About The Owner
High school sweethearts, we met at El Dorado High School in Placerville. We purchased the Deck House from my parents who built the home in 1970 and remodeled it for a vacation rental. Always a favorite for the extended family, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandchildren, everyone loves coming to Gold Country Deck House.
The Owner purchased this house in 1998
Why The Owner chose Placerville
My Dad loves to tell the story of finding a contractor to build this house at the price he could afford. Dad hauled in the rocks for the fireplace and stone walls from a nearby quarry. The large rocks with the manzanita tree were hauled in Dad's pickup truck and the truck skimmed the roadway with its overweight load. Dad makes sure everyone knows how he situated the home on the property to take advantage of the shade of the oak trees in summertime, morning sun and the views year round. The Deck House includes family history.
What makes this house unique
We love sunsets at Gold Country Deck House. We love the proximity to historic downtown Placerville and its shops, antique stores, art galleries and cafes. We love the country ambiance, the secluded natural setting. In summertime, we drive to the American River to swim, have BBQ's, drive to Coloma to Marshall Gold Discovery Park. September begins Apple Hill season and visits to orchards, wineries and farms. November finds us visiting the Christmas Tree Farms. December we love wood fires and proximity to cross country skiing and Lake Tahoe downhill skiing. In spring, Daffodil Hill makes a spectacular display. Always there are farms and vendors of locally grown fruits and vegetables.
Guestbook comments from the owner
Thanks for sharing your home. Great river rafting, nice view, but someone should kill that rooster. Greg
Please disregard the rooster comment He was just kidding. We love animals! Thank you for the beautiful view. Josephine
Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. This trip marked the first time my boyfriend and I went away together and even more importantly, the first time he got to meet my family. What a wonderful place for us all to spend time together. I love how full of history your home is and I hope it becomes a long-standing part of ours as well. Alexa
