The Eagle's Nest is a rustic A-Frame located on over four acres with 200' Lake Michigan beach. It's on a high bluff so the views are amazing and the sunsets are incredible. Enjoy a large, white sandy beach, great swimming, and long walks in either direction. There are many stairs (shared with 1 other cottage) to the beach, with benches for resting on the way back up. Bald Eagles often soar along the coast. There's a deck both on the cottage and the bluff, with a fire pit and chairs, for sunset viewing and marshmallow roasting. The cottage is cozy and well kept and has new flooring throughout. This is the perfect spot for those who want to get away from it all, rest on the beach with a book, stroll in seclusion, bird watch, take photographs or just kick back and relax. The nearest store is 2 1/2 miles north. There's a great smokehouse, a local meat market, and a fresh fruit market (with petting zoo) all within an easy drive.

For larger groups, our brother and his wife also rent their cottage which is next door. Contact me if you are interested in additional lodging.

About Rachel Versluis

Chad and I live in Grand Rapids, Michigan, an hour from our cottage. I'm a homemaker and Chad's an industrial realtor. We have 3 children ranging in age from 20 to 15. Chad bought the property and built the A-frame in the early 80s and we've enjoyed the spending time here ever since.

This is the most relaxing place to go!

When we want something to do other than the beach, there are so many options like golfing, shopping, biking on the trails, watching the dune buggies at the sand dunes, the amusement park, restaurants, marinas, state parks, festivals, horseback riding and the rodeo.

What makes this cottage unique

I think that the views of the lake and sunsets while relaxing on the deck are some of the best you'll find south of Sleeping Bear dunes.

Silver Lake Sand Dunes is 20 minutes north where you can watch vehicles climbing the dunes, or rent one and try it yourself. Double JJ Ranch is 10 minutes east and offers rodeos, indoor water park, horseback riding, Championship Golf and other activities. The city of Whitehall is 20 minutes south and offers Michigan Adventures Amusement and Water Park which is Michigan's largest amusement park. Fishing piers, marinas, charter fishing, shopping, restaurants, laundromat and grocery stores are also available in Whitehall. Ludington is 40 minutes north and also offers piers, fishing, fishing charters, marinas, restaurants and shopping.

We were looking for a place to spend a week on Lake Michigan with fantasic views, an we found it! From INSIDE the cottage, you have a panoramic view of the lake from both the kitchen and living area through the 2 sliders on the lake side of the cottage. Step OUTSIDE onto the deck that spans that side of the cottage to enjoy your morning coffee, and afternnon beverage or a meal at the picnic table. At dusk, head out across the sweeping lawn to the bluffside patio to build a fire and enjoy the sunset with beautiful shoreline vistas. During the day, you can head down the 200 or so steps to what feels like your own private beach.

The accomodations are comfortable and clean. There are 2 bedrooms on the main floor and multiple beds in the large loft. The owners are friendly and easy to work with. We are returning in 2012.
