Villa Aroma is situated on the edge of the small village of Kaldir. The villa is on a hillside with an open vista across the valley toward the village of Kaldir and in the distance the dramatic hilltop town of Motovun. The house, which is built in stone in traditional style was completed in 2009. Local craftsmen have been able to create a villa with all the atmosphere of a traditional Istrian stone house but will all modern facilities. Outside the 550 square meter garden, 8x4 meter swimming pool and covered barbecue area provide ample space for relaxation.

The villa has three double bedrooms. The master bedroom on the first floor has an en-suite bathroom with a jacuzzi bath and a separate entrance

Food and Wine: Kaldir is known as the garden of Istria. As you walk through the village you pass through orchards of plums, peaches, pears and apples as well as olive groves and vineyards. The area is also one of the principal truffle regions in Europe. The largest ever truffle (as recorded in the Guinness book of records) was found in the Motuvun forest. The local restaurants specialize in providing dishes incorporating truffles and a grilled steak covered with a thick layer of fresh truffle shavings. On of the most highly regarded restaurants in Istria, Zigante, is just 10 minutes drive from Villa Aroma. In the autumn there are annual truffle festivals centered on Livade and Buzet. Within a 25 minute drive from Kaldir there is a wide selection of first class restaurants.

Excellent wines are produced in the area and well marked wine routes lead you through charming countryside to wineries where you can sample some of the very best Croatian wines. Local olive oil is another feature of the cuisine.

Hilltop towns in central Istria: Central Istria is studded with hilltop towns many of which offer breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Motovun, within view of Villa Aroma, is the best known of the hilltop towns. Perched on a conical hilltop it provides a magical view from every direction. The town has well preserved fortifications and elegant 16th and 17th century architecture. It is a popular tourist destination with a good range of cafes and restaurants and features an annual film festival every summer.

Also of interest are Groznjan, an ancient medieval settlement now restored as a center for arts and music and featuring art galleries, bars and restaurants and Oprtalj on the crest of a hill with stunning views across the Istrian peninsula from Mount Ucka (above Rijeka) in the east to the Adriatic coast in the west. Oprtalj has kept its town walls and its medieval lay-out of narrow streets, tiny squares and arched passages.

Relaxing holidays in the magnificent Villa Aaroma

  • 5 of 5
With glorious weather we arrived at the villa aroma and were warmly greeted by Roberta and delicious crostolis - thank you for the recipe, Roberta- . The beautiful blue pool beamed at us with the magnificent view from the terrace on Kaldir, the valley and Motovun. From the upper terrace the view is even better to enjoy.
At the furnishings and equipments you notice attention to detail. Also in the outside area it makes pleasure to discover many little things, which account for the special charm.
Unwind and relax properly we really could during the day at the pool and in the evening at the terrace of the villa with open doors.
The equippment of the kitchen leave nothing to be desired for us. The connection to the living room we found particularly successful. The homely bedrooms and the bathrooms also fit into the overall picture.
For those seeking relaxation, who wish to view the center of Istria, Villa Aroma is an excellent staring point.
The winery Benvenuti in Kaldir is for wine lovers in any case worth a visit.

Villa aroma was lovely. It was set up perfectly as a vacation home with everything we needed. Roberta worked hard to make us feel welcome. The views from the house are stunning! Had a bit of trouble with my gps finding the house but once we did it was great! Would definitely stay here again

wonderful house in the countryside of Istria

  • 4 of 5
We spent our holidays in Villa Aroma together with our two little children an freinds who also have two daughters. The house is perfect for a familily vacation as it is equipped with everything you need for the daily life with children-there was even a hand blender :-) which we used to make melon juice or fruit puree for the little ones.
The view from the house and pool is fantastic, over the beautiful green hills and vinyards of central Istria.
All in all we spent a perfect holiday there!

Wow..!

  • 4 of 5
In one word: W O N D E R F U L ...!
The house is very nice decorated, clean and very well equiped.
If you are looking for a tranquil/peaceful place to stay: go to Villa Aroma.
Places of interest (f.i. Motovun, Porec, Pula, Rovinj) are within driving distance and the roads are fine.
Relaxing at the pool with a nice glass of wine made us feel like 'miljonairs'..

Roberta picted the right place to build this house: right beside the vineyard, overlooking the valley and pittoresque Motovun.

One thing however: If you want to go out for dinner at night: you do need a car !
In Kaldir (where the villa is situated) there are no restaurants (or supermarket).

Villa in Kaldir

  • 5 of 5
Excellent villa in every way. The view over the valley to Motovun is amazing (the photos don't really capture how great it is). The villa itself is beautifully designed and extremely well stocked. We gave it a good test being two grandmothers, three other adults and two tiny children.
We had great weather at the beginning of May and ate in the garden using the BBQ (although the pool water was still a bit too fresh to stay in too long that early in the season!)
The village location is also a good base for exploring most of the rest of Istria. Do try the Benvenuti wine too that is produced by a family business in the same village - especially the white Malvazia.
All in all highly recommended.
