This three level retreat offers a bedroom and full bath on each floor along with a full kitchen, dining area, and two living areas. It easily accommodates eight guests. Outdoors there is a large entertaining deck and three covered porches.
The upper level master suite features a king-sized bed and private bath with double vanities. For that romantic setting or private relaxation period, there is an airbath tub large enough to accommodate two. This bedroom offers expansive outdoor views as it opens to the living room from the balcony.
The main level includes a fully appointed kitchen with stainless steel appliances - large refrigerator, range, microwave oven, and dishwasher. The dining room flows to the living room where a cozy wood-burning fireplace and large satellite HDTV flat-screen is situated for easy viewing. If you prefer, take in the fresh mountain air by simply opening the double patio doors to the custom deck overlooking the river below. A master suite with queen-sized bed and full bath with steam shower is luxuriously appointed on this level also. For easy listening of your favorite tunes or a lively party, a custom built stereo system pipes music into the living area to surely please the most avid listener.
The lower level offers much open space. It includes a full bath with a walk-in cultured marble shower, large vanity, and large capacity washer and dryer. The bedroom closes behind pocket doors and includes two twin trundle beds. The living area includes a toasty pellet stove, a satellite HDTV, X-box, games, and lots of space for fun. Walk outside onto the private patio and look across to the other mountainside and flowing creek below. Beginning at this level is a beautiful custom wood staircase that rises to the third floor. Whatever level you find yourself on, it can become the most private or lively area of the home. Take your pick as all will please.
The natural beauty of the mountains is perhaps the greatest attraction. When you choose this retreat, worries evaporate, you relax, and reflect on what is really important.
You may opt to canoe the endless miles of trout and nature filled creeks and rivers. Or inner-tube and float downstream all day. The closest body of water is Big Reed Island Creek located at the base of the property. Choose your own type of fishing day or hire a fishing guide for the 'hot spots'. We can assist here. Check out Greasy Creek Outfitters.
If photography is your past time by all means bring your camera. Wildflowers are abundant from late April through the fall. You could encounter deer, wild turkey, raccoon, our resident groundhogs, bob-cats, and yes, black bears. If you see a bear please don't try to approach it or feed it.
If you wish to venture out, you have 27 acres of mountain woods to stroll on. Avid hunters are also welcome. Please adhere to local hunting regulations, use extreme care in the woods, and do not shoot your guns across the river where several deer cross daily. We will advise where we recommend deer hunting endeavors. If you plan on extended hunting trips we gladly welcome a 'walk in the woods' before the season starts.
For the jogger or walker, if it is a workout you desire, simply walk or jog up the driveway! If you make it that far, there are miles of country roads with your own built in jogging trail right on the property. With over a mile of driveway on the property, you will soon learn that a few laps around the woods covered drive is very relaxing. A walk back down the driveway for your 'cool down' and it's off to the aromatic steam shower! For the more adventurous joggers, simply take a left or right out of the driveway and wear yourself out on the hills through the mountain roads. Happy jogging!
For all of those '12 ounce curl sports enthusiasts' who would rather work out on the back deck, I can not think of a better place to open a cold one, turn on the custom stereo, and enjoy a few tunes.

Peace Lodge was not bought. It was created and crafted over a three year period. We took the natural surroundings the good Lord gave us to work with and carved Peace Lodge right out of the side of the mountain. If you do not enjoy your stay we will gladly refund your money.
I do not care what you do for a living, the world is entirely too fast these days. At Peace Lodge we have created a natural and peaceful environment that is truly in touch with nature. Time does seem to slow down. When your vacation is over you will go home rested and relaxed. For my family that is what vacation is all about.
Thank you for a wondeful stay. The home is beautiful !! We had a great time. We would recommend a toaster :) Thanks for the kind comments. Regarding the toaster, got one!
I'm truly not sure that words can do this home justice. It is a wonderful adventure in a beautiful location. If you need a break from the craziness of the 'real world' and want to be transported to a private quiet haven, look no further. The Peace Lodge was far more than we hoped. We hiked, explored, wandered up the river, fished, cooked, relaxed by a warm fire, played in the rain, and watched a gentle snow fall. Every detail was covered...we showed up with our groceries and needed nothing further. We loved the drive in on the shaded dirt road. You feel the stresses of the city fall away as you drive in through the trees. The owner is kind and helpful and we can't express how thankful we are that you shared this beautiful escape with us. All amenities go above and beyond. All is clean and organized. All is perfect! For all who need a place away from it all to relax and enjoy time with family and friends...you have found it!
