Our offering to you; this unit; the entire ground level of The Palmer House we call 'Gracie' for its charm that remains from its 1906 origin! It is well lit with north and east wall windows sporting a 'sunny' disposition! The tastefully painted colors only enliven its sunny rays! It is now fully furnished; two queen bed, one full/queen size futon sofa couch. The kitchen is efficiently stocked to serve 6-8 an easy spaghetti dinner after skiing Anthony Lakes or riding the Elkhorn or boating/fishing the local and beautiful Philips reservoir! The decor is colorfully pulled together to create an atmosphere of fun with sincerity intertwined! Drink your morning coffee in the Sun Room and watch the local Baker neighborhood scene go by! The location is in the 'fringe' of downtown - the heart of where local Baker City livin' starts! Leave your car at the curb and walk to art museum (1block), have coffee or lunch at happenin bakery', grab a libation @ the local brewery or hear live music at the wine bar! Just step out Gracie's door! The Palmer House guarantees clean, clean, clean! High speed internet and cable tv included. Google 'visitbakercity' for more local information!
HELLO! We are owners Kelly Esterbrook and Jimmi Terhaar. We love BAKER CITY and coming over to ski, hike, ride our bikes and most of all working on The Palmer House! We found it, fell in love with it and felt it deserved the respect of its graceful, prominent lore in Baker history! So we have endeavored to bring it new color and creative life working on it when we can s l o w down (what we love about Baker!) and get there from our hometown of Bend, OR. We hope you enjoy the Palmer House as we endeavor....to restore...create..and color...it with NEW LIFE!
We really got excited about Baker City, coming from Bend and having been long time residents of Bend; Baker was like the 'OLD BEND' only with more history in its buildings. Downtown is so very cool...big stone buildings..old Victorian houses.. We came to ski Anthony Lakes and loved the small community of skiing there. The Nordic while small is world class! Snow is light and fluffy! We feel a slower pace the minute we hit town!
We love the detail of 'this OLD HOUSE! The higher ceilings, the antique moldings and stained glass.. the roominess of it all! It has 2 living rooms with a beautiful old fireplace ( now with safe electric fire ambience)! I especially love the Sun Room.... relaxing...
I have lived in a lot of apartments and rented houses in my life. Of all the places I've lived, I've never enjoyed a place as much as my seven-month stay in the Palmer House, Baker City, Oregon.
This historical house was built in the early 1900s and was the home of a prosperous businessman who also was the mayor. The quiet neighborhood is just minutes from the historical downtown and is surrounded by beautiful Victorian style homes. When the current owners bought this house, it was in rough shape, but they lovingly restored the four apartments into great places to live.
During my seven months stay, I have lived in three of the four apartments -- the studio, the 1-bedroom and the 2-bedroom, so I can attest to the quality of all of these. Each apartment comes fully furnished. By "fully furnished", I mean everything is provided: furniture, linens, towels, appliances (even blenders and coffee makers) and all the utensils, dishes and flatware. All you need when you move in here is to bring your clothes and buy some food. You also have free cable TV, wi-fi Internet access and laundry facilities.
All the apartments are furnished with comfortable and attractive used furniture. The owners have excellent decorator tastes and have painted the rooms colorfully. I would describe the style as eclectic and funky. Anyone who visits me always compliments how nice the apartments look.
And finally, I have to comment on the owners of Palmer House -- they are two of the nicest people. They are very professional in handling the business of checking references, getting the lease done and getting you moved in efficiently. The apartments are professionally cleaned by their own crew, and they regularly perform preventive maintenance and make improvements to the apartments to keep them looking fresh and attractive. They provide a great place to live and they seem to attract good, quiet tenants.
I highly recommend living in the Palmer House. I hate to leave here, but I am moving abroad.
Our choice to stay at the Palmer House, "Gracie" turned out to be the perfect space. What a wonderfully bright clean place with big rooms to spread out and cosy sitting areas to relax. Loved coming home after a delightful ski at Anthony. Plus only a few blocks to walk to the brewery for dinner, and wine bar. And if you dig on kitchen stores you won't want to miss the one downtown. We give "Gracie" an easy 5 stars for comfort, location and cleanliness. Can't wait to come back and stay again.
We stayed in the downstairs “Gracie” unit with 2 other couples during spring break week. You won’t be disappointed. The place is well thought out and well equipped. When we cooked, the kitchen provided everything needed. There was plenty of room to spread out and hang out and be comfortable. The bedrooms are big. Oh, it’s important for you to know – “Gracie” is clean! We drove from Baker City north to snow shoe, ski and skate ski at Anthony Lakes. If you like snow play or just want a beautiful drive, Anthony Lakes is a must see. The snow conditions are excellent and there were no crowds (remember, we visited spring break).
Sunshine is the perfect name for this bright, quiet apartment; it's as bright as any summer's day. It felt just like home and is very conveniently located for whatever you want to do in downtown Baker City. The owner is easy to work with and the place was spotless. It's the perfect place for a couple looking for a few days away.
The "sunshine apt" in Baker City is fabulous! Perfect walk to everything location from charming old world neighborhood. Very comfortable, nicely decorated and furnished with everything you need. Kelly (Owner) was extremely kind and helpful as well. I was here to take advantage of incredible motorcycle riding through gorgeous scenery on empty roads which it offers in seemingly endless abundance. Outdoors enthusiasts, hiking, biking, fishing etc. will no doubt be in heir elements as well. Baker City is really cool. Like a step back in time. Feels very safe and the people are quite friendly. I enjoy walking to town for dinner, then taking a longer stroll through the neighborhoods to marvel at the beautiful old homes that you can buy for a song compared to the Bay Area where I live. Hmm? Am I moving? Maybe later. I highly recommend a trip to Baker City and especially Kelly and her "sunshine apt".
The Palmer House is 1 block from the Art Museum and 2 miles from the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center. Just 2 blocks to restaurants, antiquing and historic downtown BAKER CITY!!
