Why Lonnie/Tioni chose Mauna Kea
The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is our favorite hotel on the Kohala Coast. It has kept the old Hawaii charm and feel. The Villas are not overbuilt (like many of the other resorts) with lovely, large trees and lots of colorful plants. There is usually music and hula at the bar around sunset and the beach is the best on the island. The Hapuna beach is quite nice, as well. The short walk down the street to the switchback path that goes by the driving range makes it easy to go back and forth to the hotel or the beach from the villa. It really adds to the relaxing atmosphere of the place. We also like the location of the resort as it is the farthest north, so it rarely gets the vog (volcanic fog) and a drive to Waimea, Kawaihae Harbor, or Hawi is a quick one.
