A one of a kind property on the National Historic Register of Homes. This Swedish cottage was originally built as a single story home in 1898. A meticulous restoration and addition of a full second story with Master Suite, 2 Bedrooms and an additional Sitting/Sleeping area was completed in 2001. The home was originally built as a single family residence and social gathering area for the early Swedish settlers. More recently, the home was visited by the King and Queen of Sweden during 'Karl Oscar Days,' the local festival that draws visitors from all over the state.
We are excited to share our private residence for the first time with others who appreciate architectural character and who are looking for more than just 'a week at the lake.' Don't get us wrong, you'll LOVE exploring all the pleasures of South Lindstrom Lake and the neighboring/connected Chisago Lake. Even in the busiest of seasons you'll find the lake extremely peaceful and unpopulated except for the many fisherman who come in search of trophy Bass and Northern Pike. We just think you'll enjoy your 'inside time' just as much in the comfort of the family room to watch a DVD or relaxing around the fireplace in the Great Room. Retire to your own private getaway in the Master Suite with the Whirlpool tub and sitting room with gas fireplace. With over 3800 square feet of living space, even the largest family or group can find privacy.
There is plenty to do in and around the tiny little town of Lindstrom. The city is known for its 'Coffee Pot' water tower and small shops and restaurants. Bring your own boat or rent one from Frankies Marina. Take a boat or walk to The Dinnerbel Restaurant just around the point and enjoy live music on the weekends. There are Paddle Boat rides on the St. Croix River in Taylors Falls, Outlet Malls in North Branch and water slides and skiing (in the winter) at Wild Mountain Resort. Or, just kick back and enjoy the sunsets from, what has been called, the best deck on the lake.

Guestbook comments from the owner
We held our annual family vacation in Lindstrom, MN this year and thoroughly enjoyed staying at the charming Swedish cottage. We loved the history and character of the house and greatly appreciated how well stocked with supplies it was including such things as bug spray and sunscreen, all provided for guest use. We rented a pontoon boat and spent many leisurely hours relaxing on the very quiet South Lindstrom lake. Lindstrom is a very sleepy town without many restaurant choices but that didn't concern us as we cooked all our meals at the house. The grill is located on a lovely deck that overlooks the lake. The grandchildren enjoyed fishing off the dock although the fish were small and were all returned to the water. This is the perfect spot for a quiet family vacation, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Jim and Caryn Casey purchased the home in 1999 and have spent summers there for the past 15 years. We split our time between Lindstrom and Southern California. As our children have grown we have less time to spend in Lindstrom and would like to share the home with other individuals or families who we hope will build as many wonderful memories there as we have.
We never intended to purchase the property as a rental, but as our lives have become more busy in Southern California we would rather share it with others when we are not able to be there. We fell in love with the area after living in the Twin Cities for years and wanting a retreat that was close enough to the cities, but far enough to feel like we were really getting away.
Peace and quiet best describes the setting. Although we have completely remodeled the interior with a new kitchen and bathrooms, we did our best to maintain the original character and floorplan of the house. Our carpenter, was a true craftsman and did an amazing job of recreating woodwork and trim to maintain the architectural integrity of the house. Most of the doors, windows and light fixtures on the main floor are original and if you look closely, you'll even see the 'flow' in the glass of the 115 year old windows!
Our golfing friends love the convenience of the public course a mere two minutes away. Rent a pontoon boat and enjoy evening cruises around the lakes. Fishing can be done off the dock or in many of the hot spots on the lake. We provide a 2-person Kayak for your added enjoyment.
