About Steve Belden

As a retired contractor I fell in love with and bought the property several years ago. So close to all the attractions, but very far away from the traffic and congestion. This is a natural bay which affords clam digging, mussel picking as well as a much needed rest stop for several migrating bird species.

The Carriage house style was built to afford and lofty view. The simple design was chosen to be easy to live with. Simple, but functional . The property rental allows us to fund our retirement activities as well as let others enjoy Maine the way it really is.

Steve Belden purchased this house in 2007

Why Steve Belden chose Bar Harbor

Private location that is near Maine's best activities and parks. A true natural setting with abundant wildlife. A great place for well behaved pets and children. Our 1/2 miles driveway is quiet and away from roads, traffic and the mass crowds. The surrounding towns here have lots of restaurants, lobster pounds and activities.

If you seek a very crowded town packed with traffic gridlock and people you should choose Bar Harbor. Our guests have many times been to the area before and realize they can have the best of both worlds here.

What makes this house unique

Most are nature lovers seeking peace and quiet in harmony with nature. Close to lots of activities. Close to a small municipal airport for those who fly to the area. Within 5 miles of the hub terminal for the Island Explorer bus system that will take you anywhere in the park or local area ( free )!

Fabulous Vacation!

  • 5 of 5
Our family of 6 had a most enjoyable time in our vacation home. The house is located in a very secluded, quiet area that allowed our family to really explore the surrounding woods. My children particularly loved the path leading to the water. They spent many hours searching for shells and watching birds flying overhead.
The house itself was very spacious, clean and comfortable. The owner clearly takes great care of the property. We couldn't have asked for better accommodations.
Much Thanks and Looking forward to a return visit one day.

Wonderful respite in Maine

  • 5 of 5
If you are looking for a quiet home away from the crowds of Bar Harbor and Acadia NP, then check out this lovely location. Very comfortable coastal home nestled among the trees. Beautiful full length deck just off the large glassed living room overlooking an inlet through the trees.

Maine Vacation

  • 4 of 5
This was a very nice vacation home. Clean and well stocked. Loved that each room had its own shower. Well maintained and very private. Our walk down to the water was a rough path with a nice little stream. Met a local man that was clamming. He was very friendly and informative. The owner was great. Pleasant and fast to answer my emails. A short drive to Acadia and a few State Parks. Our favorite part was that 5 or 6 miles down the road was " The Best Damn Lobstah". On Buttermilk Rd. Mary Beth was great and cooked us Lobster for a great price. About a quarter of the price the tourist places were charging. Jensen;s in Ellsworth was also a good place to eat. Tidal Falls was a great find. Found starfish that I was hoping to see.

Oceanfront home-Lamoine

  • 5 of 5
Our family enjoyed our stay at this secluded property as it was very convenient to several locations that we planned to visit. We spent our days between Schoodic Penninsula and Mt Desert Island, as well as a trip to Campobello Island. The house was perfect for the six of us, especially that each bedroom had its own bathroom. One clear night we sat on the deck and watched "shooting stars". There were only three Adk chairs on the huge deck which left three people without a chair. The house was clean and well maintained. Our teens would have preferred twin beds rather than sleeping in the same bed. The kitchen is very accomodating and we loved the convenience of the open cupboard plan. We stopped at Shaw's supermarket in Ellsworth for groceries on our way to the house. All in all we appreciated all this property had to offer.

Everything You Could Want from a Maine Vacation!

  • 5 of 5
I’ve vacationed all over the world, from 4-diamond resorts to rural campsites in the heart of national parks, and consider myself an experienced traveler. At the end of Aug 2012, my family took its first vacation to Mount Desert Island. We stayed from 8/25 to 9/1 in this vacation home, located on a waterfront property in Lemoine, ME. It was the most relaxing, pleasant vacation that I’ve ever taken and I attribute much of it to this lovely vacation property.

The property is in a somewhat rural area-- about a 30 minute drive to the Hulls Cove Visitor Area at the north of Acadia NP. It sits on at least a couple of acres in the woods in a very private area. I found that it takes about a minute to walk from the backyard to the bay below. At low tide, you can walk across almost half the bay (wear “mud boots”!). Occasionally, a loon passed by and let out its call.

For a vacation home, the house is huge. There’s a bedroom with full bathroom on the first floor, but the area is for sleeping and not hanging out with the family. The laundry room is just across the way from it. There are two other bedrooms on the second and main floor, each with a full bathroom connected to it. I like the floor design on this property because I can enter the balcony from the most common areas of the home. There is a vast, open common area connecting the living room to the kitchen and dining areas. Ceilings are vaulted and angled to the windows. It is a very open floor design and one that I enjoyed very much. The furniture was comfortable. The entire home was spotless.

The kitchen was *fantastic*! An island counter and at least 8 square feet of working countertop space gave my wife and I plenty of room to prepare our meals together without working on top of each other. The home had every utensil, pot, pan, coffee press, mugs, etc that we needed to steam seafood and cook every meal imaginable. They had slow cookers and pressure cookers! I was very impressed. However, one thing that I would have liked was a tea kettle. They had every appliance I needed but no tea kettle. Maybe someone “borrowed” the kettle and forgot to return it? This is a very minor issue. The pro’s far outweighed the con’s with this kitchen.

Finally, the landlord/owner was professional, polite, and very prompt with returning my security deposit.

I had everything I wanted from this vacation home and look forward to renting from them again in the future!

I highly recommend renting this!

We had a wonderful stay...but...

  • 3 of 5
My husband and I and another couple stayed here last year for a week. The house is wonderfully open and the kitchen is well equipped. It's clean and nicely furnished. The problem is that the location is indeed Its at least thirty minutes to any of the Acadia attractions and Bar Harbor. Also the beach is not very accessible...it's down a steep embankment with low hanging branches to go under to get there. If you do finally make it to the water it's actually a tidal marsh...not really anyplace you could set a lawn chair on. This was very disappointing. The rental price was very reasonable though and we adjusted by packing up for the day and heading out to the park and just returning to sleep.
