PEACE LODGE - NATURE, SECLUSION, AND ROMANCE

Dugspur Lodge Rental Photos and Description

Lodge, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

The beauty of Peace Lodge is its location. We are far removed yet still convenient to several points of interest. Visit our website listed under 'Links & Video' for a Portfolio - Interior, Exterior, and Aerial views, and see what really sets it apart.

This 'Mountain Getaway' is secluded on 27 acres that includes wildflowers, hardwoods, pines, mountain laurel, and creek frontage with easy access for fishing and canoeing. Wildlife is abundant, including deer, raccoon, bobcat, black bear, turkey and hawk.

This private luxury mountain retreat is located on Big Reed Island Creek in Dugspur, Virginia. Our retreat includes several unique features to make your getaway really special. They include the following: The master suite has an airbath tub for a relaxing bath for one or two. The first floor suite offers an aromatherapy steam shower. We offer both a wood burning fireplace and pellet woodstove.

The following attractions are located within 30 minutes or less:

New River Foster Falls Recreation Area; New River Trail; Blue Ridge Parkway, Mabry Mill, Meadows of Dan, Galax, and Floyd, VA.

Conveniently located 3.4 miles from Virginia Highway 58 in Dugspur. Please contact us for specific directions.

ACCOMMODATIONS:

This three level retreat offers a bedroom and full bath on each floor along with a full kitchen, dining area, and two living areas. It easily accommodates eight guests. Outdoors there is a large entertaining deck and three covered porches.

Upper Level

The upper level master suite features a king-sized bed and private bath with double vanities. For that romantic setting or private relaxation period, there is an airbath tub large enough to accommodate two. This bedroom offers expansive outdoor views as it opens to the living room from the balcony.

Main Level

The main level includes a fully appointed kitchen with stainless steel appliances - large refrigerator, range, microwave oven, and dishwasher. The dining room flows to the living room where a cozy wood-burning fireplace and large satellite HDTV flat-screen is situated for easy viewing. If you prefer, take in the fresh mountain air by simply opening the double patio doors to the custom deck overlooking the river below. A master suite with queen-sized bed and full bath with steam shower is luxuriously appointed on this level also. For easy listening of your favorite tunes or a lively party, a custom built stereo system pipes music into the living area to surely please the most avid listener.

Lower Level

The lower level offers much open space. It includes a full bath with a walk-in cultured marble shower, large vanity, and large capacity washer and dryer. The bedroom closes behind pocket doors and includes two twin trundle beds. The living area includes a toasty pellet stove, a satellite HDTV, X-box, games, and lots of space for fun. Walk outside onto the private patio and look across to the other mountainside and flowing creek below. Beginning at this level is a beautiful custom wood staircase that rises to the third floor. Whatever level you find yourself on, it can become the most private or lively area of the home. Take your pick as all will please.

The natural beauty of the mountains is perhaps the greatest attraction. When you choose this retreat, worries evaporate, you relax, and reflect on what is really important.

You may opt to canoe the endless miles of trout and nature filled creeks and rivers. Or inner-tube and float downstream all day. The closest body of water is Big Reed Island Creek located at the base of the property. Choose your own type of fishing day or hire a fishing guide for the 'hot spots'. We can assist here. Check out Greasy Creek Outfitters.

If photography is your past time by all means bring your camera. Wildflowers are abundant from late April through the fall. You could encounter deer, wild turkey, raccoon, our resident groundhogs, bob-cats, and yes, black bears. If you see a bear please don't try to approach it or feed it.

If you wish to venture out, you have 27 acres of mountain woods to stroll on. Avid hunters are also welcome. Please adhere to local hunting regulations, use extreme care in the woods, and do not shoot your guns across the river where several deer cross daily. We will advise where we recommend deer hunting endeavors. If you plan on extended hunting trips we gladly welcome a 'walk in the woods' before the season starts.

For the jogger or walker, if it is a workout you desire, simply walk or jog up the driveway! If you make it that far, there are miles of country roads with your own built in jogging trail right on the property. With over a mile of driveway on the property, you will soon learn that a few laps around the woods covered drive is very relaxing. A walk back down the driveway for your 'cool down' and it's off to the aromatic steam shower! For the more adventurous joggers, simply take a left or right out of the driveway and wear yourself out on the hills through the mountain roads. Happy jogging!

For all of those '12 ounce curl sports enthusiasts' who would rather work out on the back deck, I can not think of a better place to open a cold one, turn on the custom stereo, and enjoy a few tunes.

Peace Lodge was not bought. It was created and crafted over a three year period. We took the natural surroundings the good Lord gave us to work with and carved Peace Lodge right out of the side of the mountain. If you do not enjoy your stay we will gladly refund your money.

