This home away from home is truly that; a home. The house and yard are comfortable and well maintained. The location is convenient for local hikes and day trips. We used the kayaks, canoe and pedalboat daily. The town beach is within walking distance and although we swam off the dock at the house the kids enjoyed going over to the beach to jump off the diving board. Using the firepit and roasting marshallows was a nightly event. Take time to make a day trip to the Adirondack Museum it is wonderful for all ages. Its about a 1 hour drive. Less than 1 mile north on route 30 is Mountain Memories Cafe. They serve a delicious but inexpensive lunch. In Speculator behind the department store is a cafe that has GREAT coffee and a good breakfast. Brian couldn't have been a nicer host. I would highly recommend staying at this house. Two suggestions: Stop in Perth to grocery shop for the week. There is a Grand Union in Northville(10 minutes south) and Charlie Johns in Speculator(10 minutes north) I used both for picking up odds and ends. Second go to the Chamber of Commerce in Speculator(on route 30 by charlie Johns) it has a wealth of information about exploring the Adirondaks. Take at least one short hike and you'll be hooked. We had a very peaceful vacation and I didn't want to leave.
