ESCAPE THE HEAT TO COLD WATER! TEXAS HILL COUNTRY GETAWAY!

Hunt House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 9)

Beautiful family sized home with easy and private Guadalupe River access. This is the perfect place to enjoy the beauty and serenity of the Texas Hill Country. We’re ten minutes west of Hunt along one of the prettiest stretches of country road in Texas – convenient to summer camps and off-season activities.

We're high enough on the hill to have tree top views of the Guadalupe River Valley and just a short hike down the trail to the home owner association river park with canoes, kayaks, and paddle boats. There is a private dam just below the park so the water stays high even in the driest summers.

The house will sleep nine: There is a queen bed and private bathroom with tub in the master. The upstairs bedroom has its own balcony and private bathroom with shower. The middle two bedrooms have a trundle bed (2 singles - great for kids), a single and double bed and share a bath with laundry room.

The dining area seats eight – six at the table and two at the breakfast bar. The family room has a high beam ceiling and a large sliding glass window to enjoy the view. If you can’t leave your technology at home there is wireless internet and satellite TV. The house has every amenity needed for a comfortable stay (oven, fridge, dishwasher, fresh linens, etc). Nothing extra is needed; just bring some groceries, a bathing suit and free time to enjoy it!

Outside we have two spacious decks with Hill Country views. Drink your morning coffee on the side deck and watch the sun rise. Enjoy an evening glass of wine while star gazing on the front deck. Guests often see deer and fox passing through the yard. There is a hammock, a porch swing, and outside eating area with gas grill.

Small dogs considered individually: We understand that pets are a part of the family. At the same time, we have to keep in mind that guests with allergies cannot tolerate any trace of a pet in the house. Dogs weighing less than 20 pounds will be allowed on prior approval only with a pet charge of $10 per day per pet, $500 refundable pet deposit, and a non-refundable pet cleaning fee of $50. No cats.

About Michelle

Danny grew up in Del Rio and San Antonio and has family in and around Kerrville. He introduced Michelle to Texas Hill Country in Hunt. We both fell in love with the Guadalupe River and it's beautiful cypress tree canopy on one of Michelle's first visits to Hill Country.

We live full time in Anchorage, Alaska and plan to spend more time each year at our home in Hunt.

Michelle purchased this house in 2011

Why Michelle chose Hunt

We love the Hunt area and the Guadalupe River! We stayed at many vacation rentals in the area before we decided we want to retire here. The accessibility of the river park without the riverside price was what drew us to this particular house. It feels so private - other riverside rentals we stayed in have neighbors right next door or multiple rentals on-site. Even though we're in a subdivision - it feels like we're out in the country. The previous owner's western decor made it feel homey right away and - did we mention - the Guadalupe River is just down the trail?

What makes this house unique

One of the things we most look forward to when staying at our Hunt vacation house is family gatherings on the huge deck. After all the years of living away and counting on someone else to hold a get together when we visit - we finally get to host them! Another favorite & practically nightly activity is star gazing on the front porch with a glass of wine. There is so little light interference out here that the stars are amazingly bright!

Fantastic!

  • 4 of 5
Our group of 4 adults and 4 children (aged 8 to 12) spent a wonderful four days at this lovely house. The house was comfortable and well equipped indoors and out with an amazing range of outdoor places to sit, chat, watch the sky; but the real star, for us, was the river front area just a short walk down the path. We all loved exploring in the kayaks; and the river was so safe we could allow the kids real freedom to roam, which they embraced. The rope swing was in constant use, the horseshoes were challenging and the barbecue area was alight with fireflies in the evening. Lovely river scenery, wildflowers, birds, deer, hummingbirds, even a family of armadillos in the garden .. these Scots fell in love with Hill Country! Although the Hunt store is very small (and characterful) there are more places to shop within a 20 minute drive, if you find (as we did) that you need to top up groceries / buy river shoes / indulge in a fancy coffee or fast food. We were all so reluctant to leave but felt we'd had a fantastic holiday. Thank you, Michelle!

Terrific location and facility!

We had a wonderful week at this Hunt house with 6 adults and 2 children present for our family vacation. The house is very comfortable with lovely decks, fire pits and the technology needed to stay on top of the NBA finals games that week. (Go Spurs!) Our family loved the proximity to the Guadalupe and its fun activities yet it was not so close, we were concerned with the small children's proximity to the river. All the shade on the decks allowed us to eat most meals outdoors, even with the temps in the 90's.... a great treat! We enjoyed and USED the washer/dryer regularly! I would not advise anyone to try to sleep more than 6 adults in these beds. At the end of the week, my family voted to return in the future. Whether you want to hike, fish, kayak, float the river or just lay in the hammock to read or visit on the shaded decks, this is a wonderful home. Well worth the cost! With 3 levels, I would advise anyone who has problems with stairs to consider another option. This area was covered in wildflowers while we there - very quiet and peaceful! Michelle was very easy to work with and responsive to requests.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the nice review! We are glad you enjoyed your stay and want to let you know we agree with you on the stairs and bed situation. We think 2 couples plus kids or 3 couples is about right for the bedroom configuration. And we do try to warn people that the house is not configured for handicap access - there are stairs to all bedrooms and bathrooms. Can't wait to hear from you next year!

Beautiful place in the Hill Country

  • 5 of 5
With my parents visiting all the way from Europe, we managed to book the cottage last minute for winter break. We had a lovely time exploring Lost Maples State Park, Fredericksburg, Luckenbach and the Garner State Park.

The cottage offered everything we needed, even more then we expected. We had a great time making s'mores in the firepit and the children enjoyed the large backyard very much.

Perfect Family Getaway!

  • 5 of 5
This was our first trip to Texas Hill Country and because of our AMAZING experience we will be back again and again. Our sons, 8 & 5 years old, were instantly transformed into little cowboys and had many adventures around the huge yard. We took full advantage of the river park, complete with a rope swing and kayaks. The house felt like home, was extremely clean, and had everything we could possibly need. The Hunt House is an ideal base for some cool day trips. One of our favorites was to Lost Maples State Park for hiking. We capped off each day around the fire pit, surrounded by a Texas starry sky. Michelle made everything easy and had tons of tips for fun local adventures and experiences. We can't wait to come back!!

Teenagers Happy!

  • 5 of 5
As you may know, it's not easy pleasing teenagers...... Well, we had FOUR with us and they all had an amazing time. We brought along the xbox and ps, which kept the boys entertained, while the girls loved the wifi access for communicating with their boyfriends! Yes, we did go outside! First time kayakers took to it like pros!.. After some minor repairs on the paddle boat, we had it going great, too.... Spent every evening on the deck just chillin... Have been vacationing together for several years and this was theBEST yet!!!! Already planning to attend next year... Thanks SO much for sharing your home with us :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Owner's Response: We love hearing our guests enjoy the house as much as we do. We can harldy wait to get back down there and spend a few evenings star gazing on the porch in September. Danny fixed the paddle boat last time we were there too, so we'll look at it a little closer this trip & see if it needs to be replaced. I think our guests are the primary users so it could be our contribution to the HOA.
