Overview

Gaiole in Chianti Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 4

La Corbina sits by itself near the top of a hill, with an astonishing view of surrounding hill-top villages, the unblemished valley below and undulating hills in the distance. La Corbina is nestled between a small vineyard and olive groves and is part of a small working farm. The house itself is a restored stone farmhouse which was originally built in the 18th century. This freestanding house is the only rental unit. The two of us live in a small stone house next to the farmhouse with our two cats and two dogs. We lovingly restored the farmhouse using the building materials we found on the site, supplemented, where necessary, with antique building materials such as terracotta floor and roof tiles and stone sinks. It was for years our own home and therefore feels like a home, not a rental property.

Details: Our design philosophy is 'less is more' and everything is of the highest quality. The furniture is a mix of new designer pieces and antique, rustic furniture with simple, straight lines. We make our own wine and olive oil and have two vegetable gardens. The crop depends on the season and includes a wide variety of vegetables such as tomatoes, zucchini, eggplants, peppers, tomatillos, peas, beans, leaks, artichokes, cabbage, sun chokes and many more. We use organic methods for the cultivation of our plants. The property also has fruit trees and berry bushes. If you enjoy cooking, you can pick your vegetables and herbs right in front of the house. Our large (14 x 7 meter) infinity pool sits above the house on top of the hill and has breathtaking views. There are several areas with tables and chairs around the house which invite to al fresco meals. The kitchen is very well appointed and a dream for the passionate chef.

Accommodations: The house is about 160 square meters (about 1,700 square feet) on two levels with a split level kitchen. The bedrooms are spacious (25 square meters / 270 square feet). The upstairs bedroom has a large bathroom with an open shower. The downstairs bedroom has a bathroom with a big, deep custom made bathtub and a separate shower. The kitchen is also spacious with 30 square meters / 320 square feet, has a lot of white marble counter space, two big sink areas, and an antique kitchen table that can be expanded to seat up to ten people. The living room is relatively small (20 square meters / 215 square feet) but cozy with a large wood burning fire place.

Outdoors: The covered upstairs balcony never gets too hot, even on the hottest days. There is always a light breeze to keep you cool. The deep teak bench with its thick mattress is the ideal space to ''recover'' from a long, lazy lunch. The balcony also has stunning views of the valley below and the hill top villages nearby. Outside the kitchen there is an enormous marble table which seats twelve guests and which has beautiful morning sun. Here you are also surrounded by potted herbs and have a view of the small vineyard next to the house. There are many more spaces around the house and the pool which wait for you to be discovered!

Perfect Relaxation

  • 5 of 5
This past July/August my husband and stayed at La Corbina, as guests of Paul and Nicole, two gracious and accommodating hosts. The spectacular villa, a former barn and stable, was lovingly renovated by Paul and Nicole perched on top of a beautiful hillside in Tuscany at the end of a long road. The house is serene and comfortable with views of the neighboring hills in every direction. It is surrounded by lush flowering gardens, a fledgling vineyard, and fruit trees. It is exactly what one might dream about when one thinks of a traditional Tuscan villa with all of the modern conveniences. It was equipped with everything we needed for our 10-day stay. We had our choice of terraces where we enjoyed the gentle summer breezes that also blew through the upstairs bedroom at night and we loved sitting the in big kitchen to eat, although there were two outdoor dining areas available. Just a few steps up the hill from the villa is a large, refreshing, and very private infinity pool with a terrace where we spent many an hour. We found ourselves so relaxed and comfortable that we did not want to leave, although the villa is well-located for venturing off to the local sights and for roaming the Tuscan countryside. Our thanks to Paul and Nicole for their hospitality and for providing such a tranquil and extraordinary retreat.

Perfect Tuscan Escape

  • 5 of 5
My fiancée and I spent a week at La Corbina with two friends and the four of us had an amazing experience. The secluded rustic farmhouse is positioned on top of a hill with amazing distant views of the area. Some of my favorite moments were simply exploring the property and enjoying the silence and beautiful scenery.

The house has many modern amenities (such as Apple TV), a fireplace we used almost every night, a great kitchen (we used this every day), and has been lovingly renovated by owners Paul and Nicole (the door in the downstairs bathroom cabinet is a nice detail).

Paul and Nicole (who live next door) welcomed us upon our arrival and gave us a useful tour. They stocked the house with many basics but whenever we needed something they were available and responsive. They could not have been better hosts to the four of us.

La Corbina is not your avergae getaway. It's a unique experience I can't wait to relive all over again.

Beautiful & Secluded Tuscan Home Perfect for 4

Beautiful & Secluded Tuscan Home Perfect for 4

We had an amazing time at La Corbina! From the moment we arrived at the gates we were transported to an Italian paradise.

The house has the perfect combination of old world charm and modern simplicity. My favorite part of the house was the upstairs shower. It's large and open with these beautiful tiles. And the hot water felt great after a long day in the cool, winter climate. Also, the bed was comfy and all the linens were just as nice as a five star hotel. Personally, the pictures online don't do this place justice!

