Great Cabin, Beautiful Scenery

  • 4 of 5
We rented the cabin for a week of bicycling in the Asheville area. The cabin was clean, well appointed and very attractive. There were plenty of towels, tableware, laundry detergent and the other consumables you would expect. The sunrise view from the back porch and great room is nothing short of spectacular. The laundry facilities were excellent.

We only had two very minor complaints about the property. First the non-stick cookware was a bit worn and warped. That made it easy for food to stick and for the pans to develop hot spots and burn the food. This is a very minor complaint however and we were a group of athletes so we might have done more cooking in than most.

We also found a couple of light switches were simply mechanically worn out and did not work properly so you had to go into the great room for instance to turn on the kitchen lights because the 3-way switch in the kitchen wasn't working. This might have been a recent development since the cabin was otherwise very well maintained.

Overall this was a great rental property with just a couple of quirks. We're already contemplating a return trip.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the great feedback and I'm so glad you had a nice time. Please come back anytime. The cycling is great.
Thanks for the heads' up regarding the cookware. We will replace the worn pans asap.
Agree, the kitchen lights seen a bit quirky. They actually are controlled by two separate wall switches and one sort of "overrides" the other one, at times. The electrical circuitry and switches are safe and functioning as intended. Lori

Great Getaway!

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful time staying here for a week in mid-August. The owner is very helpful, friendly, and easy to work with, and the home is comfortable and very clean. It was easy to get to, although we did have trouble getting up the very steep driveway in our 15-passenger van the first night due to rain making it slick. We'd go back there in a heartbeat, and I'd definitely recommend it to family and friends. We had 8 people sleeping there with plenty of room to spare.

We regret never being brave enough to try navigating the other areas of the mountain, as we were told the falls are absolutely beautiful, but we were able to visit other falls in the area such as Linville Falls and Chimney Rock's falls. We also made a trip to Boone to see the outdoor drama "Horn in the West" which was great; even better was the dinner you can opt to purchase before the play starts - I'm still drooling over those homemade mashed potatoes! Our day at Chimney Rock ended with an excellent dinner at Larkin's on the Lake, just east of Lake Lure - their fall-off-the-bone ribs were superb. Probably our best surprise, though, was the little nearby town of Black Mountain. We stopped just to take some photos by the giant rocking chairs, and decided to walk around the basic-looking downtown area. Little did we know that there would be surprising little turns, alleys, side streets all full of charming shops, local artisans, and friendly locals full of tips. We absolutely loved it there. I'd personally pass on the My Father's Pizza restaurant that is apparently pretty poplular; the pizza and lasagna were both pretty uninspired.

Mountain getaway

  • 5 of 5
We had such a great, relaxing time at this house! It is a lovely, clean, well-furnished and well-equipped cabin! We were very comfortable, and it was just perfect for a little retreat! We were delighted to be able to bring our golden retriever -- who also had a great time! Lots of nice long walks! We all loved it! We love the layout of the house. It would be a perfect place to take our grown kids -- and their kids. We would highly recommend this house to anyone wanting to "get away from it all" and enjoy some time to relax and hike.

NYE Getaway

We vacationed here over the NYE holidays. The cabin was perfect, warm and inviting, with a very pretty view. It is tucked away on Gateway Mountain giving you peace and quiet and a sense of serenity but with Asheville just 45 min away.

This cabin was fabulous, the view was awesome and the privacy was great. My dad, husband, and brother in law were working in the Old Fort area, for 2 weeks. So our families went up to visit them for the weekend. It was a very relaxing environment. The fire pit was great a night. Thanks for allowing us to enjoy your cabin.
