|Minimum Stay||2 - 7 nights|
The house is located in an old fashioned charming community called Banks O'Dee, on a creek right off the historic Potomac River. The community is very small and quiet, and the neighbors are very friendly!
The house itself is over 3000 square feet. The master bedroom is 20 x 26 with its own private bath, spiral staircase, and offers a 180 degree view of Cuckold Creek and Perry Branch. The family room features a wood burning fireplace, floor to ceiling windows, and access to the screened in porch. Three of the four bedrooms upstairs have access to the sunny deck for morning coffee and afternoon sunbathing. We have a large pier, boat ramp and a small sandy beach. It's not unusual to be sitting out in the yard, near the pier, and see bald eagles, osprey, swans & great blue heron doing their thing.

If you are looking to go somewhere, very private, very quiet, to get away from the craziness of suburban life, this is the place. No cars driving by all the time, all you hear are the sounds of nature! Birds, ducks, fish splashing, a boat going by once in a while. The kind of noise you just don't mind!
House was nice and clean. It was big enough for the 3 families that went. Had everything from board games, canoe, fishing rods, and cook ware. Frank was very quick in responses and helpful. Only minor thing was wifi limited to 5gb and one person was on call at work. We ran out because it rained so we had to stay indoors for a day. Otherwise, everything else was great and would return next time.
We were pleasantly amazed how quiet the neighborhood is and how tranquility seemed to set in almost immediately upon entering the driveway! The wildlife alone, we saw Ducks, Seagulls, Bald Eagles, Blue Heron and some of their nests were in these towering evergreen trees that are along side of the home. It was truly amazing! We used the canoe that is on the property and really took advantage of some photo moments while on the creek. We all had such a wonderful time, I am sorry it is taking me so long to write this. If you re looking to get away from it all... this is the place to go to!
Banks O'Dee is a pleasant 4 bedroom home which is as described and pictured. This is a rural setting with nice waterfront and 1:20 from downtown DC in reasonable traffic. This would be a great place for a family gathering and worked out well for us and our small dog. There is a nice dog park at Turkey Hill Rd and 301. We also found an excellent place for doggie day care (ADDO on US-1 in Alexandria and 2 other location) to leave the dog when touring indoors in DC. We had no problem with him on a leash near the memorials as long as one person stayed with him just outside the memorial. Old Ebbitt Grill valet let us park 50 feet from the valet stand with him in the car.
Capt John's Crab House on Cobb Island was good and close, but we preferred Gilligan's Pier on Pope's Creek Rd. Texas BarBQ on the south side of La Plata on 301 was great for take out on the way home.
The house was clean and had comfortable chairs and beds. The broadband ran at about 1.5mb which is pretty good for how far out in the country you are (I think it was satellite like the TV signal).
The only real negative we had was having to wash, dry, and fold the bedding and towels before we left which means you cannot leave for 2 to 3 hours after you get up on your last day, and we only used 2 beds. Doing 1 or 2 loads of wash would be fine, but drying does take a while.
I greatly enjoyed this vacation home. This home is set in the back end of a dead end street where you feel like your in the middle of no where. On the drive in, saw about one to two dozen deer.
In the evenings, sitting on the dock fishing almost felt eerie as it was so quiet. There is barely a current unless its windy. There is no traffic noise or sounds of civilization. All you hear is the sounds of birds, owls, fish splashing, and the ducks. The fishing is ok but all that we caught were very small fish. In the week of fishing, never saw anything over 6 inches but they were biting on every cast. If you want to catch the big ones, probably best to do a Potomac charter.
We caught about a dozen blue crab with the provided traps over the course of the week. Ended up eating at Gilligan's Pier for the blue crab which had an all you can eat for 25$. Not a bad deal.
The home itself was great. Lots of space and it was clean and up kept. Nice modern kitchen with anything you would need to cook with. Plenty of movies and games on hand as well. Everything the owner listed was as is.
Frank was always fast with a reply on any question we had and if we ever come back to Maryland, would stay here again. Thanks!
My family absolutely loved our stay in this lovely home. The house was much bigger than we anticipated and there was plenty of room for everyone if they needed to get away from the group for a minute. The neighbors were VERY nice, the neighborhood is clean, quiet, and pretty secluded. We were visited by all the wildlife, just as promised - the ducks, the osprey, the bald eagles and so much more! No crabs though (a bit early in the season for them)! They stayed away...but lots of catfish and perch were biting!
Thanks for sharing your home with us. It was a really wonderful weekend! When we got home, we all felt a little blue and dragged our feet to work/school the next day. Even the dog seemed sad to leave!
Wonderful home and property! The home is situated in a quiet and well maintained neighborhood. You will instantly relax upon arriving...
The property is in excellent condition and the owners have made it feel like home. From the large selection of kitchen appliances/utensils to an expansive DVD collection, everything is there! The rooms are large and every room (but one) has views of the water. The morning sunrises were amazing!
We enjoyed exploring the large creek and nearby island with the canoe. We also took advantage of the amazing dock and fished everyday we were there....and there are a lot of fish!! Crab traps were also provided. We spent every evening relaxing in the screened porch playing games and watching the wildlife. The family of ducks were adorable and the variety of birds were too many to count!
There are more than enough activities to keep you busy at the house but if you are looking for a day trip, VA is just over the bridge with historic sites, restaurants, shopping, and a winery. MD also offers many restaurants and shopping within 15 minutes.
We will be returning for another stay......thanks for a great getaway!
