Photos and Description of the Colosseum area vacation apartment rental
Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Bunk Area, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3)

A charming apartment, made especially cozy by a recent remodeling. It is located on the first floor (without elevator) of an ancient building which dates back to the sixteenth century.

A very noiseless place right in the historical center of the city, in Urbana street, a road which two thousand years ago was named “Vicus Patricius” and throbbed with life during the Roman imperial government.

The “Suburra” – the previous name of this district located on the sloped of the Quirinale and Viminale hills spreading as far as Esquilino hill – was a suburban neighborhood of ill-fame, but where also new freedmen and patricians built their houses, surrounded by taverns, brothels, prostitutes, thieves, traders and some respectable people. The heart of Rome was like this. During the Emperor Vespasian time the Colosseum was built down the eastern part of the city, while on the south you could admire the Arch of Tito and the temple of Nettuno on the west.

Today the district of Suburra is called “Rione Monti”, the first neighborhood of the city, one of the few places where you can have a real, genuine breathing area.

The apartment consists of one room (even if it's divided in two parts by a corridor) perfectly acclimatized (air conditioned) and endowed with an elegant cooking alcove finished in travertine marble (where guests will find everything necessary for cooking a swell as a variety of breakfast beverages).

The sleeping area has got a chestnut boiserie which has been made out of fifteenth century beam floors of the building that today homes the Teatro dei Satiri, previously cavea of the Teatro di Pompeo (the place where the Emperor Julius Caesar was murdered). Beside the double-bed there is an intermediate wooden floor fitted with a single bed.

The loft is made precious by the restoration work of the ancient sixteenth century beam ceiling, by the sight of bricks from the original construction, by a mosaic whose “unicum” you can see in the Museo Nazionale Romano di Palazzo Massimo alle Terme and by a modern liquid crystal television.

The bathroom, also finished in travertine marble, contains a shower and is well stocked with everything that guests need (towels, soap, shampoo).

Location

The location of the apartment is exceptional as you are actually close to all the classic sights of Rome. The Colosseum and Fori Imperiali are no more than an easy five minute walk. Moreover the “Cavour” underground (subway) station is approximately one hundred meters far from the apartment.

In the immediate vicinity it’s worth a moment to linger along the narrow lanes of the Suburra, the church of Santa Pudenziana and its Byzantine mosaic (this is the oldest church in Rome, it dates back to the third century A.D.; the tradition says that Saint Peter might have found shelter there during the Christian persecution), the church of Santa Prassede and obviously the magnificent and imposing Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore.

The perfect starting point to best enjoy the best of the eternal city!

Comfort and Convenience

We stayed 3 nights here and loved our stay. The apartment is easy to get to from the Termini and located on a quiet street with lots of good, small restaurants and residences. It felt away from the fray, a good place to rest after traveling or spending a day seeing the sights in the city. It felt just the right size for two of us, though there was one more bed for a third person. We had looked at places at the other end of the main tourist area, but were so glad we were here. It was quieter, more convenient to everything and felt like an authentic neighborhood. Dealing with Alessandro was a pleasure from start to finish, as other reviews have said, he was a perfect host and offered much helpful advice about seeing the city. The apartment had everything we needed and more, clean and lovely.

My husband and I stayed in this flat for three nights. It was WONDERFUL! Super close to lots of restaurants and attractions. Very quiet. REALLY enjoyed the air conditioning. The bed was very comfortable. Ale was a very gracious host. We changed our check in time about 5 times, but he remained very patient :-) Thanks again!

Apartment was very adequate for our needs. Nice neighbour feel, close to Termini but quiet and away from traffic noise. Good restaurants and shops nearby. We walked everywhere. Would stay here again.

What a GREAT PLACE to be in Rome!

If you are worried about not being treated like royalty by Alessandro, the owner of this apartment, worry no more! He was helpful beyond expectation! He even arranged for our lost suitcase to be delivered to his office on a national holiday and then he personally delivered it to us in our apartment. The comments in the guest book in the apartment confirm what we experienced.

Now, about the apartment. It is amazingly well located. Just down the road from the Forum and Colosseum, steps away from great dining and 10 minutes to the Termini Station where you can take a bus or train to the airport. Besides the location in a narrow, very Rome street, the apartment is quaint and fun. The bed is comfy, the kitchen has everything you need to cook if you really want to. Otherwise you can find great places to eat everywhere. The bathroom works fine and the apartment door has the meanest looking deadbolt lock I have ever seen. No security problems here! The laundromat just around the corner and across the street was helpful and prompt. This was our first trip to Rome and we had a fabulous time. A great home base.

Next time I'm in Rome, I won't hesitate to stay at Alessandro's apartment. Everything is precisely as described. Great location. Very comfortable, cool and quite apartment. It is a small apartment and the shower is particularly tight, but it suffices. Very clean.

The owner, Alessandro, welcomed us at 9pm and was very helpful. He provided great dining recommendations and some general Rome advice.

I will be back!
