'SOLITUDE' JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED?

Lake Lure House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

When we began looking for a quiet getaway in the mountains of Western North Carolina, we came upon the sweet community of The Hidden McMillan Valley. We felt like we had stepped back in time with kind people and quiet, relaxed living. You will start with a scenic drive through the apple country of Edneyville and Hendersonville, drive up the mountain with views, then wind down to The Hidden McMillan Valley. 'Solitude' is nestled between two streams and has a country chapel across the way. In the summer months, it offers Sunday morning services and sometimes potluck lunches.

The screened-in porch runs the length of the house and is complete with wicker chairs, rockers, a love seat and hammock. It also has a wrought iron table and chairs for outdoor dining. As you sit out, you will hear the birds, nature, and the rushing of the water. If it is cool, or just for ambiance, you can build yourself a nice fire in the large brick fireplace. The wood is already chopped and stacked on the porch for you.

One of the perks of where we are located is that you can get to so many places in such a short time. We are a little over an hour from Spartanburg, SC. and about 2 hours from Charlotte. We are 20 minutes from downtown Hendersonville with its unique shops and restaurants. We are only 20 minutes from Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. We are also 35-40 minutes from Asheville with all its historical and cultural influence. Close by is the Blue Ridge Parkway, waterfalls and hiking, the Flat Rock Playhouse, Brevard Music Center, Pisgah National Forest, Carl Sandburg's home, The Biltmore House, and the Grove Park Inn to name a few. So, you can find plenty to do or just enjoy the solitude!

Bob and Terri Allsbrook, owners since 2008. We both grew up in N.C, went to college in the mountains of N.C, but have been living in S.C. for 22 years. We wanted a place to retreat to back in the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains...'Solitude' was our answer to that dream.

Terri G Allsbrook purchased this house in 2008

This photo is taken at 'The Edge of the World', which is one of the prettiest panoramic views of the mountains you will ever see! It is only a few minutes drive and then a short hike to get there from Solitude.

If you are looking for a place to relax look no further. It is tucked away and private but still close enough to do sight seeing. We did Asheville, Chimney Rock and Dupont Forest which is a must. We also spent a lot of time in downtown Hendersonville which is great ! We had a kitchen and plenty of space at the house and it included everything needed. Enjoy!

"Solitude" is a nice quiet place to stay. The listing description was very accurate. The house was clean and well-maintained. The owner was very helpful on working with me and my family on the days we wanted to reserve the house. Anyone looking for a nice, quiet, clean place to stay, this is the house for you. It was a plus to have the select comfort bed to control the firmness/softness of the mattress. Loved the screened in front porch, the fireplace and the fire pit. There was even a grill outside for our use. Solitude is a short distance from several tourist attractions. Looking forward to my next trip so I can stay at this "home away from home".

It was solitude

We try to make an annual trip to the mountains with the kids. I spend too much time in hotels as it is, and have used VRBO in other locations before with much success. This time was no different. We always have a wonderful time in the mountains, but having such a nice place to call home for a few days made it that much better.
The drive up to the house is a pleasant one through some scenic areas with nice vistas. The house was very clean, quiet, and peaceful. After a day of hiking and hunting waterfalls, it was nice to come 'home' and have a family meal together and quiet glass of wine on the front porch listening to the stream nearby. Plenty of room for the five of us. And making s'mores out by the firepit was the icing on the cake. If I had a complaint, it would be that the TV didn't have the right ESPN channel to watch the game I wanted. But I think the kids were fine with that; we played a board game instead and had a fun time. We look forward to staying here again.

Fun (Even in the rain!)

My family had a great time here, despite the rain each day of our trip. We got a break in the rain for a couple hours and were able to roast hot dogs and marshmallows in the fire pit on the 4th! Solitude is a great jumping off point for many neat places, such as Asheville, Great Smoky Mtn. park, Pisgah Nat'l park, and Brevard, NC. It is definitely quiet here, and the porch is wonderful. There were many fireflies here too, which were about the only light at night. It's a great place to unwind and enjoy the serenity.

Long Weekend with Daughter and Family

Our visit to spend time with our daughter and her family was extremely enjoyable. The comfort of your cabin had a lot to do with that. Once we got settled in, we were able to enjoy cooking a couple meals (breakfast each morning and a couple suppers) in the cabin.
We also took a walk with our grand daughter to explore the wooden bridge and brook.
Rented a pontoon boat for an hour on Lake Lure. Exploring the lake was enjoyable. We did some shopping at the Chimney Rock shops and enjoyed an ice cream after lunch. Took our time and enjoyed the area in general. The cabin was a nice place to return to and enjoy in the evening. We even rented a red box movie to watch one night.
Marveled at the view from the mountain top you told us about.