The hosts's home is walking distance which was really helpful when we had a question about getting more wood for the fireplace, where to put the recyclables, how to get to the Prada outlet, etc. They were beyond helpful and gracious. They provided not only restaurant/sightseeing tips but also a couple items from their Italian garden for us to use in the kitchen! They also weren't on top of us - we really only saw them when we wanted to! So privacy is not an issue at La Corbina.

I would absolutely recommend La Corbina to anyone that wants a vacation that's not ordinary. If you like big hotels and a lot of people around, this is not your bag. The home is unique for Tuscany: secluded with beautiful views and it's so quiet that you can hear yourself think. Great for couples or a tight group of friends. Great for someone that needs some peace in a tranquil spot (with a nice glass of wine).

We are planning to hopefully come back in the summer so we can use that beautiful pool!

Did we drive off the dirt road and end up in heaven?

  • 5 of 5
I had been planning my 50th birthday trip for over a year. I stumbled upon La Corbina during a brief search and afterwards no other place could compare. I didn't care where in Tuscany it was and didn't care how much it cost. Luckily my husband was in agreement!
I had high expectations but feared that maybe I built it up in my mind too much and that it was too good to be true. Driving along the long, winding, dirt road as we approached the house the excitement started to build. I barely remember shaking Paul and Nicole's hands as they came out to greet us. I saw the place I had been dreaming about and it was real and EXACTLY as I had hoped. Paul quickly took us inside and gave us a tour of the house. I tried to be polite and ask good questions but I think I was in shock. I was anxious for him to leave us alone so I could open a bottle of wine and attempt to calm down and take it all in. The rest of our stay was a dream. The house is perfect, the gardens beautiful, the views amazing. I still cannot describe it accurately and after looking at my many photos there is not one that does it justice. Nicole went out of town while we were there but Paul took excellent care of us. He suggested day trips that we enjoyed. We gathered local foods and wine during our morning drive but could never find a place that we wanted to spend more than an hour or two. Nothing compared to our afternoons and evenings at La Corbina. We grilled fresh meat, picked ripe garden tomatoes for a salad, found peaches for dessert and stirred up a risotto with many of the ingredients that came stocked in the wonderful kitchen. Trying to decide which outdoor porch to sit on was the toughest decision of the evening. I am so grateful to Paul and Nicole for creating their special haven and sharing it with us!

Another amazing review of La Corbina :)

  • 5 of 5
Every review for La Corbina is positive and glowing and now that we've spent a week there in June, we know why! It is one of the most amazing places we've stayed at with some of the loveliest and interesting hosts we've met in our travels.

Home: meticulously renovated true Tuscan farmhouse (done by Paul, the owner!) with every modern amenity you would need and more (i.e.: wireless surround sound to stream your iTunes!). Amazing chef like kitchen with every appliance for a simple breakfast to a gourmet meal. Paul and Nicole also provide a lot of the ingredient to help get you started, including great wine from the vineyard down the street to superb olive oil from their own backyard olive grove!

Grounds: abundant garden for veggies and fruit, many outdoor areas to hang out and eat from as well as a pool/lounge area overlooking the whole valley. We really liked it that Paul and Nicole lived in the other farmhouse on the property. We still enjoyed absolute privacy when we wanted yet it was awesome to have them close by to help with anything. They were so valuable in helping us plan our schedule while there. But the place is so lovely that you will probably be very torn in leaving it to sightsee!

The location is secluded (would suggest a car with some decent horsepower) but you are rewarded with peaceful silence and out of this world views of the hills and valleys. It is also still very central to a lot of the big towns in Tuscany (i.e.: Siena, Florence etc).

Thank you Paul and Nicole for sharing your home with us.

Living a Dream

  • 5 of 5
What a gift! Being here is like living in a painting. Each hour more beautiful than the last. This home is spectacular. It has every amenity you could ever want and yet it still feels charming and authentically Tuscan. Nicole and Paul are fantastic people who go out of their way to make you feel at home. We loved picking vegetables from the garden and cooking in the beautiful kitchen each night and then enjoying some local wine by the fireplace. We took day trips to Arezzo, Sienna and Montevarchi. All three towns/cities are within 1 hour drive of the home. I tend not to travel to the same places twice (I mean there's a whole world out there to see) but I am already planning a return trip here for next year. That is how special it is.

Our local area is off the beaten tourist tracks on a hill overlooking a secluded valley. The nature and views here are fantastic and it is completely peaceful. You can lounge and relax, swim or take walks in the country side. La Corbina is a rural, isolated place and the access roads for the last five kilometers are not paved, but are maintained gravel, stone and dirt. If you want to ever leave this place, Siena, Montalcino, Arezzo, Cortona and Florence can all be reached in around an hour or less by car. We can also help you find the best vineyards and restaurants in the area.
