Tucked back from the street, on Ledgelawn Avenue, is an adorable little cottage called the Little Green House. Visitors to the area have frequently photographed this sweet little cottage, with its little white picket fence and almost fairy tale presence. Located in-town Bar Harbor, Little Green House is within walking distance to everything the village has to offer: shops, dining, museums, The Shore Path, the Sand Bar beach, the town pier, Village Green, and the Island Explorer Bus stop. Everything is at your fingertips! And Acadia National Park is just 1 mile away!
This 2-story, 3 bedroom cottage features one queen bedroom and a twins bedroom, as well as the single bathroom on the second floor. The first floor features the living room (with gas fireplace), kitchen, dining area and a small den/bedroom with a double bed (sleeps a total of six).
Amenities include a dishwasher, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, blender, cookware and dining ware. There is a cable TV, a stereo, DVD player, and WIFI. There is a gas BBQ grill out on the landing in the back of the cottage, and front porch area. The cottage is also loaded up with baby furnishings like a pack 'n play, high chair, etc.
There is also off street parking for one car.
Acadia National Park is just minutes away, as is Kebo Valley Golf Course, public tennis courts, beaches, lakes, hiking and walking trails and much more! You can also kayak off the Sand Bar, just a few minutes away.
Very satisfied with our recent 1 week stay at the Little Green House. Correspondence with the property managers was efficient and effective. The house is clean and comfortable, and an easy walk to the downtown area including the grocery and drug stores - pictures and description here are accurate. Being towards the southern end of the town, it is also an easy, short drive to the loop drive in Acadia NP. We did hear amplified music from the church next door on Sunday and one weekday (even with windows and storm windows closed) for about an hour, but it wasn't unbearable. The kitchen had a toaster and a decent coffee maker, and a small assortment of essentials like olive oil, salt and pepper, baking powder, a few spices. Good collection of plates, glasses, and cutlery. A little short on cookware, in my opinion. The non-stick skillet had seen better days and most of the pots and pans (other than the lobster pot) are rather small. If you're cooking for 6 plan on batches. Plenty of sheets, pillows, towels, etc. of pretty good quality. Having the laundry in the house was a bonus, since we packed light and were out hiking every day. Nice to be able to do a load of wash in the middle of the week. We didn't use the flat screen TV at all, but I did jack my iTunes into the stereo, which was a nice and unexpected feature. With the programmable thermostats the house was comfortable and warm even though it was only in the high 30's to 40's at night. We had a couple of nighttime storms and didn't feel any drafts, which surprised us given the apparent age of the original cottage. Quality work was done on the renovation(s). If we go back to MDI we might stay in a different town for a change, but wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property for someone looking to stay near downtown Bar Harbor.
The house itself was exactly what we were looking for - a place to call home that was convenient to downtown shops and restaurants. We didn't bother renting a car and used the shuttle to get around Acadia. And this little house was a great place to come back to after hiking, climbing and biking all over the island.
Everything was clean and in excellent condition, and the layout was perfect. Decor was tasteful - especially nice master bedroom - it seemed like a lot of the furniture and appliances were pretty new. There is a little, fenced in yard which sets the house back from the street - great for little kids to play around outside without worrying about them running into the street.
Easy walk to some of our favorite restaurants: McKays, Havana, Cafe This Way, MDI Ice Cream. Also easy walk to village green and supermarket.
The only downside was the baptist church next door, which was running a camp that involved loud singing and shouting into microphones during the early evenings. Closing the windows screened out most of the noise, but there were definitely an hour or two where you needed to either close the house up or be out to dinner. Not the owners' fault at all, just something to be aware of.
Inconsiderate church group notwithstanding, we hope to return again next year! We've already recommended it to a lot of friends. Thank you so much for providing such a lovely place to stay.
Loved the location! Central to Bar Harbor and Acadia. House is clean, well-stocked and has all the conveniences of home. Newly decorated and painted. Washer/Dryer was a wonderful convenience for our family.
Only drawback was traffic noise on the street at night. That problem is easily solved by closing the windows on the front of the house.
