Hawaii is our retreat from the rest of the world. We love the warm trade winds and sunrises and sunsets. We love to hike and explore, snorkel and swim. My son loves to surf. We are staying!
Jo Dean purchased this house in 2005
We fell in love with Ocean View Ranchos on our way South when we pulled in OV for some road supplies. We thought what a sweet quaint town this is and wanted to see more so we headed straight towards the ocean to see what other Hawaiians where building here. After looking around at all the different lots and checking on the resources we realized this is where we wanted to build our dream home and make this historic place beautiful the way it should be with lots of flowers, plants and love for this awesome place.
The rainbows and weather patterns that occur out over the ocean which is viewed from the lanai are unbelievable. The warm trade winds that feel like velvet on your skin. The freshest and cleanest air I have ever experienced that I noticed while on my jogs and walks. The sunrises and sunsets are so pretty I cannot seem to get enough of them.
Upon our arrival late Christmas night, we were greeted by a celestial show of stars before we even made one step inside the house. At that point, we felt safe to say that our trip was destined to be a success. The pictures of the home do not depict the interior's size. The master bedroom was huge with large picture windows and screens which we opened to enjoy the ocean's breeze. From the porch we could spy the most southern point in the U.S. Our location was advantageous in visiting both sides of the Big Island. We were able to leisurely tour and hike portions of Volcano National Park which wasn't too far away. We visited the black and green beaches of the area and even witnessed a large turtle resting on the sand. We contacted the owners several times and they were more than helpful to direct us to the beach below the house- kind of a hike, but we endured. We do extensive research on vacation homes we rent and were well satisfied in selecting this house as our base for our Big Island adventures. If you thrive in a busy, noisy locale, you might consider somewhere else. However, if you like solitude, no sirens, no barking dogs, no loud trucks, no hot rod cars, or rowdy neighbors, then you have found the right location. We don't think you will regret it.
We have really loved our stay in your vacation rental. What a great house you have here. We just built a new home last year and in many ways it is like your place. Open floor plan, large kitchen with island and lots of work space. Lots of windows with great views, we just see trees and the outline of the mountains near Colorado Springs. You did a great job of design.
We hope to come back. Only 40 minutes to wonderful sights of Volcanos, great hiking, even cliff jumping for the adrenalin junkies nearby.
We did a tiny bit of repair as my sister-in-law's man got a allen wrench to tighten the fridge door handle. The master bed breaker seems to be holding now, thanks for getting that done so fast. Our new house had a breaker that was that way too..they are so sensitive.
A removable sun shade (Costco is where we got ours), would spare us pale mainlanders from the tropical sun while in the hot tub during the day. Great place, loved it, would come again in a heartbeat.
5 Adults stayed here for a week then moved to a timeshare on the Kona Coast. The timeshare was fine but this place was fabulous. Every detail was taken care of and very nice from the supplies in the kitchen to the sure fine soft sheets on the bed. We had one small issue, we contacted the owners and it was taken care of immediately. No problems. I could go on and on but read the other reviews and you will get the idea of how nice this place is and where it is located. Got for it you will love this place. We had a hard time going out sightseeing some days as it was so very lovely at home.
We (two couples) stayed at this rental home for one full week and found it a great retreat from the hustle and bustle of towns we could have chosen. Its location close to the southern tip gave us easy access to either side of the Big Island and we could plan accordingly, not having to retrace driving miles, making this a time saver for us. The quiet and solitude of the lava fields were unique and serene, the 360 degree clear view of the area enjoyable, giving us a sense of weather for each day, and making us feel like we were in our own little corner of the world. We liked its proximity to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in particular as we visited that several times. It was a pleasant drive from there on into Hilo where we visited the Hawaii Tropical Botanic Garden, a plant enthusiast must, and had a great dinner at Cafe Pesto on the bay. We were able to combine a trip to the Punalu'u Black Sand Beach with one of our visits to the Volcanoes park on one day. Another day we drove easily from the house to Pu'uhonua O Honaunau Historic Park south of Kona which was a short drive or walk from Two Step beach, a great place for beginner snorkelers. I liked that we could take a quick drive from the house to the small Ocean View market right on Highway 11 for groceries, although we found cheaper gas right around the corner at Kahuku Country Market. People were friendly and helpful at both places. The drive to drop off our trash and get drinking water took planning, but there was always something to look at along the way. Had we wanted to cook a gourmet meal the house's kitchen and all of its counter space, utensils, pans, and convenience would have made that easy. One couple enjoyed the hot tub several nights and there was room for all of us to spread out in the evenings and unload cameras or plot out the next day's adventures, with windows open and overhead fans to keep us cool. It was great not to have the humidity at the house we experienced in the Kona area. The little Gold Dust geckos that lived in the lanai area were like little colorful mascots. Mark was very helpful by phone with a couple of simple problems we had when we first got there. Mark and Jo Dean provided clear written instructions about the house and the renting process. The place was spotless, beautiful, and comfortable. All four of us enjoyed staying there and we would do so again.
Amazing expansive view of lava field, ocean, clouds, and sky stacked in layers from the porch. Absolutely gorgeous home includes all the amenities, extras like telescope, outdoor play equipment & fresh papaya sourced from the tree out front. Nice breeze flows most of the time, open sky hot tub great for stargazing, big showers and airy space throughout. Hubby liked how wired and connected the house was. Saw very few neighbors during the daytime and almost non-existent at nighttime… a peaceful retreat amongst the rawness of the lava rocks. Relatively close to everything of interest south half of the island. That oasis to the south (Kanonone waterhole) is just a short hike away.
Mahalo for sharing your beautiful home with us, we loved our stay. Would definitely recommend this unique rental to others!
My fiancé and I and another couple stayed here for 4 nights and it is absolutely fantastic! It is in an amazing location that is unlike anywhere else in the world. You are surrounded by volcanic rock all the way to the beach. The location is quiet, dark, and the milky way was visible every night from the hot tub. The house is spacious, modern, and everything we could have needed was there. We enjoyed cooking fresh seafood on the grill and shopped at the local grocery store just a 5 minute drive from the house. I can't recommend this place enough!!! It was truly magnificent and very affordable.
