'SOLITUDE' JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED?

Chimney Rock House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

When we began looking for a quiet getaway in the mountains of Western North Carolina, we came upon the sweet community of The Hidden McMillan Valley. We felt like we had stepped back in time with kind people and quiet, relaxed living. You will start with a scenic drive through the apple country of Edneyville and Hendersonville, drive up the mountain with views, then wind down to The Hidden McMillan Valley. 'Solitude' is nestled between two streams and has a country chapel across the way. In the summer months, it offers Sunday morning services and sometimes potluck lunches.

The screened-in porch runs the length of the house and is complete with wicker chairs, rockers, a love seat and hammock. It also has a wrought iron table and chairs for outdoor dining. As you sit out, you will hear the birds, nature, and the rushing of the water. If it is cool, or just for ambiance, you can build yourself a nice fire in the large brick fireplace. The wood is already chopped and stacked on the porch for you.

One of the perks of where we are located is that you can get to so many places in such a short time. We are a little over an hour from Spartanburg, SC. and about 2 hours from Charlotte. We are 20 minutes from downtown Hendersonville with its unique shops and restaurants. We are only 20 minutes from Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. We are also 35-40 minutes from Asheville with all its historical and cultural influence. Close by is the Blue Ridge Parkway, waterfalls and hiking, the Flat Rock Playhouse, Brevard Music Center, Pisgah National Forest, Carl Sandburg's home, The Biltmore House, and the Grove Park Inn to name a few. So, you can find plenty to do or just enjoy the solitude!

About Terri G Allsbrook

Bob and Terri Allsbrook, owners since 2008. We both grew up in N.C, went to college in the mountains of N.C, but have been living in S.C. for 22 years. We wanted a place to retreat to back in the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains...'Solitude' was our answer to that dream.

Terri G Allsbrook purchased this house in 2008

Why Terri G Allsbrook chose Chimney Rock

This photo is taken at 'The Edge of the World', which is one of the prettiest panoramic views of the mountains you will ever see! It is only a few minutes drive and then a short hike to get there from Solitude.

Fabulously, cozy stay!

  • 5 of 5
"Solitude" was a wonderful place to visit. We were greeted by some neighborhood dogs upon arrival, which made us miss our two Dachshunds a little bit. The home was nice and cozy with an inviting ambience and various signs of the owners' spirituality. Those things made our stay all the more worth it. We visited Lake Lure for the Dirty Dancing festival, fed a groundhog on the Parkway from our bare hands, and visited Burntshirt Vinyards. We were accompanied by another couple and were able to make fun memories with them. Terri was extremely accommodating and easy to work with. I would absolutely recommend "Solitude" for any person wishing to relax and enjoy a beautiful scene.

AMAZING!

  • 5 of 5
As a little girl my family use to visit McMillian Hidden Valley every summer. This was a special trip to take my children to visit a place that I loved so much. I could not be more pleased! Although some things have changed most of it is just like I remember. The house was perfect! There is a great fire pit out back that we roasted Hotdogs and Marshmallows. The porch on the front was very relaxing, we would sit on the porch for hours as a family just talking and listening to the creek and the crickets. I loved that they had board games for us to play it gave us great family time. We had a great time exploring around the valley and we never met a stranger! We were even invited to the Pizza Party at the church on Saturday night. We did venture out to Chimney Rock, Cherokee was only a short drive and lots of fun too. Our favorite was spending time in downtown Hendersonville everyone was so friendly. We did not have cell service at the house but that was a GOOD thing! Our family will be back sooner than later!

Owner's Response: It always thrills my soul when we can share our Solitude with others, and they derive the kind of pleasure from it that we do! Kelly was such a pleasure to work with because of the excitement she had about coming back to the Valley and getting to share it with her husband and children. She did mention no cell service, but I want to amend that. We have a microcell at the house, and if you have AT&T, we can easily add your number during your stay.

Solitude

  • 5 of 5
If you are looking for a place to relax look no further. It is tucked away and private but still close enough to do sight seeing. We did Asheville, Chimney Rock and Dupont Forest which is a must. We also spent a lot of time in downtown Hendersonville which is great ! We had a kitchen and plenty of space at the house and it included everything needed. Enjoy!

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5
"Solitude" is a nice quiet place to stay. The listing description was very accurate. The house was clean and well-maintained. The owner was very helpful on working with me and my family on the days we wanted to reserve the house. Anyone looking for a nice, quiet, clean place to stay, this is the house for you. It was a plus to have the select comfort bed to control the firmness/softness of the mattress. Loved the screened in front porch, the fireplace and the fire pit. There was even a grill outside for our use. Solitude is a short distance from several tourist attractions. Looking forward to my next trip so I can stay at this "home away from home".

It was solitude

  • 4 of 5
We try to make an annual trip to the mountains with the kids. I spend too much time in hotels as it is, and have used VRBO in other locations before with much success. This time was no different. We always have a wonderful time in the mountains, but having such a nice place to call home for a few days made it that much better.
The drive up to the house is a pleasant one through some scenic areas with nice vistas. The house was very clean, quiet, and peaceful. After a day of hiking and hunting waterfalls, it was nice to come 'home' and have a family meal together and quiet glass of wine on the front porch listening to the stream nearby. Plenty of room for the five of us. And making s'mores out by the firepit was the icing on the cake. If I had a complaint, it would be that the TV didn't have the right ESPN channel to watch the game I wanted. But I think the kids were fine with that; we played a board game instead and had a fun time. We look forward to staying here again.

Fun (Even in the rain!)

  • 4 of 5
My family had a great time here, despite the rain each day of our trip. We got a break in the rain for a couple hours and were able to roast hot dogs and marshmallows in the fire pit on the 4th! Solitude is a great jumping off point for many neat places, such as Asheville, Great Smoky Mtn. park, Pisgah Nat'l park, and Brevard, NC. It is definitely quiet here, and the porch is wonderful. There were many fireflies here too, which were about the only light at night. It's a great place to unwind and enjoy the serenity.