Our family chose this place since it was equi-distant for the four families to meet. We didnt know what we were getting ourselves into since we sort of took a chance and just booked the place close to the travel date. It turned out to be perfect! The weather cooperated greatly and we had couple lunches out in the deck in December and the kids went down to the river in their tshirts.
Since it was a family getaway, it was great that there werent ANY commercial distractions for us. Read the other reviews and the owners description. Yes, you need a AWD to get down the last 1300 feet, its pretty steep. Although it was adventurous for us urban folks to get there, it certainly was part of the fun in retrospect. Go with an open mind and follow the owners directions. No cell reception there, so you can spend all quality time with the near and dear. A truly great place in the middle of nowhere; I would go there again just for the breath-taking starry sky and to wake up in the morning and see a few deer walking along the river.
The place is well stocked, considering its location. Must do for anyone, imho!
We went to the Peace Lodge for a weekend getaway with another couple. The house is beautiful and very well equipped, including a well appointed kitchen, wood stove, steam shower, etc. The view of the river is amazing. We took several walks up the driveway, which is a bit challenging and great exercise. The only (very minor) issues we encountered were not being able to figure out how to get the pellet stove in the lower level to work, nor the air jets in the upstairs tub. Still had a great, relaxing weekend, even though it rained the entire time!
> My husband Chris rented your home for us last weekend. I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you sharing it with us. I had absolutely no idea of what he had planned- it was a complete surprise! It was a wonderful surprise!! As you know, when we arrived it was dark so I had no idea what to expect. To wake up the next morning and see everything in the light was breathtaking! I absolutely loved it!! The home was beautiful inside as well as out. The views of the river and just the seclusion of it all was amazing! God has truly blessed you both with a wonderful place.
> Again thank you so very much for sharing your beautiful place with us and making our 20th anniversary so memorable. I hope that we can stay again in the future! Thank you both, The Moorefields- Martinsville, VA
Our family group consisting of 8 adults (ages 55 - 65 years old) searched for a place that would accommodate a group our size. Peace Lodge advertised to sleep 10 persons. PL is a beautifully designed structure with high end furnishings built into the side of mountain. Though we are accustomed to mountain roads even on motorcycles, we found the description of the property on several websites to be misleading & needs to be revised. The realtor among us found the property description quite vague & shocking.
Advertised sleeping 10 people, thankfully one couple in our party was not able to come at the last minute, as there were beds for only 6 people. A king, a queen and 2 good size twins. The twin beds are also trundle beds which means 2 more people—or 2 couples would have to sleep in same room. Perhaps owner is not aware a number of web sites referencing PL state it accommodates 10 persons as he indicated great concern the drain fields could accommodate 8 persons. This made no sense to contractors among us; if the drain field was approved for 8 persons to live there, then 8 persons for 48 hours should not be a problem. Seating at KIT table is for 5. Seating in LIV RM is for 5. Seating in REC RM is for 4 plus seating for 2 at game table. Seating for 6 on deck. View of river is non-existent except for a couple peek-a-boo places thru trees. Access down to river requires someone in excellent health who can climb lots of steep steps & chicken ladders.
The advertised statement “conveniently located 3.5 miles from Route 58” needs to be revised also & the word “convenient” removed. AFTER we had reserved PL, we were THEN informed a 4-wheel drive vehicle was REQUIRED to access the lodge. Owner believed our truck would make trip down to the lodge but not back up. He graciously provided 4-wheel drive Durango…which meant all belongings had to be transferred to his vehicle every time you went back down to house. The “convenient 3.5 mile drive to Rt. 58" is very narrow, winding, steep w/several switchbacks & almost no place wide enough to pass another vehicle. Driver is required to back up to wide spot in road so other vehicle can pass. Thankfully this happened to us only once when my brother had to back up approx. 1/4 mile on narrow, curvy road to allow other vehicle to pass.
Owner very friendly, accommodating and if an accurate description of the Peace Lodge works for you, then this is a fabulous place to get away.
Peace Lodge is truly an amazing place to stay. The architecture of the home, along with the equisite furnishings, is truly a sight to see. I also enjoyed the steam shower. Seriously, the owners pay attention to every detail, answered all of my questions and were responsive and friendly. The house was spotless, mattresses were comfortable and towels/linens were provided. We were a group of 9 and the kids really enjoyed tubing down the creek, reading on the porch, taking pictures, watching movies and going to the Fair in Galax. We can't wait to stay here again.
