Oak Island is a laid back family friendly destination consisting of 10 miles of south facing beaches. Because of its unique position one can view beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Majestic windswept live oak trees grace the interior. The island is also home to its very own lighthouse. There are many activities available right on the island, such as kayak and walking trails, scenic marsh walkway w/bird watching platform, skate park, playground, golf, mini golf, recreation center w/tennis courts, biking, and fishing! May - Aug. is turtle nesting season. The historic town of Southport where one can stroll the streets, browse antique shops and boutiques, or take a rest at the waterfront park is only 10 miles away. Southport is a truly unique town reminiscent of days gone by. Here you can also catch the ferry to Fort Fisher, the NC Aquarium, and Bald Head Island. Wilmington and all it has to offer is only 35 miles to the north. Myrtle Beach is 70 miles to the south.
