'LIVE OAKS' - POOL SIDE CONDO AT OCEAN DUNES WITH ELEVATOR AND WI-FI

Kure Beach Condo Rental Photos and Description

Condo, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Ocean Dunes is a condo complex with the feel of a private club. Vacationers here have access to a large private indoor recreation center w/ pool, sauna, exercise room and gathering area as well as extensive outdoor facilities such as tennis and basketball courts, three outdoor pools and even shuffleboard. The Ocean Dunes resort complex takes great pride in maintaining its appearance and its amenities as well as its half mile of private beach.

Our condo is located directly across the street from the ocean front units on what is known as the garden side. Our part of the complex features twisted live oak trees that shade our balconies in the rear while our condo fronts onto a nicely landscaped in-ground pool with a gazebo and grills for picnicking as well as comfortable deck chairs placed around the fenced-in pool. Directly across the street is our private access to the beach (with shower) which we reach by following the path through our oaks. As you enter the Ocean Dunes area you leave the hustle and bustle of the public beach behind. Ocean Dunes is located at the tip of Pleasure Island, and behind our complex and to our south side is the Fort Fisher State Park with extensive grounds of its own, its own beach area and a well-thought out museum. Beyond that is the North Carolina Aquarium and beyond that is the end of the island where you can catch the ferry for Southport, a fun 30 minute ocean ride to this old historic city with its farmer’s and artisan market on Wednesdays, antique and craft shops as well as several restaurants on their dock. When you leave our complex and head north instead, you find the restaurants and board walk for our island and its many evening activities including outdoor concerts and movies.

We love to just sit out on our deck and enjoy the peace of our complex or put on our walking shoes and walk along the beach or the half mile to the state park with its own trails and beach. When we are looking for a change of pace, we leave the island and either go to Southport and or take the River Road to Wilmington (about a 20 minute drive through the country) where we shop, eat at one of our favorite restaurants, take in a play, or visit one of the museums there such as the USS North Carolina. Two major malls are also located off the island at about 10 miles from our condo in the other direction, and the route to them is lined with a wide variety of restaurants and specialty shops.

Our sunny 3 bedroom corner condo is located in a newly constructed building with complete handicap accessibility including an elevator. We hope to retire here and have furnished it as our second home. We welcome guests who will tread lightly and treat our property as if it were their own. Even though we are located beyond the hustle and bustle of any busy downtown area, we are just a short drive away from fine restaurants, coffee shops, supermarkets, Wal-Mart and Lowe’s! Fish lovers will find both excellent fresh fish right off the boat as well as the opportunity to venture out from the Carolina Beach dock into the Atlantic Ocean for an angling adventure.

Hi John,

Thank you so much for allowing us to enjoy your condo. It was perfect for our family!!! Thankfully the weather cooperated for my kids to be able to enjoy the beach!! If we vacation in the area again we would definitely look to rent from you again! Thanks again and I will watch for the deposit refund.

John and I are retired teachers from Ohio. Our family always shared a large beach house with John's extended family every summer that our children were growng up, and when we began to think about retiring, we knew this was the place for us! We purchased our Ocean Dunes condo in 2006 and grab every chance we get to head down here. We totally agree with the James Taylor sentiment: 'In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina'

John Virgint purchased this condo in 2006

We chose our condo because of its location. Ocean Dunes stands out as a quiet, upscale and family friendly place with a larger number of amenities than any of the other area complexes.

It is also much newer, as our building was just rebuilt in 2008. It is well-maintained and its extensive indoor facilities make it a good year-round place for people like us who spend time here during the winter school vacations as well as during the summer. We have very young nieces who live near-by, and they love to come swimming in the pool out front or indoors when it's off-sseason. When we want a change of pace from the beach, we can go to downtown Wilmington and eat at one of the restaurants on its boardwalk or shop or go to a nightspot. Alternatively, we can take the ferry to Soutport. And if you like history, there is a lot to explore. Wilmington was the primary port of the Confederacy during the Civil War, the boyhood home of President Woodrow Wilson and the birthplace of famous sons newsman David Brinkley and athlete Michael Jordan. Our friends always want to go through the World War 11 battleship the USS North Carolina or take a river cruise up and down the Cape Fear River from downtown Wilmington. When our friends come to visit us, they run out of time before we run out of adventures for them!

