend this property for a great time in Chicago

Great Location and Unique!

  • 4 of 5
What a unique and fantastic location for this wonderful accommodation in the Gold Coast area. Our group of 10 spent a great time enjoying the spacious, comfortable interiors and setting. We could not have asked for a better place to call home for our charity walk weekend in Chicago. Russ was flexible, helpful and very responsive. The mansion had many interesting rooms, art, quirky spaces, and a great outdoor courtyard where we enjoyed an evening aperitif and breakfast coffee. (Wilbur the turtle made a brief morning appearance and we fed him his special food). The neighborhood is beautiful; just two blocks away are restaurants and grocery stores. We indulge in each. The train stop is a 10 minute walk. Great option for the airport if you are on a budget. The lake is just a handful of blocks away on foot. You do not need a car. This is the place to be for a group gathering and home base in one of the best locations in Chicago.
