Why The Owner chose Mount Lassen

We have been very fortunate to be able to live up in this peaceful part of Northern California in the small community of Viola (pop 97). We re discovered this place about 6 years ago after having come up here as children many many years ago. We bought this property in 2005 when it was just a piece of land covered with lots of brush & fallen trees. We worked on the project since 2006 and finally completed the house in the Spring of 2008. It is our pleasure to share this special place with our friends, family and guests. We are sure that you will love it, just as we do! Your Friends and Hosts From Viola.... Rebecca & Bob Moore

Amazing weekend at a true home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

Incredible place and even better owners!

We arrived late Friday night to find fresh baked bread from the hosts. This was one of many signs that they took extra care to make our stay enjoyable and feel like a home. The house itself is wonderful, secluded, and a great space for a small group/family. Can't wait to return! Highly recommend this place for all.

Wonderfully Relaxing Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Our first impression of the cabin was walking in the front door and having the smell of fresh baked bread greet us. It was as good as it smelled. There were six of us that recently stayed at the cabin and we all had such a wonderful time. We never felt crowded. There was plenty of room for all of us. The house lacked for nothing. It was exceptionally clean and stocked with everything you could ask for and more. It was January and chilly in the evenings and mornings and although there was no fireplace the heater kept us cozy and warm. The fleece sheets were a nice touch. They were very warm and we loved them.

We drove into Lassen Park which was only 10 minutes away. The location of the house to the park can't be beat. Burney Falls is only 45 minutes away. What a beautiful spot.

I cannot recommend this property highly enough. The owners were responsive and extremely easy to work with. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Incredibly beautiful and relaxing home, perfect for our family

  • 5 of 5

I'm sorry it has taken me several months to write this review! This home is absolutely stunning. The furnishings, interior design, decks, etc are so beautiful. There are plenty of places to settle in and relax with a book, a cup of morning coffee, or a nightcap. The kitchen is stunning and there was plenty of room for cooking and storage of groceries. There are a lot of games at the house and we laughed until we cried playing several of them one evening in the living room. We loved the stereo and CD selection and had music playing in the evenings.

Be aware that there is a house you drive by on the way in with signs posted against vacation home rentals. It stunned me when I first saw it, but I quickly forgot all about the grumpy neighbor when we arrived at the vacation home. Don't let the signs spoil your relaxing stay in this beautiful home. According to a note in the vacation home, the neighbor's complaints are about visitors who drive too fast on the gravel roads, kicking up dust that covers everything. Simply stick to the 5 mph speed limit and all is well.

The owners were attentive and responsive to any inquiries I had before and during our stay. There was a nice handbook available in the house, along with brochures and tour guides. We contributed several brochures when we left.

Our oldest daughter slept downstairs in the most secluded bedroom. She loved the solitude and peacefulness. Our younger daughter elected to sleep in the loft bedroom. I found the bed in the master bedroom to be very comfortable, but it was too soft for my husband's back (it was EXTREMELY soft). He slept our last night there in the 4th bedroom, where the bed was better for his back.

Don't forget to stock up on groceries at the IGA in town before you arrive at the house. The house is well stocked in spices and basic cooking needs. What a wonderful surprise!

And lastly, Lassen is fabulous. We made a special trip to go out of our way to see Lassen, and it was breathtaking.

Beautiful and relaxing...

  • 5 of 5

Our stay could not have been better! Where to start? From the moment we pulled in the driveway, my daughters, ages 12 and 15, were completely enchanted with this lovely home. They were especially enamored with the backyard creek, the upstairs bedroom and sitting area, and the downstairs spa tub. And my husband and I were delighted to see that the kitchen was very well-stocked. Cheese grater and garlic press? Potato peeler and wine opener? Pot holders and dishtowels? It was all there, and more!

Our stay was scheduled over the Thanksgiving weekend, and that was the weekend that California received the rain we've all been praying for, so we spent a lot of time indoors. No worries, though -- the home had many DVDs and board games to entertain us. We also popped into nearby Redding to watch a movie, and the next day, my younger daughter and I had a fabulous adventure in the rain when we took our dog for a walk in the nearby woods. We had no fear about getting soaked through as our home came equipped with washer, dryer, and laundry detergent!

Our "bonus" experience came when we visited Lassen National Park, and it started snowing on us! A word to the wise: Bring snow chains JUST IN CASE!

Perfect home away from home.

This was the cleanest cabin we have ever stayed in. Attention to every detail was evident. Every item had a place and every item was in its place. Great, and comfortable cabin.

Superb Lassen Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My three travel-mates were in awe of the great place I found just minutes from the entrance to Lassen National Park. This place can comfortably accommodate 4 couples, and it was luxurious for just two couples. The smell of freshly baked bread was a welcome.

We never actually met our hosts, but they were welcoming and accommodating - keeping me well advised via email and answering every question in a timely and complete manner. Check in and check out were seamless.

The house is modern and equipped with more amenities than any vacation home we've rented. We cooked full dinners and didn't want for any kitchen tool. There is an IGA grocery about 10 miles down the road, but you may want to stock up at a major supermarket in Red Bluff or Redding on your way in. There is no dining to speak of within 20 minutes of the house, so enjoy spending time in the open kitchen making fabulous meals.

We spent mornings and evenings on the spacious decks in the back. The sound of the nearby stream was comforting and private.

You can't stay much closer to Lassen National Park's main road, with additional access to the northeast entrance.
