This delightful mountain retreat, located on 19.3 acres in Leather wood Mountains (a gated equestrian development-zip code is Ferguson, but is actually about 10 miles away), is a perfect place for a romantic getaway or a special family gathering. Our home is very spacious and beautifully decorated with Bob Timberlake and Charleston Forge furniture mixed with antiques and oriental rugs. Every room has a view of Grandfather mountain and the view is a 180' view of the Blue Ridge mountains.
Each of the three bedrooms has its own private bath (two of the baths have jetted tubs-the master bath has a separate shower, also). Two of the bedrooms (including the King Master suite and a Queen-size bedroom) and the loft with a Queen-size sofa bed are on the second floor. The Master suite even has a gas fireplace. There is a third bedroom on the first floor with a Queen-size bed.
The Great room has a 24-foot Tennessee field stone wood-burning fireplace and triple windows and doors to take advantage of the view. The dining room has seating for 8 and a bar with seating for 4. The kitchen with beautiful granite countertops is equipped for the gourmet cook with double ovens, a gas cook-top, a side by side refrigerator with ice and water dispensers, Kitchen Aid stand mixer, coffee grinder, and many other amenities too numerous to mention. Outside there is a screened porch with a country swing and a dining table with seating for four and a 12X48 deck with a 20X20 step-down deck with a six-person Jacuzzi overlooking the mountains.
My wife, three kids and two dogs had a wonderful time. This cabin is great for any family looking for a true getaway. Leathwood is a seculded mountain vacation community between Wilksboro and Boone. The Cabin has beautiful unblocked views of the NC mountains. Walks through the Leatherwood community provide additional unique views.
The cabin is extremely well taken care of. Large well appointed kitchen with everything needed to cook large family meals with plenty of indoor/outdoor seating. TV, wifi, hottub etc all in perfect condition. Relax in the hottub with clear view of mountains.
You won't be disappointed. Just make sure to stock up on groceries before you get there. Long trip back to town.
We really enjoyed this cabin. It was well stocked with everything you could possibly need especially the kitchen. We cooked every evening in the cabin. The horseback riding and hiking in the community was a bonus that we took advantage of. The only thing I would recommend is adding some baby gates. We brought our pets with us and being in a different house I wanted to keep my eye on them. It would have been nice to be able to gate them downstairs or wherever. With that being the only thing we found missing we cannot wait to come back again!
Grandview Lodge lives up to its name in every way! With spectacular views in every direction decks to relax on and a screened in porch, you will be in awe. Enjoy a relaxing soak in the outdoor hot tub overlooking a beautiful sunset with complete privacy, as there are woods surrounding the beautiful cabin and no neighbors to share the view. This cabin is outfitted with every comfort, from it's state of the art kitchen, with the best in appliances and cookware to special personal touches, such as providing you with everything you could need during your trip. Three beautiful bedrooms with their own private bathrooms, all overlook the mountains. The den is simply beautiful with vaulted ceilings, stone fireplace, hardwood floors, plentiful and comfortable furniture and a huge flat screen TV outfitted with dish network and movie channels. The master bedroom is wonderful with a gas fireplace, king size bed and flat screen TV, private bath with garden tub and walk in closet complete this suite. We have been here six times now and have never been disappointed. Although there are other cabins at Leatherwood Mountain, we will never leave Grandview Lodge. It truly has become our home away from home. Catherine and Roland.
I cannot say enough about this home. It exceeded all of our expectations! My wife and I stayed for a week, along with our adult daughter, our son and daughter-in-law, and our Yellow Lab. The home was furnished with everything we could possibly need, and everything from appliances to kitchen accessories was high-end. We found everything as described in the publicity for the home, even exceeding the descriptions in most cases.
Each bedroom had its own bathroom, which was important to us. The back deck overlooking Grandfather Mountain was always occupied and the outdoor spa on the deck was a great way to relax at the end of the day. The common rooms are large enough for everyone to be together comfortably, yet there are also a number of places throughout the home for persons to have their own space. That was important for five adults spending the week together.
We took advantage of horseback riding in the subdivision. Our son fished both in the subdivision ponds and across the highway in the creek. We drove into Blowing Rock and Boone a couple of days, which was a long drive (45 minutes) but worth the effort. We also hooked up with the Blue Ridge Parkway in Blowing Rock, which took us to hiking at Linville Falls, shopping at the Moses Cone Craft Center, and fishing/canoing at Julian Price Lake. We especially enjoyed the numerous roadside fruit and vegetable stands just south of Blowing Rock. All sorts of eating and entertainment options were available in Blowing Rock and Boone. I would suggest being stocked up on groceries and necessary supplies before arriving at the house. There are no stores "just around the corner."
The owners were extremely attentive to us, both beforehand and during the week . . . without being intrusive. They seemed genuinely glad to share their home with us. If we are in the North Carolina High Country again, we would gladly stay here. We highly recommend it!
I reserved this house for the Merlefest Music Festival weekend, 2011. The house is fabulous and the only reason that I rate it four, instead of five, stars is to emphasize that I suspect that most interested parties may want to stay at a place that "is closer to things."
However, if you're looking to really "Get Away" then this is a 5-star spot because the level of isolation and beauty is tremendous.
The owner's notes mention "The kitchen with beautiful granite countertops is equipped for the gourmet cook with double ovens, a gas cooktop, a side by side refrigerator with ice and water dispensers, Kitchenaid stand mixer, coffee grinder, and many other amenities too numerous to mention. "
And there is no exaggeration here. I typically have a "kitchen set" of utensils that I bring to rental homes because you never really know what you'll find in their kitchens but most folks would find this kitchen and its equipment and its utensils to be an upgrade of their own.
And this is a good thing because my recommendation would be to do your shopping and bring your food with you. And then camp out at this superb house and fix whatever meals and desserts and mixed drinks you can imagine.
I'll make no comments about the house and its furnishings other than to say that the owner's notes are no exaggeration, not in the least. Beds, mattresses, furniture, heck even the outdoor furniture is all top-notch.
Easy parking for multiple cars; the house's "nearest neighbor home" might be 500 yards or it might be a half mile. Regardless, you'll not see or hear the neighbors.
We had no need to run/use the air conditioning because of the dates of our stay; same thing for the gas and the regular fireplace.
The home is inside of a large vacation property set, with equestrian resources available. Forested mountainous terrain. And these resources include an extensive set of multi-mile trails running over/around and through the property. We used several of these trails right out of our backyard but you can access them all within a 5-6 minute drive. Or hire the horses.
So if slow-miles-per-hour access roads and "being far away from groceries, movie theatres, coffee shops, etc, etc" don't bother you, then you'll be more than impressed.
Grandview Lodge at Leatherwood Mountains is in a gated development that is 18 miles from Boone (30 minute drive) and about 10 minutes farther to Blowing Rock. The cabin is also within 30 minutes of the Kerr Reservoir outside of Wilkesboro (water skiing and other mountain lake activities are available). Many historic sites in Ashe County and also the Tom Dula (aka Dooley) history as well as Daniel Boone are all in the vicinity.
Other Activities: Shopping, Boating, Snowmobiling, Snowboarding, Rock Climbing, Kayaking, Canoeing, Boarding Stables and Trails