I do not care what you do for a living, the world is entirely too fast these days. At Peace Lodge we have created a natural and peaceful environment that is truly in touch with nature. Time does seem to slow down. When your vacation is over you will go home rested and relaxed. For my family that is what vacation is all about.

PEACE LODGE IS AMAZING

  • 5 of 5
Peace Lodge is truly an amazing place to stay. The architecture of the home, along with the equisite furnishings, is truly a sight to see. I also enjoyed the steam shower. Seriously, the owners pay attention to every detail, answered all of my questions and were responsive and friendly. The house was spotless, mattresses were comfortable and towels/linens were provided. We were a group of 9 and the kids really enjoyed tubing down the creek, reading on the porch, taking pictures, watching movies and going to the Fair in Galax. We can't wait to stay here again.

JUST GORGEOUS!!

  • 5 of 5
This is an absolute gem of a home hidden away in the woods. The details and worksmanship of the home is outstanding. Mark did a fantastic job in building this home. Our getaway to this home is just what the doctor ordered. It was so nice to be able to relax, unwind and de-stress. Thanks Mark for opening and sharing the Peace Lodge. Its so aptly named.

AN AMAZING ESCAPE!

  • 5 of 5
I'm truly not sure that words can do this home justice. It is a wonderful adventure in a beautiful location. If you need a break from the craziness of the 'real world' and want to be transported to a private quiet haven, look no further. The Peace Lodge was far more than we hoped. We hiked, explored, wandered up the river, fished, cooked, relaxed by a warm fire, played in the rain, and watched a gentle snow fall. Every detail was covered...we showed up with our groceries and needed nothing further. We loved the drive in on the shaded dirt road. You feel the stresses of the city fall away as you drive in through the trees. The owner is kind and helpful and we can't express how thankful we are that you shared this beautiful escape with us. All amenities go above and beyond. All is clean and organized. All is perfect! For all who need a place away from it all to relax and enjoy time with family and friends...you have found it!

LOVELY ISOLATED GETAWAY

  • 5 of 5
We rented the Peace Lodge for my husbands surprise 30th birthday party with a small group of guests. The owner Mark was very helpful and thorough with his directions and suggestions for local wineries. I would absolutely recommend this for a disconnect vacation, which is hard to come by these days!

WE HAD AN ADVENTURE!

  • 5 of 5
Myself and my grown/teenage children, along with a couple of their friends had a few days together at Peace Lodge. It's a beautiful lodge, built with love and care. Owner, Mark, has great pride in it, and helped us all along the way with details that would make our stay comfortable. He had plenty of fresh cut wood for us, and we built a beautiful fire each night. As others had noted, the driveway is remarkable! It has turned out to be a part of our adventure, though I recommend that you arrive during daylight hours. We spent some time at the creek at the bottom of the hill, though one needs to be in decent shape to make it up and down! We did not see bears, and I was rather glad for that. We had plenty of room for the six of us plus two dogs, so appreciative to find a lovely place that accepts pets as well. The kitchen was fully accommodating, it was a week before Thanksgiving, and we celebrated early by cooking a full dinner. We mostly relaxed and made our our own meals; our outing was at the nearby winery, which was beautiful. We have plenty of photos to remember our annual fall vacation at Peace Lodge, which was so memorable, thank you again, Mark!

Owner's Response: Thank you Jill for the words "we had an adventure!" as this is exactly what we want for everyone. Thank you too for sending the Christmas card with a picture by the creek of the children and dog! Beautiful! We are happy you enjoyed the early Thanksgiving dinner and hope that your traveled roads bring you back to Peace Lodge. Merry Christmas!

OUR ANNUAL FALL GET TOGETHER

  • 5 of 5
The Peace Lodge was a great place to share our Fall get together with friends. We are always seeking a place to stay that is close to Blacksburg and Virginia Tech football game. The lodge is such a relaxing peaceful place to stay. It was chilly, so we enjoyed the fireplace and outdoor fire chiminea ?sp. In fact we had a dusting of snow in the morning! Such a beautiful setting with the changing leaves and looking down on the river below. The lodge is well appointed, clean and we had all that we needed to cook. Mark told us that half the fun was the adventure of arriving at the house. It is situated down a dirt road that seems to keep on going the first time you travel it. Hang in there, it is worth the drive. We took Mark's advice and used his Durango down the final section of drive. What a great host to provide a vehicle for us to use as the driveway is quite steep. Our only regret was that we did not see any bears!! Perhaps they were hibernating.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the kind remarks. It means so much when everything "clicks" for our guests. We hope that you find your way back to our little piece of paradise overlooking Big Reed Island Creek. Take care and continue your travels in the Virginia mountains. For us it is the most peaceful place on earth!
