A custom 1700 sq. ft. 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath chalet style home located 2.5 miles on Homer’s famous East Hill road, known for its fantastic views of Homer. The house is situated on 3.5 private acres, surrounded by wildflowers and local birch, alder and spruce.

This vacation rental sits along scenic bench land overlooking Homer, considered by many as one of the nicest spots in the Homer area. The location is superb with views of Kachemak Bay, mountains, glaciers and just minutes away, the world famous Homer Spit. Located about 700 feet above sea level, this three and one half acre, south facing location catches all the warmth and long glorious sun our endless summer days offer. While enjoying your stay at Overlook Guest House, you will often see different wildlife species including moose, eagles, hawks, pheasant and an occasional black bear or coyote.

The friendly design is perfect for friends and family. A master bedroom and bath is located on the main floor with master walk-in closet and jetted tub for two. An efficient full kitchen has all the amenities including microwave, dishwasher and breakfast bar. The main floor also has a washer/dryer room with adjacent ½ bath. A dining area and living room with fireplace, appointed with comfortable leather furniture, makes this just the ticket for an active or relaxing vacation. A small deck is accessed from the living room with BBQ and chairs.

Upstairs are two full bedrooms, one with 3 twin beds (or 1 King and 1 twin) and the other is two twin beds (or 1 King) and additional full bath (shared).

About The Owner

Patrick and I (Dawn) have lived in the beautiful town of Homer for 25 years. We came up to work in our 20's and never left! Neither of us had ever lived by the ocean growing up but once we saw the beauty of Kachemak Bay, the glaciers and mountains; we were here to stay! The small town community with it's abundance of wildlife, green space and friendly people has been the perfect place to raise our children and start our own businesses. We are an outdoors family--our free time is spent fishing and camping in the summer and skating and skiing in the winter. This area truly has everything that we enjoy. We hope our guests can experience Homer and have the vacation of their dreams!

Why The Owner chose Homer

Large, private acreage on exclusive East Hill rarely comes on the market in Homer; so when this came around, we just had to buy it! The Overlook Guest House is aptly named as it "overlooks" Kachemak Bay and the Homer Spit with good views of Eldridge Passage and Yukon Island. The area here on the hill is really nice as it does not get windy and is very sunny. Its proximity to town is good, just a quick 5 minutes. Just wait till you see the views going down East Hill into Homer, really spectacular!

What makes this house unique

I so enjoy the wildflowers that grow in profusion around the house, wild roses thrive on the hillsides here. Often when we are here, there is moose in the yard or occasionally I will see the neighborhood porcupine waddling up from the nearby gulley. It is very peaceful and private; we really enjoy this house!

We loved the house and we loved Homer. So much to do and so beautiful. We brought our 3 kids and the house fit us perfectly. It was very clean and very comfortable. We loved the view! The beds were comfortable. The house was set up great for renters. Thanks!

My parents were visiting from Spokane, WA and anxious to visit Homer. We booked the Overlook house for five people. It was very comfortable, well stocked and the view was awesome. The description and photos on VRBO were accurate and helped me to make the decision to stay there. The home provided a great base camp for the activities we had planned for the week. The highlight of the trip was dinner at The Saltry in Halibut Cove. We would definitely recommend this property and hope to stay here again.

Best Place to Stay in Homer

My family had a wonderful time at the Overlook house. It was even better than the pictures. We had gracious hosts that provided a comfortable place to stay while in Homer. The view was breathtaking, especially as the sun descended slightly in the evenings. A momma moose and her baby were with us each day and even looked in the windows at us at one point! The house was impeccably clean and had all the amenities needed. We would come back and stay again in a heartbeat. I would recommend halibut fishing, hiking and walking Homer spit. If you have a large group, order the 28" pizza at Fat Olives- it was a hoot! What a special and memorable vacation. Thank you.

Great location and view.

I had a 3 day stay here and was very pleased. The location is close to the spit and downtown. Dawn and Pat were easy to communicate with and keep the house clean and comfortable. We spent most of our time fishing and wish we had more time to spend in the overlook house. Thanks to Dawn and Pat. Will try and rent on my next trip to Homer.

Great place to stay

Incredible view, great location! Great house to stay in in Homer. The only thing that could have made it better would be more comfortable furniture in the living room and a a few more items in the kitchen for those that like to cook (the restaurants in Homer were mediocre at best). Room darkening shades would also be a plus. That said, we loved the house and Homer was by far the best part of our Alaska vacation. I'd recommend this house to anyone staying in Homer.
