This is the place to be on the shores of Lake Erie! We have a cozy 2 bedroom, 1 bath home that sleeps 4 to 6, and has central air conditioning with a full size bed in each of the 2 bedrooms; and a queen size sleeper sofa in the living room. There is an attached one bedroom unit that is available for an additional charge, or can be rented seperately. Our home is very comfortable with a fantastic yard right on Lake Erie. The home is on a hill overlooking the lake, but there is no beach. There are several nice beaches close by. You will enjoy sitting in the large yard, relaxing, playing games, barbecuing & viewing the sunsets in the evening. There's a fire pit available and we also have bicycles. Our home would be ideal for a family gathering or nice getaway.
We are in a very convenient location on the shores of Lake Erie. We are 40 minutes from Cleveland airport, 45 minutes from downtown and 1 hour from the Cleveland Clinic. Cedar Point is 25 minutes away!
My sister Karen and I would like to say thank's for our vacation at your cottage last week.
It was a perfect location for the various activities we planned.
(Rock and roll and Pro football halls of fame. White sox/Indians game.Put-in-bay boat trip, etc.)
Plus the relaxing atmosphere of the lakefront made it a great week.
Thanks again to John and yourself.Hope to see you again someday.
Once a year my sisters and I try to get together across the states and spend a week enjoying each other's company. This year was especially hard since we had just lost our oldest sister in May. John and Ellen's little cottage proved to be the perfect choice. We rented the 2 bedroom side of the cottage.
The unobstructed view of the lake was about 75 feet across the lawn, and could be seen from the living room. (There is no way down to the water) There were several chairs, a picnic table, swing, and hammock to enjoy on the lawn. The huge trees and squirrels were an added treat. The cottage was clean and neat. The little grocery store across the street was handy since we needed a few items. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful, but not interfering. We hope to go back next year if everyone's health allows it. Thanks John and Ellen for a peaceful week.

Very clean, great view, quiet. We would stay here again and recommend to others. The listing and photos represented the place well. The owners were helpful and cordial.
Since our son was graduating from Oberlin and the ceremonies would last about a week, we needed a nice cost effective place for 4 family members. Vermilion is a quiet lakeside resort community with a tradition of hosting lakeside vacationers. Vermilion is only about a 15-20 minute drive to Oberlin. Arriving from San Francisco at 1AM the first day and driving along unfamiliar roads, (good for the Garmin update!) we were relieved to see that the front area was well lighted and that parking was convenient. However, we could not see the back yard due to the darkness. The apartment is cabin-like, but large, clean, very well maintained, and all amenities fully functional. The following morning treated us to a fantastic view of an expansive back yard and then an expansive view of a beautiful Lake Erie. Birds singing in the trees, 2 geese and squirrels dancing in the back yard, very idyllic and calming. John and Ellen were great. They are welcoming and very accommodating. We mentioned we would be barbecuing for a few of my son's friends and Oberlin staff, so John set up a brand new large gas grill the next day with two portable picnic tables. Ellen even made a wonderful salad and drove my wife to the nearby fresh and locally grown "Farmer's Market" for additional last minute supplies, since at the time my oldest son was in Oberlin picking up our guests. (There is a Costco is located in relatively near-by Avon, btw.) Later that evening after everyone left, we collapsed in a heap from exhaustion, but took the time, wisely enough to take two chairs out to the edge of the yard to watch the sunset over the horizon. The weather was great and the placid lapping sounds of the water, the sheer expanse of Lake Erie, and the gorgeous setting sun totally relaxed us. Talk about a meditative state! Another thing Ellen did for us was to adjust the wireless router. We went from spotty reception to 4-5 bars, so it was nice having full wi-fi connectivity. The TV and DVD player were great with many channels to watch, but who needs TV when you have a sunset like that almost everyday? Plenty of well lighted reading areas in the living room. You can also read in total relaxation in the back yard. The kitchen area was very functional, dishes, glasses, cutlery provided. Storage was very good. We've been all over the map on vacation, but our Vermilion stay with Ellen and John was definitely one of our most restful and peaceful stays ever. Will definitely recommend to friends.
This house was perfect for our family! The location was close to family we were visiting and the lake views were beautiful! The owners were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. We look forward to coming back next year!
My family, including our 2 small daughter (21 mos and 3.5 yrs), stayed in the 2-BR unit and had such a nice time. The house is well taken care of and the location on the water is just perfect. It is a quiet, family-oriented community. We enjoyed many hours playing in the large yard, eating on the picnic table, making a fire, grilling, and enjoying the views, which have to be some of the best in the area -- sunsets, sunrises, star-gazing, and watching the boats on the water during the day. Just perfect. The owners, who live next door, are the kindest people and very helpful with whatever we needed. Vermilion is a charming small town with the main downtown only about a mile away. Beach and playground is walking distance and there is a small country store right across the street. We hope to make it back to visit Vermilion and stay in this lovely home!
Our family just got back from a fun filled week at the lake. This residence was truly the BEST I've stayed at. It was very clean and very well maintained. The pictures on this listing are accurate but does not do it justice. We would highly recommend this for anyone wanting a relaxing vacation by the lake. There is also plenty of activities as well as you are only 30 mins away from Cedar Point.
Vermilion, Ohio, USA (40 Minutes from Cleveland Airport or Downtown) Vermilion is a quaint little town situated right on Lake Erie w/its own beach & boardwalk. We’re 2 miles from the Public Boat Ramp in Vermilion. The downtown area has several restaurants & ice cream parlors & a very popular French restaurant. The Great Lakes Maritime Museum is also located on the North end of town. There’s usually something going on downtown during the summer months; such as Music in the Park, antique car shows, in June we have a Festival of the Fish & of course we cannot forget the internationally famous Woolly Bear Festival in the fall. Who would think a little orange & black worm could have its own festival. We are 45 minutes from downtown Cleveland & 25 minutes from Cedar Point. Kalahari Water Park & Great Wolf Lodge are just as easily accessible. Catch a Ferry to the Lake Erie Islands, Put-in-Bay & Kelly's Island.
