We highly enjoyed staying with Cameron. He is a great host, we came as foreigners and left as friends.
The location can't be better on the whole island. We enjoyed running in the morning on the beach, which is just some minutes away. You can run for hours over the dunes, pass golf courses, get to other beaches. Camerons house is located in a very nice residential aerea, very quiet, great gardens, just perfect.
The suite itself has everything you need, is well equipped and whatever you might need in addition, Cameron will for sure provide. Some guests commented on this website, that the place needs refurbishment. My answer is: what do they expect for the price ? The place is clean and very charming, a little patina does not harm. If you want it excellent, you pay 4 times as much. We thought it was the perfect place for a very good price. We would always come back.
The two star designation is attributable to both a great location (Grand Hyatt is around the corner) and the price as compared to surrounding properties. My wife and I are both seasoned VRBO users and found this property lacking in so many ways. From late in the process reservation (made some 8 months in advance and confirmed by ownership) snafu's to the outright unkept presentation of the King Kam unit which has not aged gracefully. The negatives feature mildew lined shower curtain, screen door jury rigged with electrical tape in an attempt to hold it together, the clear over use of electrical outlets used to run some far less than new appliances, both of which are in need of disposal. If price and location are your only criteria then you are in the right place. If you desire more, then I would strongly encourage you to continue your search.
I stayed in the King Kam Suite for 4 nights and thought it was a great deal. I think this place is perfect for an independent traveler and offers excellent value. You get a big bedroom, a bathroom and full kitchen with a nice view out to the lawn. Everything felt secure and it's in a nice residential neighborhood convenient for beaches, restaurants, shopping and that kind of stuff. There's a lot of fun stuff within a ten minute walk. Cam was very accommodating and left loads of information along with an endless supply of soap, towels and other good beach stuff. I highly recommend it.
We were looking for a casual, inexpensive place in Poipu which offered a full kitchen and on-site laundry facilities. After searching through dozens of listings, the King Kam seemed to be the best choice for us. We stayed for three months and had a wonderful time. The house is just a few minutes walk to tennis courts, beaches, swimming pool, bars, restaurants and beautiful sunsets. Our host was always available, friendly and helpful. Saved a bundle on rent and purchased some nice art with the savings.
That said, do not expect 5-star accommodations at a 2-star price. It is an older house, so if you are a finicky type you are better off paying much more for higher end accommodations. We were more than happy for what we got for our money, especially in the high season. Highly recommended for those who are young-at-heart and activity oriented. A reasonable alternative in a pricey area.
We are a family of four with two young kids. We stayed in the Blue Hawaiian Suite and it was perfect. We cooked all our meals. It was clean and comfortable. Cam was a great host . Location was amazing, we could walk to the beach located by the Grand Hyatt. We stayed for three beautiful weeks. Thank you
Don't believe the pictures! Having just left the beautiful North Shore and a VRBO condo in Princeville, we were very excited about our stay in Poipu. We arrived early, before check-in and drove by the house. It was dismal and unkept. I immediately went to the VRBO site to review the photos of the King Kam suite that we had reserved in hopes of alleviating my worries. With the clear memory of the posted pictures in my mind, we entered our room and I gasped. It was NOTHING like the photos. I felt like I had walked into a one of those scary hostel movies- the furniture looked like it was picked up from the side of the road, the bathroom and bedroom were dark, the closet was musty and the screens in the "kitchen" had vines coming through them. The backyard looked like it had not seen a gardener for years and there was trash all over the yard. And to top things off, the window over the sink in the lanai/kitchen looked straight into someone else's bedroom! We immediately found another place to stay for only $50 more a night- this new place had four walls, an ocean view and was bright and cheery. Even though I lost my money since the owner was unable to give me a refund, the new place I found was well worth it! Lesson learned- don't believe the pictures! And, there are plenty of other affordable accommodations in Poipu. Honestly, all we wanted was a clean, bright room with acceptable furnishings and four walls…the least the owner could do is fix the holes in the screens!
We are at the top end of the Poipu Kai Resort Complex and that is the pool and Jacuzzi we use. We are just a one minute drive to Poipu Beach Park itself with plenty of free parking. There are 3 golf courses, two shopping centers and 3 tennis clubs within one mile of Lanai Villas and Starbucks is just half a mle away!
