Guestbook comments from the owner
We stayed for one month in the garden apartment. It was immacuate, extremely well furnished, warm and restful. The best thing (in our opinion) was the experience of relating to the owners. No detail was missed; they extended themselves beyond what one might expect and truly cared about our comfort. They did this without "bugging" us. The bed is amazingly comfortable and the bedroom's "black out" draperies allow a very peaceful, long sleep. Just around the corner, you can see the stunning views of the city of San Francisco. The neighborhood has friendly people, and if you come close to a holiday you will greatly enjoy the festive decorations and celebration on this quiet, little street.

We very strongly recommend this property; especially it's wonderful, honest owners, Marti and Will.

PEACEFUL, SAFE, AND RELAXING

  • 5 of 5
My husband and two children and I rented the Boxwood home for 1 week while sightseeing in the Bay Area. We enjoyed the neighborhood's tranquility and safety. Our family ate many of our meals outside sitting on the comfortable patio cushions with the fountain making relaxing sounds. The home was clean, pleasantly decorated without being overly cluttered with collectibles, and well organized. Our kids slept on the couch and we took the very comfortable bed with soft linens. The Boxwood house let us enjoy San Francisco, the USS Hornet, Pacific Pinball Museum, and the free Jelly Belly Factory Tour while having a nice home away from home to enjoy each night. Trader Joe's allowed us to buy meals and to go on a "dessert run" also. The hosts were nice but not meddlesome. If ever visiting the area again I would probably stay in the same home.

The only negative I can come up with is that the long closet, rather than a door, separates the bedroom from the living room. We would have liked a little more privacy from the kids, but because our kids are trained to let us sleep in, it worked out okay anyway.

BEAUTIFUL, RELAXING!

A real gem in the heart of historic Alameda. Our hosts Marti and Will were gracious and easy-going. The apartment is secluded and very private, with access to the beautiful backyard. Wonderful getaway for two!

WONDERFUL STAY

  • 5 of 5
I stayed at the Boxwood house for over a month working as a travel nurse with my daughter while we found a permanent residence in the lovely Alameda. The location is convenient to local shops, Oakland, and SF. The apartment is very cozy and well decorated. It is very private and surrounded by beautiful flowers and trees making for a serene experience. Marti makes sure that guests feel welcomed & have everything to enjoy their stay including a well equipped kitchen to prepare meals. We truly enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone vacationing in the Bay Area. Thank You!

WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE

  • 5 of 5
We had the pleasure of staying at Boxwood House for several weeks with our 14 year old son. Marti and Will made us feel completely at home. We loved cooking in the small kitchen, which is very thoughtfully and thoroughly equipped. A special treat was spending time in the gazebo in the beautiful garden by the fountain. The home is on one of Alameda's most lovely streets, framed by stately trees and historic homes. We loved taking walks from the house. The apartment was very clean, comfortable and aesthetically furnished. Marti answered all of our questions, took care of all of our needs (which were few because she had anticipated almost everything). Marti and her family made us feel welcome as new members of the local community. We found it very easy to use public transportation from the apartment. I would (and have) recommend/ed the Boxwood Apartment to family and friends. It is a lovely place to stay for a couple or small family.

A DELIGHTFUL RETREAT

  • 5 of 5
We spent a very happy month at Boxwood House, while visiting family and friends in the Bay area. The location was excellent, an easy drive from the Bay Bridge. From there we could go west across the bay to the city, or choose to drive through the Caldecott Tunnel to the East Bay. Alameda itself is charming, and offers a wonderful mix of history, architecture, relaxation, parks, beaches, bike trails, the aircraft carrier Hornet, (now a museum,) and plenty of interesting ethnic restaurants. Off the Grid food trucks visit Alameda every Saturday! Marti and Will, the owners of Boxwood House, were so generous with their attention to our needs and wants. We heartily recommend this rental for couples, business people, and families. Only caution is that the apartment has many fascinating objets d'art that very small children may want to examine closely. You would have to put them up high, out of reach.

A WEEK IN ALAMEDA

  • 5 of 5
Despite the bad weather, our week in Alameda was pleasant. Took the ferry to San Fran, and explored the hidden jewel that is Alameda. The apartment was cozy and well appointed with everything we needed in the kitchen. The owners were very accommodating friendly. I would most definitely stay again with hopefully better weather. Alameda is a little known secret.
