Overview

Faubourg Marigny House Rental Photos and Description

House, 7 Bedrooms, 7 Baths, (Sleeps 14)

One of New Orleans' most unique vacation lodging properties: the Engine 24 French Quarter Firehouse... one of the few VRBO properties that is licensed by the City of New Orleans for short-term rentals! Stay in an authentic historic firehouse while enjoying the modern amenities of this renovated gem. Much of the furniture was updated recently, too!

We are located in the heart of the Faubourg Marigny, considered by travel magazines to be one of America's hot neighborhoods. Next door is the French Quarter, one of the most historic and charming areas anywhere. And to the other side is the hip, funky Bywater, a neighborhood which features great local eateries and bars.

Our guest house is a restored fire station designed to function as a home away from home for tourists and locals alike to come and enjoy the vibrant culture that is New Orleans. Formerly, this historic building housed Engine 24 of the New Orleans Fire Department! Local architect William Sonner purchased and renovated the Firehouse in the 2000s and it's now one of the city's most popular vacation rentals!

The Firehouse has 7 bedrooms and 7 baths and sleeps up to 14 people. The downstairs Main Floor is perfect for larger groups, family gatherings, etc. while the upstairs Penthouse is great for the VIPs of the group as well as a great place to congregate.

The Firehouse has two large private living areas and a newly renovated New Orleans courtyard with fountain, grill, outdoor seating and more. The Firehouse is primarily a lodging facility. Any special events, parties, receptions, etc. must be agreed to by the facility manager and extra fee(s) may apply.

Please note: The Firehouse is a very popular building and usually books weeks or months in advance. We're often in phone or email contact with multiple groups for the same dates. The first party to initiate payment or provide proper credit will enter into a reservation with us! Check availability in real-time, any time at https://v2.reservationkey.com/837/Engine24/

About John

The Firehouse is owned by a successful local architect (who oversaw the renovation!) and a guy who owns/operates an upscale home/lifestyle store in swanky Old Metairie, a N.O. suburb.

John purchased this house in 2000

Why John chose Faubourg Marigny

The Firehouse building oozes with charm and history. Upgrades are ongoing to further improve the guest experience. The location is great, too, for those who want to be close to the craziness but in a REAL New Orleans residential neighborhood.

What makes this house unique

The Marigny is such an interesting neighborhood on its own, with great restaurants, clubs, coffee shops, etc. Fantasic 1800s architecture everywhere, too! And of course, the French Quarter is just a few blocks away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a great find. Cool, funky (in a good way), clean and full of character and charm. Our group of 14 guys had so much fun hanging out and celebrating our friend Brad's upcoming wedding. Low-key bachelor party with lots of quality time spent with friends. Two guys are deploying to Afghanistan next month so it was especially great to have time with them! The location not too far from Frenchmen Street is great and the French Quarter is close too. Be sure to check out Mimi's bar, one block away. Good music (but no DJ any longer) and interesting people-watching!

Firehouse was just what we wanted

  • 5 of 5

Visited NOLA with several other couples and we wanted something a bit local, funky and maybe bohemian. We got a little of all that, plus a nice clean room, at the Engine 24 Firehouse. Location is good in the Marigny neighborhood and there are some killer bars and restaurants nearby, such as Maurepas, Franklin and Booty's street food. Frenchmen Street is a few blocks away and we spent nearly every night there...did not even venture to Bourbon once.

If you want a cool place and don't expect a Ritz-Carlton experience for the reasonable rate these guys are charging, try Engine 24. It's one of a kind!

Very disappointed

  • 1 of 5

The pictures that were on line didn't match what we saw when we got there. We found the furniture to be of poor quality. All of the beds were extremely soft. The sectional sofa was well used and had tears in the cushions. Our group of 13 people did not have enough room to sit in the living area together. None of the tv remotes worked. The water pressure was very weak. All of this led us to get a hotel room after 2 days of our week vacation. We would never recommend Firehouse 24 to anyone.

Owner's Response: We are very sorry to hear that this guest did not enjoy their Firehouse experience, although others in their party did. It would be helpful to know of issues while our guests are in-house as we can possibly handle them at the time, rather than a couple of weeks after the fact. One sidenote: furniture is constantly being replaced and upgraded at the house and new mattresses are on the way!

Fun stay at the Firehouse

  • 5 of 5

We had a college reunion with 14 people from different areas of the country. There were 6 couples, each with their own room and bathroom, and 2 single girls who shared a room and bathroom. The upstairs living room/kitchen area was great for everyone to hang out and visit. Location was great, in a non-touristy neighborhood within walking distance to the French Quarter. Although I wouldn't have walked anywhere by myself, I never felt unsafe when with a group. It was fun to visit the bars and restaurants that were around the Firehouse so we could get a more authentic New Orleans experience. Would definitely recommend the Firehouse for a large group rental.

Had a blast!

  • 5 of 5

The place was amazing, the management was professional, and still laid back about making sure we had a great time down in NOLA. We had a big group of guys for a bachelor party and having a huge house like this to ourselves was great. The neighbors / neighborhood was great too!

Perfect Birthday Bash in NOLA

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, along with 8 of our friends, had the pleasure of staying 3 nights at the fabulous Engine 24 Firehouse earlier this month. We came from California, Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky and Florida for my birthday celebration. We couldn't have picked a more perfect place to all stay together. The upstairs penthouse living area was the perfect place to gather each morning and late evening. The 5 couples had their pick of the 7 bedroom/bath suites. There were wonderful places to dine well within walking distance in the neighborhood. Be sure to have breakfast at the Cake Cafe and order the cinnamon roll! If you get the chance book the Segway tour in the French Quarter and go to Mardi Gras World. I was able to send a package ahead of our stay of gift bags for all our guests thanks to Martha. We decided to all purchase firehouse t-shirts from the local actual firehouse in the French Quarter, which made for some great pictures in front of Engine 24. We had so much fun that we all plan on getting together in the next few years again.

We had a great time

  • 4 of 5

We hosted 14 guests for my son's wedding. He and his wife live a few blocks away in the Bywater. All our events -- the rehearsal dinner, the wedding and the reception -- were within easy walking distance. The arrangement was exceptionally convenient, and we particularly enjoyed sharing breakfasts and having everybody close by.

There are plenty of good restaurants in the neighborhood and when we wanted to go to the Quarter or elsewhere, we had no difficulty getting cabs to show up promptly after we called.

Among the questions I had before I saw the place concerned the size and arrangement of the rooms. All of them turned out to be reasonably roomy and have an adequate ensuite bath. Three of them have a loft with a queen bed up a circular staircase and a pull-out sofa on the lower level.

I would note that it is almost impossible to avoid climbing lots of stairs, and we had two older guests who had some trouble. Fortunately, there are two rooms that can be reached without climbing more than a couple of steps, but reaching the large upstairs living room and kitchen requires considerable climbing. This is NOT a handicap friendly facility.

It also isn't a luxury hotel -- it could stand a little love in the way of paint, soap and water, new linens and a few replacement dishes -- lots of cracks and and no two cups matched. The sofa in the upstairs living room smells of sweat and has a big rip that somebody repaired with duct tape. There's not a single outlet in the larger upstairs suite's bathroom. The fountain in the courtyard stinks and needs to be scrubbed and the pump needs to be replaced.

Nothing fatal, just stuff that's hard to totally overlook. Overall, the conviviality and convenience made up for the firehouse's shortcomings, and I wouldn't hesitate to book it again for another large family or close friend get together.
