Grand Lake House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.25 Baths, (Sleeps 9)

We invite you to enjoy our beautiful mountain home for a relaxing vacation in the winter or summer in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. With wifi and cable TV you can stay in touch with the world while enjoying the seclusion of this nature lovers paradise. Our home's incredible views take your breath away every morning when you wake up and look across the sparkling water. Sit and watch nature's activity on the lake for hours on end. The islands in the lake provide a back drop for a dramatic nature show where Osprey nest and white pelicans perch. Deer, Elk and Moose are often spotted from the deck. Shadow Mountain rises up out of the water on the far shore giving this beautiful mountain lake its name, 'Shadow Mountain Lake.'

In the winter, you can snowshoe, ice skate or snowmobile on the frozen lake right out the back door. Spend hours of fun snowmobiling through town or on the 100+ miles of trails around the Grand Lake area. Grand Lake Village is the snow mobile capital of Colorado! Only 20 minutes from the Sol Vista skiing area and 40 minutes from the world famous (and local's favorite) Winter Park and Mary Jane ski areas, this is a beautiful and quiet winter getaway.

Our home is located where the headwaters of the Colorado River enter the lake, creating an estuary-like waterfront on your doorstep. In the lake there is fishing for trout and Kokanee Salmon. This lake is connected at its other end to Grand Lake via a navigable waterway and visits to Grand Lake Village are a must, whether by boat or by automobile. This quaint mountain town has a special charm, choosing covered boardwalks rather than cement sidewalks. Fun mountain town activities like Saturday night bingo in the park, browsing curio shops, playing miniature golf or experiencing the yummy candy and ice cream stores. You can also enjoy the authentic mountain night life by taking in a play at the live theater, bowling, or drinking and dancing in the rustic saloons and many different restaurants.

Right out the door from the lower level of the house you can use our complimentary canoe and paddle on the lake around the islands for sight seeing and fishing. We really love our mountain home and we would like to share it with you. It is a place that you will never forget.

About The Owner

Brent and Lori are avid travelers and have been renting through VRBO for many years in places all over the world, from Hawaii to Costa Rica (the picture), Mexico to Germany and Italy and most recently Africa. We know what is important to us when we travel and we like to share that same experience with the people who rent our vacation home in Colorado.

The Owner purchased this house in 2010

Why The Owner chose Grand Lake

We have been visiting this area since we were children. Lori's parents met here. We are natives of Colorado and we plan to retire in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. This vacation home is a step in that direction.

What makes this house unique

Seeing animals in the wild, hiking, biking, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and skiing in the Rockies and visiting Rocky Mountain National Park are just the beginning of what we love here. The quiet and solitude that this area evokes are just right for recharging our batteries for our lives in town and while traveling. Sitting on the deck and watching the lake as it takes on its never ending array of reflections, contrasts and moods is pure joy.

Wonderful Waterfront Stay

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful getaway for spring break. The home was very clean and cozy. We watched the wildlife on the lake and took advantage of the towns of Grand Lake and Winter Park. We had everything we needed in the home and enjoyed both the decks off the two different living areas. We will visit again!

Fantastic Property

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property for 3 nights.

First of all, the instructions were easy to follow to get to (and into) the home.

The home itself was spottlessly clean and ENORMOUS.

it had every amenity you could possibly want, and the views were awe inspiring.

Unfortunately, we had 3 days of poor weather so didn't get a chance to use the outside area and barbecue, but that did not detract from the great time we had here.

The only small complaint, was that there was no information on how to use the TV/DVD and we couldn't get a signal with the TV in the bedroom, but having said that, we didn't go there to watch TV!

Would we stat there again if we were in that area? YES

Would we recommend this property? DEFINATELY.

I would definitely recommend this property for a stay in the Grand Lake, CO area. The house has 2 full living rooms on the first floor and the second floor, but we spent most of our time on the beautiful second story glass-enclosed balcony. The views are gorgeous. The complimentary kayak and canoe were a fun perk! The house was clean and the kitchen well-stocked. Everything was in working order. The owners were responsive and easy to deal with.

Great House-Better than the pictures

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a great time in Brent and Lori's lake house. It was as advertised, in fact it looked even better in person. Brent and Lori were very accommodating. I was told the weekend I inquired about was available and I made plans accordingly. Shortly after I was then informed that there was a miscommunication between themselves it wasn't available. When they found out I couldn't change my plans to another time, they moved their family gathering to another weekend to accommodate us.

The house itself was spotless, well equipped, and conveniently located right out of town and close to the park.

It has everything you need. Rooms are a good size and beds were comfortable. We were concerned that it was going to be too close to the neighbors and although houses were very close to each other it wasn't a problem. If your looking for seclusion though, this isn't the house for you although I think it would be very difficult to find a secluded lakefront house.

The fire pit was a nice area and a canoe and kayak were available for use. We used the canoe and paddled around all the islands. We saw lots of Osprey nests with chicks and tons of Pelicans. Most of the islands were closed off to visitors because of the nests so don't expect to pack a lunch to have on the islands. Still a lot of fun. Before you go out in the canoe make sure you are comfortable walking in the muck up to your knees. The water is very shallow in front of the house and we couldn't find a way around all the sand bars to get back to the house so hubby had to get out and pull the canoe. By sheer luck we found a way out but weren't so lucky coming back.

Since I know the owners read the reviews I'll mention two minor things that they could address. A new frying pan that sits flat on the burners would be helpful. Although it's not worn out, the bottom is rounded and makes cooking things evenly a little difficult. Also the master shower didn't produce really hot water. It was warm enough for a shower but not really hot, which we would have liked after a long hike. In the rest of the house it was plenty hot so maybe the valve needs a look at. I'm sure they would have addressed it if we called them but we didn't.

If you're looking for a great place to eat go to Terrace Inn. We went twice and food was great both times. Hikes we liked in the park were Big Meadows up to Granite Falls and Mt. Ida (tough hike).

I highly recommend this house for your lakefront vacation.

The perfect family vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had the most amazing week and a half here - there was more than enough space for our family of five and lots for our three young children to do. The location was peaceful with kind neighbors and a beautiful view, and it was easy to access all the great things in the area. We loved watching the pelicans, osprey and other birds from the deck and were visited by two or three moose nearly every night. Having access to the water was a plus, although it was moving really fast, which made it quite the adventure! Brent and Lori were really wonderful to work with - timely communication, super helpful and very accommodating. Highly recommend this beautiful home for your next get away!

Owner's Response: It sounds like you had a really great time during your stay at our mountain home! We are so happy for you. During June the rivers run high and fast with the snow melt from the winter. This year we had a record snow pack so it was an extra big run off. Every season brings new dimensions to the experiences to be had in the high Rockies. We hope you can come back some time!