Ocean Dunes is a condo complex but it is run like a private club. Our visitors have access to a large private indoor recreation center w/ pool, sauna, exercise room and gathering area as well as to extensive outdoor facilities such as tennis and basketball courts, three outdoor pools and even shuffleboard. The Ocean Dunes resort complex takes great pride in maintaining its appearance and its amenities as well as its half mile of private beach. And we are steps away from a state national park, which gives us a quiet, natural atmosphere free from the traffic and noise of many other area locations.

The condo was clean and very cute with lots of room, the porch was the best it was like sitting in the trees no noise, then right across the road you were at the beach, inside and outside pools were clean. We saw someone everyday cleaning the grounds. Owner made sure he keep up with any concerns we had. We all agreed we would be back to stay and eat those hot melt in your mouth donuts right down the road. See You Soon.

WONDERFUL PLACE. PERFECT FOR FAMILY. QUIET BUT SO BEAUTIFUL.

  • 5 of 5
This home was the nicest I have stayed in so far. It was beautiful, clean, and had everything we needed. It was a very quick walk to the ocean, and all of the pools made it convenient to have something else to do when we did not want to be at the beach. The indoor pool was so nice, which is where we spent a great deal of time because of the kids. It is close to everything, but quiet enough not to bother everyone. We will certainly look to stay here again. (The owners are so pleasant to work with as well! Great communication.)

We stayed at this wonderful condo for the week of August 12th, 2012 and really enjoyed our time. The Condo was in terrific condition and it was such a short walk to the beach. We also spent a lot of time reading on the deck and enjoying Kure Beach Activities. Thank you for letting us use your home

ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL

  • 5 of 5
My family and I are long time fans of Ocean Dunes. Both my wife and I have been vacationing here since we were kids and we look forward to coming back time and time again. Every year we have stayed ocean front with extended family but as our family has grown we found the need to expand into a 2nd unit. Live Oaks fit our needs perfectly! We are very picky when it comes to cleanliness and it's obvious when you open the front door that this owner really takes pride in their unit. Live Oaks is well maintained and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this unit to others. The unit is the first one on the right when you pull into the entrance with convenient parking and close proximity to the stairs and elevator. There is ample seating and plenty of room to just stretch out and enjoy your stay.

If you have small kids, this is a great location. It's not ocean front but it's a quick walk across the street. This location is close to one outdoor pool and the indoor facilities are top notch. Even during the summer it's rare that there are more than 2 families using the indoor pool at the same time. During our quick weekend we had the whole facility to ourselves and my kids were just beside themselves! We also enjoyed walking through Fort Fisher (which is literally next door), walking along the Battery and visiting the NC Aquarium. Great weekend!

We've already started discussing our plans for the summer and can't wait to get back to Live Oaks! Thanks to John and Teresa for their hospitality!

THANKS FOR A GREAT VACATION!

  • 5 of 5
Thanks so much!! We had a wonderful week! The condo was everything that we expected and we had no problems. Everything was in very good condition and was very clean. The decor was lovely and everything was very comfortable (beds, living room furniture). There was more than enough seating. We were impressed with how well the kitchen was stocked--I have never seen a vacation condo with a crock pot and a food processor! Nice touches. We used the pool everyday, and my husband used the tennis courts and our kids used the playground. The pool, tennis courts, playground and recreation complex were all in very good shape and we enjoyed the easy access to everything. The beach is right across the street, an easy walk even for our kids (ages 3 and 4). The towns of Kure Beach and Carolina Beach were very family friendly! We ventured into Wilmington and enjoyed dinner at Casey's BBQ Buffet (very neat local place) and Flaming Amy's Burrito Barn another night and let our kids run off their energy at Hugh McRae Park. This complex is at a great location on the island, almost the last development so the beach is very uncrowded and is in a good location if you like to walk or run as the road is wide and safe. We would definitely rent from these owners again. We were extremely pleased with how easily VRBO works. John is a true professional and everything was up to par. Great communication. Check-in was easy and we appreciated the warm welcome. Photos and information on the VRBO website are completely accurate. Can't thank you enough for a great family vacation!!

AUGUST 2010 VACATION

  • 5 of 5
John,
Thank you for sharing your home with our family; it was the perfect get-away. The condo itself was very clean and tastefully decorated. (We especially liked having the elevator so close to the unit for easy load and unloading) The pool was yards away from the building and was never crowded! The walk to the ocean was minimal - not much more than you would have if parking at public access sites.
This is the perfect beach to do a lot of peaceful relaxing and yet have the amenities of close by towns just a few minute drive away. We enjoyed this so much and hope to stay with you again!
