Seals, sea otters and whales can be seen while kayaking and bears can be viewed in the nearby Brooks Camp in Katmai National Park. If you enjoy birding, from the hills of Homer to across Kachemak Bay, the odds are good to see a possible 241 species of the 471 species in Alaska……we have all the best to offer!

Additionally Homer has been described as 'Funky and charming -- an art town on the rise,' by John Villani, author of 'The 100 Best Art Towns in America”. Whether it's writers reading at coffeehouses, musicians jamming at intimate bars, art lovers prowling galleries on First Friday or actors strutting the stage at Pier One or the Mariner Theatre, art comes alive in Homer.

We provide the homey quiet retreat you’ll want for your Alaskan vacation or getaway. Homer Ocean View Retreat is located at the end of a quiet road on a bluff with an unobstructed view of the magnificent snow-capped mountains of Kachemak Bay, the shimmering waters of Halibut Cove, and the glacier views of Kachemak Bay State Park. The house is situated on 5 lovely acres approximately 12 miles from town and therefore offers privacy from tourist activity yet is close enough to enjoy all the offerings of the nearby area.

From the living room window, one may occasionally see a lynx or black bear; additionally several female moose and young return each summer to the property. Frequently one may see ravens, eagles, and sand hill cranes.

Springtime in Homer

We spent hours gazing at the blue water and snow-topped mountains of Kachemak Bay State Park from the sun porch of this perfect house. One sunset, a family of sandhill cranes joined us. One early morning, it was a moose. The kitchen is well-appointed, the claw-foot tub and wood-heated sauna are a treat after a day of hiking, and the spectacular view from the bed makes it hard to get up in the morning. You hardly notice the drive into town, because of the gorgeous scenery and moose-spotting opportunities. Besides, the Fritz Creek store is near by, and it is a source of delicious food and fresh-baked pastries not to be missed each morning. This is a special place.
