We stayed for one month in the garden apartment. It was immacuate, extremely well furnished, warm and restful. The best thing (in our opinion) was the experience of relating to the owners. No detail was missed; they extended themselves beyond what one might expect and truly cared about our comfort. They did this without "bugging" us. The bed is amazingly comfortable and the bedroom's "black out" draperies allow a very peaceful, long sleep. Just around the corner, you can see the stunning views of the city of San Francisco. The neighborhood has friendly people, and if you come close to a holiday you will greatly enjoy the festive decorations and celebration on this quiet, little street.
We very strongly recommend this property; especially it's wonderful, honest owners, Marti and Will.
This home away from home was perfect for our needs, located in a quaint and quiet neighborhood, walking distance to beach, parks, cafes, and various restaurants. The unit was clean, comfortable, tastefully furnished, and the full kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, utensils, and everything needed to prepare, cook, and serve meals.
My daughter had knee surgery that week and I needed a quiet place with street-level access for my temporary stay while attending to her. Marti, the owner, was warm, accommodating, and helpful. When she realized that my daughter just had the knee surgery she immediately offered up a toilet aid to help her in the bathroom.
Lastly, within a 2 mile easy driving radius are grocery stores, restaurants, and the vibrant and entertaining downtown area. I will definitely come back here in the future and stay at the Boxwood House.
This was a wonderful cozy apartment for two. My husband and I enjoyed all the comforts of home while relaxing on our vacation. Would highly recommend staying here if they are visiting the area.
Great location, great access to the San Francisco bay area. Beautiful gardens, wonderful neighborhood, yet not too far from major sites (Golden Gate Bridge, Oakland, Airport, etc.) A plus to have free parking! Highly recommend to anyone.
My husband and I just spent a week in this apartment. It was exactly what we needed. Quiet residential area, very friendly homeowner and neighbors, lovely apartment and best of all an amazing "zen" backyard. We walked to the beach everyday and quickly became regulars at the coffee cafe nearby and the sandwich shop - also nearby. We were looking for a relaxing, restful week while visiting our son and that is exactly what we got. We thought about jumping on the BART and visiting Alcatraz or taking the bus to a movie, but we were so content just where we were. I highly recommend for anyone wanting a relaxing getaway.
My husband and two children and I rented the Boxwood home for 1 week while sightseeing in the Bay Area. We enjoyed the neighborhood's tranquility and safety. Our family ate many of our meals outside sitting on the comfortable patio cushions with the fountain making relaxing sounds. The home was clean, pleasantly decorated without being overly cluttered with collectibles, and well organized. Our kids slept on the couch and we took the very comfortable bed with soft linens. The Boxwood house let us enjoy San Francisco, the USS Hornet, Pacific Pinball Museum, and the free Jelly Belly Factory Tour while having a nice home away from home to enjoy each night. Trader Joe's allowed us to buy meals and to go on a "dessert run" also. The hosts were nice but not meddlesome. If ever visiting the area again I would probably stay in the same home.
The only negative I can come up with is that the long closet, rather than a door, separates the bedroom from the living room. We would have liked a little more privacy from the kids, but because our kids are trained to let us sleep in, it worked out okay anyway.
A real gem in the heart of historic Alameda. Our hosts Marti and Will were gracious and easy-going. The apartment is secluded and very private, with access to the beautiful backyard. Wonderful getaway for two!
