Our superior gites are located in Indre et Loire, Department 37. The Abbaye, surrounded by pretty little villages also has easy access to the motorway networks and is on the doorstep to culture with a lovely landscape for walking or cycling. We are surrounded by pretty, romantic chateaux, museums, vineyards and caves, market towns selling locally produced foods, galleries and the Atlantic coast is roughly two hours away. The Abbaye not only makes a successful base from which to explore the area, it is a place for you to relax and take pleasure in the quiet and breath-taking beauty of the historic setting, closing out the possibly stressful demands of modern living.
Our village, Luze, has the quaint little bar on the corner, facing the old church. The church retains its role as fundamental to the community; the bells toll each morning, calling the farmers to work. It tolls again for them to stop for lunch, resume after and finally, at the end of the day, for them to finish work and enjoy a 'pastis' in the bar. Fortunately, the toll does not reach us! Our closest town is Richelieu, a 'walled cite', built by Cardinal Richelieu, an ally of Louis XIV. Richelieu is of a grid construction with very impressive houses, a park, historic market hall, opened on most days and cafe bars situated around the square.
